I do not understand how universities hospitals are known to be the best? I was at university of Chicago today. There where 30 people waiting ahead of me. So, the wait time was more than 8 hours, so I left. Most of the staff was rude and talked ghetto. The building looked like a piece of shit and not in the best neighborhood. I like the hospitals in the subarbs better.
What is the maternity ward of University of Chicago Hospital like? I'm 31 weeks pregnant and found out that I will have to give birth at university of chicago due to complications. I have no clue what the birthing rooms are like there. I had planned to go to Good Shepard in Barrington, where they give you a special dinner, the rooms are beautiful, but I'm afraid U of C is not going to even come close. Please give me some perspective. in 2005, I spent 3 months in U of C, but I've never been to any maternity ward or nursery and I wanted calm and peaceful during this trying time. BTW yes there are some good hospitals other than UC but my little bean needs the best and my surgeon is there so I'm kinda stuck. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!
Will someone explain to me the procedure of a tracheostomy? My mom has a disposable tracheostomy, she's had in for about 3 months (no one told us it was only supposed to last for a month.) About 2 weeks ago she started having some problems with it, a little bit of bleeding and pain around the stoma. We went to the doctor and he looked at it and said it wasn't infected but it was ready to come out since it's been in there so long, the area is just irritated. Friday she is scheduled for it to be taken out and replaced with a smaller trach and one that isn't disposable. She's worried, as am I. Her doctor is also a resident; we go to Rush Medical Center in downtown Chicago (university hospital). It's a good hospital, and we've had some good doctors who care. But, the resident thing freaks me out and supposedly this is an office procedure. He said it would bleed most likely, but it's not a procedure to be alarmed about. Should we be worried? How extensive is the procedure? Is it normally an out-patient thing?
Would you agree that President Obama owes everything he and Michelle have to the Tax Payers ? Think about it Obama held a private sector job all of 5 days at a Baskin Robbins , worked briefly at a private law firm then became a publicly funded community organizer , state senator , US Senator and now President . His and Michelles College educations were largely publicly funded through scholarships and grants, Michelles job at Chicago University Hospital was funded after Obama funneled millions in pork to that Hospital too . ----------So shouldn't both of them at least say thanks ? Where would both of them be without us ?
What is Valerie Jarrets Connection to the Obama's? Jarrett got Michelle her first political job in Mayor Dailey's office, it was Jarrett that created Michelle's cushy Chicago University Hospital position when the Obama's were on the verge of bankruptcy. A position created after her then US Senator husband shoveled millions in pork to that same hospital. Jarret was also at one time the head of Federal Public housing for Chicago she and a consortium stood to gain millions of dollars if the Obama bid for the Olympics had been successful.
Which area in Chicago is the safest? I know every area has its good and bad. But which of these areas is the best and which is the worst: Loop, S. Loop, W. Loop, Lakeshore East, River North and Streeterville? Is Hyde Parke, where the University if Chicago Hospitals is located, safer? I really appreciate your time. MIE
great BSN programs and good hospitals to work in in Chicago? I am a senior in high school and am planning to attend a public university for two years accumulating all of my general requirements and then continuing on to get my BSN. I am considering attending a university in Chicago to get my BSN. What universities have good programs that are actually in Chicago and which hospitals are the best to work in?
Scale of 1 to 10: If Chicago gets Olympics, how corrupt will the money management be? I mean Chicago is the corrupt politics capital of the United States. http://news.yahoo.com/s/time/20090930/us_time/08599192688500;_ylt=AgnZ_3lGKTMPU8.l_l6LvvSMwfIE;_ylu=X3oDMTE2MmthNGMxBHBvcwMzBHNlYwN5bi1yLWItbGVmdARzbGsDZXYtb2JhbWEmIzM5 On Monday, Gibbs said that Obama is confident that the city of Chicago, which has been plagued by what prosecutors have described as a "pay to play" culture, can responsibly oversee the multi-billion dollar building project. "Not only is he, but [so] is the U.S. Olympic Committee that picked Chicago over [other] cities," Gibbs said. (See highs and lows from the 2008 Beijing Games.) Under the plan put forward by the Chicago 2016 committee, as described in a report by L.E.K. Consulting, the City Council would play a major role in making sure the billions of dollars for new Olympic facilities are spent appropriately. This may be an ambitious goal; since 1971, 30 members of the Chicago City council have been sent to jail, largely as a result of various corruption investigations. In a sign of the incestuous nature of Chicago politics, L.E.K - which concluded that taxpayers would be mostly protected under the Olympic plan - disclosed in its report that it is currently seeking a major city contract for concessions at O'Hare International Airport. (Any potential conflict was dismissed as irrelevant by the Civic Federation, which requested the report.) "Historically, the City Council hasn't had a great record of transparency," says Valerie Leonard, a community activist in Chicago's North Lawndale neighborhood, which would host cycling events if Chicago wins the bid. "I don't have confidence that's going to change." The larger Chicago 2016 advisory committee - which has hundreds of members, including celebrities like Michael Jordan - is also populated with a number of close friends and major supporters of Obama's presidential campaign. The personal friends include Eric Whitaker, who works at the University of Chicago Hospitals, Michelle Obama's former employer, and who has been a frequent visitor at the White House. The group also includes several members of two of Chicago's wealthiest and most supportive families, the Pritzkers, heirs to the Hyatt hotel empire, and the Crowns, heirs to the General Dynamics company. Both families were early supporters of Obama's political career. The City Council and the bid committee have so far rebuffed efforts to require the Olympic committee's work to be subject to freedom of information requests, according to the University of Chicago's Sanderson. Nor has there been any action on Sanderson's proposal to ban members of the advisory committee from seeking Olympic contracts. One bid committee member, Michael Scott, has served as a consultant for one of the developers vying to build the $1.2 billion Olympic village. Scott has also consulted on a condominium project near the proposed location of the village, though he has denied to the Chicago Tribune any conflict of interest or financial gain. sadcat............yes republicans are corrupt too.
Will Obama's health care plan include hospitals prohibiting patient dumping? FROM the OFFICE of THE INSPECTOR GENERAL: HERE is the WEBSITE ADDRESS SO YOU CAN SEE ITS LEGITIMATE: http://oig.hhs.gov/fraud/enforcement/administrative/cmp/cmpitemspd.html#5 May 08, 2006 The University of Chicago Hospitals (UCH), Illinois, agreed to pay $35,000 to resolve its liability for CMPs under the patient dumping statute. The OIG alleged that the hospital failed to accept an appropriate transfer of a 61-year-old male who presented to another emergency department with a complaint of flank pain. UCH had specialized capabilities not available at the transferring hospital and allegedly refused to accept transfer after learning that the patient did not have insurance. UCH then later agreed to accept transfer of the patient only if he provided proof of funds in a bank account. The patient was transferred to another hospital where he died. I sure HOPE that SENATOR OBAMA addresses this issue IF he becomes our President because he did NOTHING about it while Sen. Yes this IS the HOSPITAL that over-charged the uninsured and it is ALSO where Michelle Obama sits on the board her salary is now 317,000 a year. DOES CLINTON own the OFFICE of the INSPECTOR GENERAL? CAN'T you see that OTHER BARRACK SUPPORTERS GAVE GOOD RESPONSES, mud-slinging makes YOU look bad, this is NEWS, it is LEGITIMATE, and it is IMPORTANT including to the Obama Supporters. Rotor he was turned away because of NO insurance, not because of bed or equipment, look again he was a TRANSFER patient, they NEEDED specialized equipment that Chicago had! Keep in the context. I am glad I am getting mostly adult responses, this is NOT a bash against Obama, but it is about HOW much can you really BEAT the system?
