Are protests outside VA hospitals or defacing the Vietnam War Memorial examples of free speech? I think it's disgraceful what some left-wing radicals have done. They are protesting outside VA hospitals chanting insults at the brave soldiers inside that have sacrificed everything for the rights of these very protestors. Recently, the "Wall" was defaced by some other disrespectful members of society. Yet, there was never a story on the network news about any of this. Why do you think that is?
Why are VA Hospitals exempt from State No Smoking Laws? Noticed people outside VA Health Services smoking. This does not happen outside Private Hospitals within a certain distance? Wonder what exemption Federal Hospital has? Please do not say Federal laws over ride State laws as this is not an acceptable answer.

How does a person deal with medical malpractice involving the VA hospitals? It seems that the VA is such a powerful institution that few lawyers have the resources or will to deal with their arrogance. This seems especially the case during times of foreign policy crisis such as now. But, I have a serious need to resolve the prolonged problems that I am having with these people.
Do the veterans at VA hospitals like visitors? I belong to Soldier's angels and was going to visit a VA hospital where I live and take them in cookies. Would they allow them to have them and would the soldiers appreciate visits from a stranger? what will be the difference between VA Hospital and Universal Health Care? I know there are some good VA Hospitals , but there are some very bad ones too, and they only take care of veterans, I can't imagine how it would be with everyone on that same type system. Now in the VA you get a pair of eyeglasses every two years, regardless if you break them, lose them , whatever, you have to wait 2 years to get another pair, most of the time it's 30 days before you can get an appointment, (unless going thru the E.R.) and you don't get to choose your doctor

She and i go to school in Charlotte. We want to move to greensboro so we can go to school and she can get her rehab done and dansville is the closest city of any decent size. He was only 52 and he was in the hospital for a problem with his foot. It was so unexpected. He was walking around and talking an hour before. He was not old and there was nothing even near life threatening wrong with him. He was no longer in the military.. he was discharged in the 70's.

Would a WWII Vet who is NOT disabled Get Much Benefit from going to a VA Hospital? Assume the vet was not wounded in the military and that he only has Medicare insurance. Assume his income is about $40,000 per year --- so he's not in poverty. I have an elderly uncle who travels far to go to a VA hospital for things like glasses, prescriptions, and long term ailments like diabetes. I have a feeling he has an expectation that everything will be free to him. But, I don't think it is. And, he seems frustrated when he doesn't get things (like medicines) free.
For Veteran, if you can choose, will you pick VA hospitical or your choice of local hospital? I think the VA hospital is really bad for veteran, i my self is veteran, so long wait time for appointment, is like 3-4 weeks and if you miss or reschedule appointment wait like a month. Not too mention the quality of doctor and staff isn't good mainly cause they hired too many has little experience in the field, and since the doctor don't earn any extra money by patient like outside does, it simply not the same, everyime i need to do some dental work, is always different person.

Why is it that VA hospitals get such a bad rap? One and a half weeks ago, my husband had a stroke. We have no insurance, but my husband is a Vet, so I took him to the VA. I was very impressed with the care that he got. These people were absolutly great, and the level of care he got was much better than any that is available in private hospitals. I have a great deal of experience in this, having worked in hospitals for a large portion of my life. I havn't seen such thorough care of a stroke victim since the 70's, before DRG's, which are the allowable days of hospitalization for any given illness, without regard for the patient. Patients really don't matter much in private hospitals any more, and he did at the VA. I was impressed. I think that the VA is a tremendous gift, and the people who work there are wonderful.

I want to treat my patients with the utmost respect when I take care of them. - How much research should I do regarding the differences between the main branches of the armed services, including rank, etc. - Is there anything that I can do to show the vets and their family the utmost respect by acknowledging their service? My father was in the Army and my brother is going to join after he completes law school in a year. I want to seem knowledgeable and respectful to the vets and their families. This has been on the news, it was a nurse that gave diseases to patients purposely in VA & Tex, Veteran hospitals and he has been arrested and an ongoing investigation is now happening at this time! The VA plans to notify Veterans, he has infected with deadly viruses! The nurse gave patients at those facilities where he worked diseases through injections, he prepared with diseases purposely put into the shots! Hundreds are at risk, if not thousands...the VA is upset and trying to do damage control! This is not a farce, it has been on the news and I am sure if you call and ask the VA, they will admit this happened, but only in Texas and Virginia VA hospitals where this nurse has worked over the years! He is in custody and has admitted his actions!

My father in law will be coming up to see my husband (his son) come home from Iraq ...he will be staying with us for several weeks, my question is he is on Coumadin blood thinner and needs his blood check weekley, he goes to the VA hospital in Florida where he lives...would he be able to go to the VA hospital here and have them draw the blood...we are stationed in New York state.