How can one contribute to this goal? As an individual employee, how can one contribute to this goal: "A top priority of the University of Chicago Hospitals is to provide flexible and sensitive patient care."
Did anyone bother to tell Obama that his ad campaign is a catch 22? He says in his ad campaign that we have CEO's of companies making more in 10 minutes than some people make in a year, uhhhh....DID he discuss the FACT that his OWN wife is JUST such a CEO, who makes over 316,000 a year to sit on a board at Chicago University Hospital? Also, this hospital is getting SUED for charging the UNINSURED over 200 times more for the same services provided for people with insurance, is this part of Obamas health plan? the POINT is in the ad he talks about these unscrupulous CEO's did he forget Michelle is in that SAME catagory? I think it is a mistake on his part, he had many years to correct the practices of Chicago University Hospital he didnt so why now? I think he is saying what people want to hear, and I am beginning to think they all will LIE just to get elected! she only sits on the board 6 times a year, so she is not busting her bum working there
Did Obama promise $1 million in Tax payer money to UIC, if the university gave Michelle a HUGE raise? Why would Michelle Obama's salary jump from $121,910 in 2004 - to $$316,962 in 2005? In the list of earmarks Obama requested, $1 million was requested for the construction of a new hospital pavilion at the University Of Chicago. The request was put in in 2006. You know who works for the University of Chicago Hospital? Michelle Obama. She's vice president of community affairs. As Byron noted, "In 2006, the Chicago Tribune reported that Mrs. Obama’s compensation at the University of Chicago Hospital, where she is a vice president for community affairs, jumped from $121,910 in 2004, just before her husband was elected to the Senate, to $316,962 in 2005, just after he took office." http://campaignspot.nationalreview.com/post/?q=OGRiMWFhNWY4MTgzMjI3NjEzNGQwMWFiMTlhYmRhN2Y=
The University of Chicago Is Famous for many things-- special learning style? The University of Chicago is a prestigious school renowned for medicine, its hospitals, the atomic bomb (enrico fermi), and Nobel laureates, etc. etc. Someone also told me that UC has a unique teaching style-- I think it's used mainly in economics-- has anyone ever heard of this or can further explain exactly what it is-- thank you in advance
What will you expect from Michelle Obama as a First Lady? ? Laura Bush's pet projects included reading programs for children. Michelle Obama was an attorney who then went to work at the University of Chicago Hospitals, starting as director of Community Affairs, and then as VP of Community and External Affairs (according to Wikipedia). So what will her contribution to the Obama years be, do you think?
Can I get into the University of Chicago? I have just finished my junior year of high school and have a GPA of around 4.2. I'm am around the top 7% percent of my high school class. My ACT score is a 28 and my SAT is a 1850 (weak writing section). I recently have had a peer reviewed scientific paper accepted into a scientific journal in which I am a co-author. I also am volunteering at a local hospital once a week this summer. What chance do I have of getting into the University of Chicago?
What exactly has Obama accomplished, besides upholding the title of being part of the .......? corrupt Chicago political machine? I guess Obama can proudly bost of his talented money laundering scams with Tony Rezko, and his wife's corrupt schemes to take money from the tank of donations at the University of Chicago hospital, and their corrupt land deals (also courtesy of Rezko) which earned them a sweetheart deal for their $3 million house, which they only paid $300,000 for. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Rezko
Do I have a chance of getting into University of Chicago? I have a 4.2 GPA. My class rank is in the top 10% of my school. I am in volleyball, math club, and chess club. Help Me: Im 20 years old & my parents forcing me to go to church? As I sit here writing this no one in my family is talking to me nor have they spoken to me for the past three days. Here is my story:sorry it's long. I came home for spring break form college and didn't go to church with my family on Easter Sunday (I'm have doubts about organized religion) so this Sunday I didn't go neither so my parents sat my family down to have a "prayer meeting" they basically said that if I kept on this pattern I was destined for Hell. Then my dad proceeds to give my 18 year old sister 100 dollars for "good Christian" behavior because she goes but I don't. And told me I should be more like her. my sister just lost credit in her senior calculus class because she never goes and when she does she's late by 15 minutes her report card came in the mail on friday and she has yet to show it to them I found it in the trash she failed most of her classes (even gym) and she never had a job(doesn't want one unless it's Special & she can make her own hours) plus she lied to my parents about getting her acceptance letter from a college when the truth is she didn't even apply. (so basically there rewarding her for lying and bad grades) Me on the other hand I'm a biology major planing to go to medical school and I work and pay for everything for myself plus my grades are good and I play soccer (which helped me pay for most if my tuition)and I shadow Doctors on my free time at the university hospital in Chicago. My dad told me that even with all my education it means nothing if I don't go to church I still believe in God but don't want to be Baptist or follow their practices. I wanted to come home this summer and work plus take classes online through my college so I can start paying my student loan(5000) but I already brought my air plane tickets (I'm originally from new jersey but i go to college in chicago) I have no place else to stay but with my parents for the summer.(which they threaten to kick me out if I don't start going) how can I make them understand I'm not interested In church at the moment and that i am an adult -for God's sake im going to be some body's Doctor someday you would think they would trust me to make my own choices-I know if I go I'm going to be mad about it and it's going to show. I'm not good at hiding my feelings when I feel strongly about something. And my sister was loving ever second of this-please no rude comments Me on the other hand I Yes I know it's not going to KILL me to go to church but it's not soely based on religion my parents are using this as another way to have CONTROL over me (what to think wear who I can see how to behave) I'm 20 and have to be in the house by 9:30 even when I'm away at college they expect me in the dorms at that time.
Should the US government take our tax $ to give one company owned by foreigners, unfair advantage over another? The US government is giving Chrysler money to buy old cars for $4500 towards the sale of a new Chrysler. Chrysler already took many billions of $$, foreign interests have pretty much been given a huge chunk of the company and certain politicians supporters more of it. This will hurt Ford's business, a company who stayed afloat taking None of our money at a time when things have been very hard for them. Isn't this extremely twisted and wrong? Not to mention taking our money to just give away to individuals who got part of the company for nothing, but being political ally's, and others for supporting one business over another because of cheaper prices paid for by US to support favoritism for one company over another. How would you like it if you worked for Ford and your job was put in jeopardy over this? Or if Obama just decided he liked a competing company better than the one you work for and decided to give them a competitive advantage? It's not like this isn't already going on. The tarp money is being used to support friends of the administration and hard foes. To bail out banks Senators have interest in that don't qualify. To help some banks steal other banks assets and leave their stock holders with nothing. WHAT CAN COME OF ALL THIS? I'm telling you, if this doesn't stop we will all be working for the government. Directly or by large corporations owned or otherwise controlled by the government. Like everyone in the health care industry. Insurance industry, Auto industry, energy industry, Banking industry, home industry, farming industry, media, State and Local governments are being given money and controlled by the feds as well. If these people are not pushed back, the government will control your medical, your job, make it impossible for you to start or own a small business or any way of making a living not controlled by the federal government. They will control your thermostat, where your children go to school because they will ally with teachers unions to crush private and home schooling, and they have made it evident that the alliance with the Union is more important than children's education when they scrapped a hugely money saving (saved 45% off the cost of public education) voucher program that got kids in DC out of horrible dangerous schools with terrible results in education and helped them into private schools with excellent results and a nice environment for the children in stead of dangerous, but the alliance with the teachers Union was more important than the children's safety, the quality of the education, and the huge money they were saving on the program. That has to tell you something. The Obama's have also profited richly when Michelle Obama devised a program to shove the poor out to crappy clinics so the rich could have better access to the nice facilities in a University Hospital in Chicago. There is a congressional investigation underway started by democrats and involving the extremely leftist democrat Bobby Rush. This is not about what's good for you. The Obama administration is not about what is good for the poor, but they are elitists who align with the rich and lie to and use the poor for political support to help their big support in the circles of the world's elite billionaires. Yes, the world's billionaires, people like George from Belgium who hates the position of the US in the world and seeks to bring down our standard of living, while he and his billionaire friends, the ruling class and the Oligarchy they create are of course above all those rules and restrictions they place on the little people. Take a really good look at what you are getting here. You may also want to take a good look at how the people have ever fared in a popular uprising involving taking from one group to supposedly give to the masses. The poor screwed the producers in the country, got a little to start and keep them going, and it ended up with the extremely rich and the governing class getting it all, those with enough money getting out, and the poor stuck in much worse conditions than they started with. Russia, Cuba, Burma, Germany (under the National Socialist Nazi Party) Iran, and so many other examples around the world. When the government takes control and there is no one to stop them, they will never look out for the little guy, ever. They take it all for themselves and their friends. That is where we are headed people. George = George Soros, didn't get that last name in. Will, You are Wrong, or Dishonest. The Federal Government is not giving the incentive to Ford. Why is it democrats without an argument invariably turn to lies? And invariably don't really have a good argument? This is not a partisan thing.
I am looking for someone, who has had, recent back surgery ( a spinal fusion).? I have heard a lot of horror stories with back surgeries. I have already met with one doctor, and I am getting a second opinion within the month. How long after the surgery were you able to drive, go back to work.? Currently, I am out of Loyola in Maywood, which is a great hospital. Can someone please, recommend me to a good neurologist at one of the better Chicago Hospitals. Rush, Northwestern Memorial, University of Chicago. Thanks, Barb
Being admitted into Loyola University Chicago? I'm stressing out. I REALLY need to get into Loyola University in Chicago because I get free tuition since my mom works for the hospital, but if I don't get in this coming fall ( i'm a senior right now) we lose the benefits for it and i don't get free tuition any of the years i go. Ok, here's where i'm at right now: ACT: 20 - but I signed up to retake it December 13, 2008 GPA: 3.07 I will have a few college recommendations, one being from a United States District Judge in Chicago, who went to Loyola for both regular college and law school. ( Judge John W. Darrah) ok, be completely honest, i need to know the truth. Do you think I will get accepted? I don't think so and it's scaring me. I've only had 2 d's in my highschool career so far which were in german and chemistry ( 1 d for each out of the two semesters) The rest of my grades were C's ( which were mostly in math and science, my two worst subjects) and A's and B's ( which were in my english and history classes, and my freshman and sophmore years I was in AP english and history.) ahh, so, what do you guys think?
What does this say about Barak Obama? Does this change your opinion? http://www.earthtimes.org/articles/show/news_press_release,125970.shtml CHICAGO, June 20 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- While 2008 Presidential candidate Barack Obama assures voters that he is fighting to make healthcare more affordable, the second of a series of investigative videos on Senator Obama, titled "The Audacity of Health Care -- Health Care Debate," demonstrates he has done NOTHING to make it more so. In fact, the explosive new video, which can be viewed at http://www.obamatruth.org/, alerts voters that Senator Obama has benefited from the University of Chicago Hospitals marking up their actual costs by 350 percent on the uninsured. The most troubling examples of Obama losing his moral compass on the healthcare issue are his wife, an employee of the hospital, receiving an increase in her total compensation by almost $200,000 a year shortly after he was sworn in and University of Chicago Hospitals executives providing Obama with over $100,000 in campaign contributions over the over the past few years. The video tells how Obama who once appeared on the website of the Service Employees Union with the quote "hospitals terrorize the uninsured" has done nothing to stop his hospital, The University of Chicago Hospitals from spending over $10 million on collection fees over the past two years in an attempt to terrorize people, many who are uninsured, into paying bills that have been marked up far beyond cost. This healthcare terrorism continued unabated despite the hospital posting a record profit of $103,642,743 in 2005, a record that they will shatter this year. While Senator Obama has rightfully criticized the excessive profits made by pharmaceutical companies and large insurance companies, he has done NOTHING about the excessive profits made by not-for-profit hospitals by their price gouging uninsured patients. By not speaking out against the University of Chicago's profiting from the uninsured, Senator Obama has turned his back on his neighbors and reneged on his promise of more affordable healthcare.
Why is Obama preaching the need for ? Why is Obama preaching the need for health care reform when Michelle Obama worked at the University of Chicago Hospital where her job consisted of negotiating higher patient hospital health care rates with insurance companies and Michelle was instrumental in assisting the Hospital in becoming one of the first area hospitals to deny admission to private pay patients on the basis that they had already negotiated pre-authorized higher health care rates with the insurance companies ? Why is Obama trying to reform what his wife used to do when she worked at University of Chicago Hospital......namely induce insurance companies to agree to pay the highest possible medical & hospital bills charged for every patient ? It becomes a cycle ---- Michelle got the insurance companies to agree to pay higher patient bills charged to them by the hospital and, in turn, the insurance companies pass these higher hospital bill costs along to the insured subscriber patient by charging them higher insurance premiums

I live in Maryland and I am a first generation Iranian.
Do I have a shot at Loyola University of Chicago??? Hello! I want to attend Loyola University Chicago to study nursing. I live in the suburbs of Chicago, am about to enter the 11th grade, and my father attended grad school at Loyola. I love the city and my parents want me to stay close to home since I'm an only child. So this seems like a good fit If you know anything about the nursing program, like how tough it is to get into and its reputation, the overall happiness of students, campus life, etc. please share!! Here are my current stats: My cumulative average over the past 2 years is a 98.81% I take all honors classes and APs with the exception of history (cause I hate it lol) I have been volunteering at my local hospital for about 8 months, and plan on doing so until I leave for college. I love it SOOO much!! I plan on getting some form of part time job next summer. I am involved in a few clubs at school, hope to become president of one. No sports I will have plenty of volunteering hours. There is a possibility I will be invited to National Honors Society. Haven't taken the ACT or SAT. PLAN test I got a 22 (LOW for me, trust me, I didn't even read the Science section because I was so careless that day). Was invited to take the PSAT and my overall score was 168. I should keep up the high avg. over the next 2 years due to my undying perfectionism in my studies :)
Why is Michelle Obamas not for profit hospital making big bucks? Advocate Health has the largest market share in the Chicago Metropolitan area, coming in at 13.6%. In comparison, not-for-profit The University of Chicago Hospitals-where Michelle Obama works has only a 2.2% share. As we just reported, for the 12 months of their fiscal year 2007, not-for-profit Advocate Health made $259,938,000 in profits. For the first 6 months of their FY08, not-for-profit The University of Chicago Hospitals has already reported making $118,724,000 in profits. Market share isn't all it's cut out to be if you have the right kind of patients. http://www.wherethemoneygoes.com/newSearch.php?SearchString=obama&Submit=Search
Would it be a conflict of interest if ? Considering Michelle's background when she worked at the University of Chicago Hospital where her job consisted of negotiating higher insurance fees for the Hospital.......would it be a conflict of interest if Michelle incorporated as the " Barry O'Bama Health Insurance Company " offering ' health insurance from a name you can trust ' ?
Will I get into Northwestern, Chicago University or any other Ivy League school? Will I get into Northwestern, Chicago University or any other Ivy League school? My freshman year was awful. I had a 3.1 GPA on a 4.0 scale. My sophomore year was better, but not great. I ended up with a 3.8 GPA on a 4.0 scale. My junior and senior year, I had a 4.0 GPA. -I took all of my classes in all 4 years as either honors or AP, with 2 APs out of a possible 3 junior year and 4 APs senior year. The highest possible was 5 so I took all the ones that were available except for math. -I got a 34 on my ACT out of 36 but did not take the SAT -I speak 4 languages fluently (English, Spanish, Polish, and French) and took Latin all 4 years of high school -I have been participating in Best Buddies Club all 4 years of high school, Orchestra 2 years of high school, Community Service Club all 4 years of high school, Amnesty International all 4 years, Latin Club all 4 years, Israeli Club all 4 years, and a few other clubs here and there. Keep in mind that my school does not allow students to be presidents of clubs. -I only took 1 year of varsity sports -I have been a member of the National Honors Society for all 4 of my high school years -I wrote a great application essay and am not worried at all about my interview -I have taken at five internships since I began high school, two of them being for business (one was overseas in France) and three being at hospitals -I have been writing for the school newspaper since my sophomore year -I have been playing piano since the age of 4 and have been part of many different competitions and have performed in five small concerts -I have taken 4 years of English, History, Language, Science, Math, and have also taken part in many different arts classes -My mother graduated from the University of Chicago but I have no family that graduated from Northwestern or any other Ivy League School for that matter since my entire family is from Europe -During my senior year, I worked as an assistant to a gym teacher for both semesters -I was accepted into many different writing and art competitions and had a six different writing pieces published in the school's magazine I was hoping that one of you could tell me whether or not you think I could get into these colleges or any college like Harvard, Stanford, University of Pennsylvania, Washington, Brown, Duke, Yale, UCLA, etc... I am hoping to hear that my freshman year will not affect the decisions of colleges too deeply. Will I get into college? (Northwestern, Ivy League, University of Chicago)? I am hoping to hear that my freshman year will not affect the decisions of colleges too deeply. organ donor hiv unreal? With HIV and HCV By Michael Smith, Senior Staff Writer, MedPage Today Published: November 14, 2007 Reviewed by Zsofia Szep, MD; Infectious Diseases Division, University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. CHICAGO, Nov. 14 -- A single transplant donor has left four recipients infected with HIV, the first such case in more than 20 years, officials here said. And, in what is apparently the first case of two viruses being transmitted by a transplant at the same time, all four recipients also were infected with hepatitis C. The infections were not detected in the organ donor because the test used -- the Enzyme-Linked ImmunoSorbent Assay, or ELISA -- detects the antibodies to the two viruses. But in the first weeks after infection -- 22 days for HIV and 82 for hepatitis C -- the antibody response is not strong enough to trigger a positive test. So, if the donor had been infected only a few weeks before death, officials said, the test would have come back negative. The transplants took place in January at the University of Chicago Medical Center, Northwestern Memorial Hospital, and Rush University Medical Center. But it was only two weeks ago that the infections were discovered, according to Michael Millis, M.D., of the University of Chicago Hospitals. The news was "very surprising and devastating" for the four recipients, Dr. Millis told reporters. Public health officials in Chicago and at the CDC are trying to see whether any of the recipients have passed on either infection during the time since their transplants. The CDC said the last case of HIV transmission because of a transplant took place in 1986, when three people in Virginia died of AIDS after receiving infected organs. That was in the early days of the HIV/AIDS pandemic, when safeguards were less stringent than today, officials said. A spokesman for the United Network for Organ Sharing said there have been more than 400,000 organ transplants in the U.S. since the 1986 cases without a reported case of transmission. "We believe there's already a very small risk of transmission through the safeguards we have in place," Joel Newman told reporters. Once the infections were discovered, stored blood from the donor was re-tested using ELISA and also came back negative for both viruses. Blood banks use a more sensitive test for HIV -- Nucleic Acid Amplification Testing, or NAAT -- which detects the viral genetic material directly, but that test is not routinely used in transplantation. When the donor's blood was tested using NAAT, the HIV infection was detected. A screening questionnaire showed that the donor had engaged -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Looking for last minute shopping deals? How can you compare Cindy McCain to Michelle Obama? Michelle: She was born and grew up on the South Side of Chicago, and she was educated at Princeton University and Harvard Law School. After completing her formal education, she returned to Chicago and went to work for the law firm Sidley Austin, on the staff of the Mayor of Chicago Richard M. Daley, and for the University of Chicago and the University of Chicago Hospitals. She is the sister of Craig Robinson, men's basketball coach at Oregon State University. Cindy: She attended Madison Meadows Elementary, and was a rodeo queen in 1968. Hensley received a Bachelor of Arts in education and a Master of Arts in special education, both from the University of Southern California.[1][12] At USC, she was a cheerleader.
Why did Michelle formerly work at ? If Michelle Obama is for reduced health care costs + universal health care .....why did Michelle formerly work at the University of Chicago Hospital where her job consisted of negotiating higher health insurance benefit rates for the Hospital + being instrumental in establishing a policy where the Hospital became one of the first area Hospitals to deny care to any uninsured private pay patients ? Why did Michelle Obama receive over a $ 125,000 raise from the University of Chicago Hospital shortly after then Senator Obama obtained a grant of $ 250,000 for the Hospital ? On August 23, 2008 the Chicago Sun Times ran an article reporting how Michelle Obama had directed uninsured poor patients away from the University of Chicago Hospital where she worked at her $ 317,000 per year job to other facilities
Is Obama Honest? 1. He joined and remained active in a church where racism and anti-American hate is routinely preached. He and his family attended, and heavily contributed for about 20 years. This has received worldwide attention, as show in the link below. Ten Must-See Videos from The Times Online Obama first claimed not to know about Wright’s inflammatory statements. He later admitted he did. CBS News Flip-Flip Video CBS News OOPS… didn’t notice. Or else he forgot. Rev Wright, one of the ministers, even promoted Obama and denigrated Hillary Clinton from the pulpit spurring an IRS investigation as to the validity of their non-profit status. The Obama campaign is also reported to have campaigned on at least one occasion at church events, furthering the curiosity of the IRS. WCBS TV Obama Speech at General Synod of the United Church of Christ But, OOPS… he didn’t know. Or didn’t mind. 2. Senator Obama bought stock in two companies whose investors included his 2004 campaign political donors. One, in fact, was developing medicine to treat avian flu — with the stock purchase coming right before Obama introduced legislation to increase funding to combat the virus. The other company, SkyTerra, received government permission to build a national wireless network on the day Obama purchased his shares. Among the principal owners of this business were four people who had raised more than $150,000 for Obama. Attorney Obama claimed later that they were in a semi-blind trust, that just didn’t legally work out. When this became public, Obama sold the stock. Chicago Sun-Times New York Times Oops… he didn’t know. Or didn’t he mind? 3. Senator Obama came into politics through the famously corrupt Chicago political machine, with the help of some of the slimiest characters imaginable. (Several major players who helped him are have been indicted for graft, fraud, etc. Obama now keeps a rep at Rezko’s trial every day to monitor testimony.) Obama has had to donate to charity much of the money they gave him to get his start, though the admitted dollar amount keeps increasing as time goes on. It’s now up over $250,000. Tony Rezko, currently at trial on federal charges of attempted extortion, money laundering, and fraud, was also involved in the purchase of Obama’s home at well below market value. Huffington Post Chicago Sun-Times New York Times Not so well publicized is the fact that Obama wrote letters to the Illinois Dept of Housing, recommending Rezco’s company, North Kenwood, LLC, for the housing projects that soon became slums, causing inhumane hardship for their residents. Obama Letters These slums, later repossessed, were in Obama’s district while he was an Illinois senator. In fact, some are about a mile from his home, and several are still boarded up. Obama professed to be unaware of any problems. During the Democratic debate on January 21, 2008, Obama, in fact, gave the impression that he had merely done about 5 hours of legal work for “this individual.” The Rezko Foreclosed Properties telegraph.co.uk No Quarter Rezko Watch Chicago Tribune: Almost Believable OOPS… he didn’t know. Said hospital, by the way, gave Michelle Obama a huge raise (nearly $200,000, more than doubling her salary) in 2005 after Barack was elected to the United States Senate. Michelle Obama Chicago Sun-Times According to The Chicago Tribune, “Obama had a special connection to Maytag: Lester Crown, one of the company’s directors and biggest investors whose family, records show, has raised tens of thousands of dollars for Obama’s campaigns since 2003.” Maytag closed its refrigerator plant in Galesburg, Ill during Obama’s 2004 Senate campaign, but Crown says Obama never raised the fate of the Galesburg plant with him. Obama’s campaign responded “that the senator did not know Crown sat on Maytag’s board until the Tribune noted it last September in a story about the closing of the Maytag headquarters in Newton, Iowa.” Chicago Tribune Obama Truth Oops… he didn’t know? He only stopped taking this political money — and began speaking out against it — when he launched his presidential campaign in February 2007. However, he still takes hundreds of thousands of dollars from their high level employees. Politifact The Hill Politifact Oops… he didn’t know? Or doesn’t mind? 6. Opponents have asked Senator Obama to release the records from his term of state office in Illinois. Since he has little other experience in politics (he did, after all, declare his presidential candidacy barely 2 years after election to the US Senate), this doesn’t seem an unreasonable request. The records might also shed light on his relationship with Rezko and some of the other corrupt individuals he rubbed shoulders with during his climb up through Chicago politics. But lo and behold, the records all seem to have mysteriously disappeared. Politico The Pantagraph, a central Illinois newspaper Questions have also been raised about Obama-sponsored legislation during the last year he was in office there. It is alleged that, in the interest of making Obama appear more prolific, then Illinois Senate Majority Leader Emil Jones appointed Obama as sponsor of many pieces of legislation, even though other senior senators had spent many years working on the bills. “I took all the beatings and insults and endured all the racist comments over the years from nasty Republican committee chairmen,” State Senator Rickey Hendon, the original sponsor of landmark racial profiling and videotaped confession legislation yanked away by Jones and given to Obama, complained to me at the time. “Barack didn’t have to endure any of it, yet, in the end, he got all the credit.” “I don’t consider it bill jacking,” Hendon told me. “But no one wants to carry the ball 99 yards all the way to the one-yard line, and then give it to the halfback who gets all the credit and the stats in the record book.” As a result, Todd Spivak of the Houston Press noted, “During his seventh and final year in the state Senate, Obama’s stats soared. He sponsored a whopping 26 bills passed into law — including many he now cites in his presidential campaign when attacked as inexperienced.” Houston Press Oops… he didn’t know? Or did he mind? 7. Obama’s website sported a page for the New Black Panthers organization until it was discovered and reported by the media. It was quickly removed. Obama denounced their support, but the New Black Panthers’ Winter 2008 newsletter still carries a full page ad for his campaign on page 36. Though the origin of the ad is not stated, it contains logos, graphics and quotes from the Obama website, which Obama could have ordered removed as a copyright violation. In addition to the controversy concerning his numerous “present” votes while in the Illinois legislature, Obama also maintains that he just pushed the wrong button on 5 or 6 other votes. (Let’s not even go there!) According to the New York Times, however, an examination of Illinois records shows at least 36 times when Mr. Obama was either the only state senator to vote present or was part of a group of six or fewer to vote that way, causing many to question whether he was really just trying to avoid taking a stand. On Wednesday, Feb 27, 2008, CTV reported that a senior member of Obama’s campaign, Austan Goolsbee, spoke directly with the Canadian Consulate General in Chicago to assure them that if Obama publicly spoke about opting out of NAFTA, they should not take it seriously. It would just be political posturing… campaign rhetoric. Obama flatly denied the report, attacking both Senator Clinton and Senator McCain for their comments on the issue. On March 4, the New York Times, among other sources, revealed that the conversation had indeed taken place, and published the memo. The Canadian government announced that an investigation would begin to find out who was responsible for leaking the memorandum concerning the conversation. Obama’s position on the war in Iraq, in spite of the October 2002 speech, has not been as unwavering as he would have us believe. # He wrote in The Audacity of Hope that by March of 2003, “I began to suspect that I might have been wrong.” # In July, 2004, he told the Chicago Tribune, “There’s not that much difference between my position and George Bush’s position at this stage.” # Once elected to the US Senate, he told Charlie Rose on PBS, “Once the decision was made, then we’ve got to do everything we can to stabilize the country, to make it successful, because we’ll have too much at stake in the Middle East. And that’s the position that I continue to take.” # Obama continued that tack in his speech of November, 2005. Mirroring the Bush administration’s position, he asserted on January 26, 2006, that “it remains my position that we have a role to play in stabilizing the country as Iraqis are getting their act together.” In this interview on Meet the Press, he further stated, “My position has been that it would not be responsible for us to unilaterally and precipitously draw troops down regardless of the politics, because I think that all of us have a stake in seeing Iraq succeed.” # It wasn’t until October of 2006 that he called for “all the leadership in Washington to execute a serious change of course in Iraq.” # A month before he announced his presidential candidacy he repositioned himself again, saying for the first time, “It’s time to start bringing our troops home.” # It wasn’t until May of 2007 that Obama voted against funding for the war for the first time. # In June, 2007, Obama voted no to Senator John F. Kerry’s proposal to remove most combat troops from Iraq by July 2007, warning that an “arbitrary deadline” could “compound” the Bush administration’s mistake. He voted instead for a Republican-sponsored resolution that stated the Senate would not cut off funding for troops in Iraq. To site just one example… According to ABC, Obama “has quietly worked with corporate lobbyists to help pass breaks worth $12 million,” that gave two overseas companies tariff suspensions. Both companies also have facilities in Illinois. One of these companies, Nufarm, told its shareholders it was making “more money than ever before in North America because it had increased its prices on its U.S. and Canadian customers, predominantly farmers.” This had the effect of profiting business interests in his state, while punishing its farmers. According to ABC News, “With a dozen tariff suspension bills to his name, Obama stands out as the most prolific of any Democratic presidential hopeful on the topic.” Despite Rhetoric, Obama Pushed Lobbyists’ Interests OOPS… he forgot. Or didn’t he mind? How many other things are we going to find that Senator Obama conveniently forgot? It is my hope that the political powers-that-be will lay off the talk about ending the primaries early, and that the media and the internet diggers will help us truly vet Senator Obama. Use a little old-fashioned, objective journalism… remember that? If he has nothing more to hide, it can only help him. But if we don’t know the whole story yet, it might just help us be certain that we can indeed put a Democrat in the White House in November. That is, after all, what Democrats want, isn’t it? Which of Obama's radical associations trouble you the most? Should the FBI or Justice Department investigate? Kevin Jennings – Safe School Czar; cofounder and executive director of the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network (GLSEN), told attendees at a GLSEN conference over a decade ago that he looked forward to the day when promoting homosexuality in schools will be seen in a positive light. He also broke the law as a teacher by not notifying authorities of a sexual relationship between one of his male students and an adult male. Van Jones – Ex-Green Jobs Czar; perhaps the most extremist of the extreme in the entire lot. As a self-avowed, self-identified Communist, Jones abhors liberty, the Constitution, the American way of life, and seeks to change it from top to bottom John Holdren – Science Czar, advocates for population control using the most extreme measures, such as forced sterilization and mandating the number of children Americans can have. He is also a proponent of ‘de-developing’ the United States, sending its agricultural practices and technology back to the 19th century. Holdren has also suggested that infants and chronically ill elderly do not fit his definition of ‘human,’ and therefore can be expendable. Cass Sunstein – Regulatory Czar and Harvard law professor, believes that animals should have the right to legal representation. If you try to get rid of rats in your home, a ‘concerned citizen’ could bring a lawsuit, with the rat as the plaintiff, to sue you for endangering a species. He also believes that if bloggers post something that turns out to be false, they should be prosecuted Mark Lloyd – FCC ‘Diversity Czar,’ supports Communist Hugo Chavez in Venezuela and believes that what Chavez did to squelch free speech in the media and seize the means of communication is a good model for the United States. His plan is to silence conservative talk radio by forcing ownership to change hands to minorities and by implementing a fee structure for licensing that will put most private broadcasters out of business. At that point, Loyd would make PBS, or NPR on the radio, the most powerful forces in broadcasting–controlled by the government, of course. Ezekiel Emanuel – Healthcare Czar, believes in using cost-benefit and comparative-benefit analysis to allocate healthcare resources. This means the fewer years you have left to live, the less cost-effective it is to treat you. Thus, most of those resources should be diverted from the elderly to younger people. This is the ‘rationing’ portion of ObamaCare that many of us have warned about. And this will be done even without the so-called ‘public option,’ which is not really what the debate about government control of healthcare is about in the first place. Even without the public option, the provision for rationing is inherent in the provisions of the bill, thanks to advisers such as Emanuel. Harold Koh – State Dept. legal advisor; “Sharia law could apply in U.S. courts” Adolfo Carrion – Urban Czar; pocketed thousands of dollars in campaign cash from city developers whose projects he approved or funded with taxpayers’ money. Michelle Obama – oversaw patient dumping scheme for profit, as the vice president of the University of Chicago hospital, where she also coincidently went from $100,000 to over $300,000 promotion upon Barack Obama becoming state senator. Tony Rezko – Chicago slum lord; convicted on 16 counts of corruption Jeremiah Wright – divisive, anti-white hatemonger who said the U.S. deserved the 9/11 terrorist attacks and that the government invented AIDS to kill blacks. Barack Obama and his family attended his church for 20 years. ACORN – corrupt federally-funded organization, who Obama gave $800,000 to, and who Obama lawyered for, and benefitted from politically. Fraudulant voter registration drives. Exposed in 2009 advising a pimp and prostitute on how to bring in minors from other countries for purposes of prostitution, how to get illegal tax breaks and how to stash away profits. William Ayers – Weather Underground domestic terrorist who planted bombs at police stations and who Obama has partnered with on radical leftist projects with the intent of indoctrinating youth. Frank Marshal Davis – communist activist with ties to Chicago organized crime; Davis, who in Obama’s own words was his mentor, got Obama into Harvard and connected him with Chicago’s corrupt political organizations. Lets not forget about tax cheats Tim Geithner, Kathleen Sebelius and Tom Daschle. Source: http://www.amazon.com/Culture-Corruption-Cheats-Crooks-Cronies/dp/1596981091

Is this the Culture of Corruption? WORKING THE SYSTEM At the top right hand corner of page 17 of the New York Post, January 24, 2009, was a column entitled, "Replacing Michelle" in the National Review, The Week. Here it is as it appeared: "Some employees are simply irreplaceable. Take Michelle Obama: The University of Chicago Medical center hired her in 2002 to run 'programs for community relations, neighborhood outreach, volunteer recruitment, staff diversity and minority contracting'. In 2005 the hospital raised her salary from $120,000 to $317,000 – nearly twice what her husband made as a Senator. Her husband, Barak Obama, had just become a U.S. Senator. He requested a $1 million "Earmark" for the UC Medical Center. Way to network, Michelle! Now that Mrs. Obama has resigned, the hospital says her position will remain unfilled. How can that be, if the work she did was vital enough to be worth $317,000? Let me add that Michelle's position was a part-time, 20-hours-a-week job. My thoughts: How did this bit of "quid pro quo" (scratch my back - I'll scratch yours) corruption escape the sharp reporters that dug through Sarah Palin's garbage and kindergarten files? I hope this is forwarded so many times that the media will HAVE to cover it. Recession is when your neighbor loses his job. Depression is when you lose your job. Recovery is when Obama loses his job!

If you don't have a Christian job, don't you have to still survive? I work as a nurse aide and the wages suck. All I can afford to do is pay bills. That's it. I have to eat at my parents house because I can't afford food. They cut me off of food stamps. And I meet the qualifications to receive food stamps but they aren't offering much food stamp money.I can't live on that.So I have to eat at my parents'.My apartment barely has furniture. Can't afford it. So I took bartending classes and I am trying to land a bartending job.Bartenders earn more money than nurse aides. And with a bartending job I would finally be able to afford furniture, clothing, food, etc. In this economy people have to do what they have to do to survive. I know being a Christian girl in a bar isn't ideal but I need the money.Bartenders earn better wages than nurse aide. This nurse aide job isn't working.I been a nurse aide for 2 years and I'm still earning under $10 an hour.I tried the hospitals and those are very hard to get into even if you know people. One of my coworkers has 3 relatives working for University of Chicago hospital and she has had 3 years experience and she still can't get into University of Chicago Hospital. And when I do land a bartending job,I have to keep it a secret from my pastor or he'll freak out.I have to keep it a secret from everyone in my church when I land the job. I am going to try again for the nanny jobs, but when I tried to become a nanny before I kept getting turned down because I don't have a car and because I didn't have enough references.Well now that I do have 4 references I can try again for the nanny jobs, but if I can't land a job as a nanny then I'm going to have to become a bartender because I have to survive.I can't keep living on these little worthless wage I'm earning as a nurse aide. I'm still in college.I don't graduate until spring of 2010. And lots of college studends bartend. Its a great way to get thru school. Even if the job isn't ideal for a Christian, don't you still have to do what you have to do to survive? And it is not a bartender's job to get a person drunk. They are cracking down on bartenders. We are instructed to cut the person off before they get drunk. We have the right to cut the person off if we see the signs that they are about to reach the level of getting drunk. We must cut them off before they get drunk. Even if you are Christian don't you still have to survive?Esp.in this bad economy?

How come Barack Obama wants to spread my wealth but he wants to HIDE his own? http://townhall.com/Columnists/HankAdler/2008/10/24/obamas_minuscule_charity_contributions Senator Obama’s tax returns are pretty interesting. In comparing his 2007 tax return to previous years, other than a very significant increase in income, the major change is that Senator Obama has found a pretty good tax planner. Senator Obama has implemented several tax strategies that have reduced his 2007 Federal income taxes and if he continues with this planning, he and his family will save millions over the next couple of decades. Every step of the Obama tax plan appears to be 100% legal. It is well documented that between 2001 and 2004, the only noteworthy items in the Obama tax returns were that (a) their charitable contributions were negligible (less than $8400 with earned income of over $981,000) and (b) they amassed literally no savings over the four year period reporting a total of only $33 of interest income with earned income of over $981,000. It is also well documented that in 2005 and 2006, the only noteworthy items in the Obama tax returns were that (a) their charitable contributions rose to 3.5% ($92,867)of their adjusted gross income which now included book proceeds and amounted to $2.6M, (b) they continued to amass virtually no savings with total interest and dividend income in 2006 amounting to $5700 while earnings exceeded $1.6M in 2006 and $991K in 2007 and (c) following Senator Obama’s election to the United States Senate, they reported an almost tripling of Mrs. Obama’s salary from the University of Chicago Hospitals to $316,962 and her new Boards of Directors’ fees of $45,000. In 2007, Senator Obama gave $240,000 of his gross income of $4.2M to charity (5.7%). In 2007, Senator Obama began to orchestrate his new tax plan. He implemented three important tax planning ideas: (a) Senator Obama initiated a Simplified Employee Pension (SEP) allowing him to contribute and deduct a $45,000 payment to a new personal retirement plan, a plan which will augment his governmental pensions and Mrs. Obama’s pension from University of Chicago Hospitals, (b) Senator Obama placed virtually his entire after-tax book proceeds into tax-free municipal bonds which produced non-taxable income of $45,000 and provided insulation against the recent stock market implosion and (c) Senator Obama created tax-free College Savings Plans for each daughter with a total funding of $240,000. (Senator Obama’s disclosure statements show these contributions to be between $200,000 and $500,000, but as no gift tax forms were filed, it is a professionally educated guess that these contributions were $120,000 for each child.) These plans will allow the Obama children to earn investment income without ever paying Federal income taxes if the funds are used for education. Each of these tax planning steps would be recommended to Senator Obama by any competent tax advisor. While these opportunities are obviously available to anyone, only wealthy taxpayers have the funds necessary to implement such planning. Tax savings – SEP: Federal tax savings in 2007 approximated $15,300. Assuming that Senator Obama’s book fees continue or he has other sources of income, by age seventy, with a six percent annual return, this retirement plan should have just short of $2 million of untaxed earnings and interest. Tax Savings – College Funds: Federal tax savings in 2007 were none. Future tax savings will be significant. The $240,000 invested in these funds will create non-taxable income during the lives of the funds and annually and permanently save the Obamas about $6000 of Federal income taxes. Tax Savings – Tax Exempt Income: Federal income tax saving in 2007 of approximately $15,000. The long term tax savings that could result from this strategy are very significant. If the amount stays at $45,000 of tax-free income, the annual savings will remain, at current tax rates, about $15,000 and through the Senator’s seventieth birthday, with reinvestment at the same tax-free rates, the Senator would have almost $2.8M with untaxed earnings of about $1.9M. --------- If he should continue the strategy with additional investment in tax-free securities, he could amass millions of dollars of income which would not be subject to Federal income tax. Is the Senator’s tax and investment plan a good one? I think so. Whether his tax plan to significantly reduce his Federal income taxes and maximize his family wealth comports with his stated political position to use the Internal Revenue Code to “spread the wealth”, I leave that to the reader.
Michelle Obama's Princeton roommate was envious of her?? When Donnelly first saw Obama's wife on TV, she was struck by how tall and graceful she looked. Then she studied her more closely. Michelle Obama looked so familiar..... Could that be Michelle Robinson? A Google search gave Donnelly the answer. Obama was far more than a first-lady hopeful. She had gone to Harvard Law School, had been an associate dean at the University of Chicago and rose to vice president at the University of Chicago Hospitals. Like Donnelly, she was mother to two children. I was inspired," she says. "I was amazed. And I was envious of all she had accomplished." http://www.ajc.com/news/content/news/stories/2008/04/12/roommate_0413.html Your thoughts?
Is it fair that Obama got an incredible deal on his mortgage from Rezko, but we all have to play by the rules? What was it again? Shortly after being sworn in as a U.S. Senator in January 2005, Obama bought a Georgian mansion in an upscale Chicago neighborhood. Obama bought the house for $300,000 less than the asking price of $1.95 million. The Obamas' income had just risen dramatically. As a U.S. Senator, Obama got an annual salary of $162,100, Random House agreed to reissue an Obama memoir as part of a $2.27 book million deal, and the University of Chicago Hospitals promoted Michelle Obama and more than doubled her pay, to $317,000. To finance his new mansion, Obama secured a $1.32 million loan from Northern Trust in Illinois. Obama received a discount on the loan:He locked in an interest rate of 5.625 percent on the 30-year fixed-rate mortgage, below the average for such loans at the time in Chicago. The loan was unusually large, known in banker lingo as a "super super jumbo." Obama paid no origination fee or discount points, as some consumers do to reduce their interest rates. Compared with the average terms offered at the time in Chicago, Obama's rate could have saved him more than $300 per month. So who cares? Perhaps you should. Joe Stephens explains why in the Washington Post:But amid a national housing crisis, news of discounts offered to Sens. Christopher J. Dodd (D-Conn.), chairman of the banking committee, and Kent Conrad (D-N.D) by another lender, Countrywide Financial, has brought new scrutiny to the practice and has resulted in a preliminary Senate ethics committee inquiry into the Dodd and Conrad loans. Within Obama's presidential campaign organization, former Fannie Mae chief executive James A. Johnson resigned abruptly as head of the vice presidential search committee after his favorable Countrywide loan became public. Driving the recent debate is concern that public officials, knowingly or unknowingly, may receive special treatment from lenders and that the discounts could constitute gifts that are prohibited by law. "The real question is: Were congressmen getting unique treatment that others weren't getting?" http://www.examiner.com/x-268-Right-Side-Politics-Examiner~topic5532-Rezko

Why does Obama lie about taking money from specail interest groups and lobbyists? He has completely snowed his supporters into believing that he is against special interest and accepting funding from lobbyists. One look at where all that money is coming from tells another story. Obama's presidential campaign has received nearly $5 million dollars from securities and investment firms and $866,000 from commercial banks through October of 2007. Obama's top contributor so far is Goldman Sachs (provider of $369,078 to Obama), identified by Center for Responsive Politics (CRP) investigators as "a major proponent of privatizing Social Security as well as legislation that would essentially deregulate the investment banking/securities industry." Eight of Obama's top twenty election investors are securities and investment firms: Goldman Sachs, Lehman Bros. (number 2 at $229,090), J.P. Morgan Chase and Co. (# 4 at $216,759), Citadel Investment Group (#7 at 4166,608), UBS AG ($146,150), UBS-America ($106,680), Morgan Stanley ($104,421), and Credit Suisse Group ($92,300). The last two firms are also known to be leading privatization advocates (Center for Responsive Politics 2007a). Meanwhile, Obama's presidential run has been "assisted" by more than $2 million from the health care sector and nearly $400,000 from the insurance industry through October of 2007 (Center for Responsive Politics 2007b). Obama received $708,000 from medical and insurance interests between 2001 and 2006 (Center for Responsive Politics 2007c). His wife Michelle, a fellow Harvard Law graduate, was until a recently a Vice President for Community and External Affairs at the University of Chicago Hospitals, a position that paid her $273, 618 in 2006 (Sweet 2007). And Obama's sixth largest contributor is Exelon, the proud Chicago-based owner and operator of more nuclear power plants than any entity on earth (Center for Responsive Politics 2007a). Go figure. As for his "lobbyist ban," last August the Los Angeles Times reported that Obama "raised more than $1 million in the first three months of his presidential campaign from law firms and companies that have major lobbying operations in the nation's capital." Campaign finance expert Stephen Weissman observed that this raised troubling questions about the practical relevance of Obama's much-ballyhooed pledge to turn down donations from "federal lobbyists." "Obama's rise to national prominence and presidential viability, Helman discovered, depended significantly on PAC and lobbyist money." As Los Angeles Times reporter Dan Morain explained, "some of the most influential [lobbyist] players, lawyers and consultants among them, skirt disclosure requirements by merely advising clients and associates who do actual lobbying, and avoiding regular contact with policymakers. Obama's ban does not cover such individuals." Thus, to give one example, Obama received $33,000 in the first quarter of 2007 from the Atlanta-based law firm Alston & Bird, which maintains a large lobbying division in Washington. Obama's $33,000 came bundled from a number of "consultants" employed by the firm. Also deleted from Obama's "ban" are state lobbyists. Obama took $2000 from two Springfield, Illinois lobbyists for Exelon, which spent $500,000 to influence policy in Washington in 2006 and gave $160,000 directly to Obama (Morain 2007). An especially big dent in the armor of Obama's effort to sell himself as the noble repudiator of lobbyist, PAC, and special interest money generally was inflicted in early August of 2007. That's when the Boston Globe published a widely circulated article titled "PACs and Lobbyists Aided Obama's Rise: Data Contrast With His Theme." Globe reporter Scott Helman reviewed campaign finance records to find that a "more complicated truth" lurked "behind Obama's campaign rhetoric." Obama's rise to national prominence and presidential viability, Helman discovered, depended significantly on PAC and lobbyist money, including large sums from "defense contractors, law firms and the securities and insurance industries" to his own powerful PAC "Hopefund." Of special interest was Helman's determination that Obama was retaining close and lucrative funding relationships with leading Washington-based lobbyists and lobbying firms while technically avoiding direct contributions from those key campaign finance players. Sorry about the length. I thought it would be easier then sending people to a ton of resources via links. Obama has not come clean about all of this activity. He has only addressed and provided explanations for some of the points made. I can't vote on a promise for reform, I can only look to what the candidate IS doing in the present.
Do I have the right amout of safety/backup/reach schools? Hi! I'm a senior in high school and I got a 32 on the ACT and I have a 3.75 gpa unweighted and 4.17 gpa weighted. I took quite a few honors classes, and I will have taken 4 AP classes. (I got all 4s on my previous AP tests) I've been in quite a few clubs including Key Club, a club assisting special education classes, I'm in Spanish NHS, I volunteer at a hospital once a week, and I play Varsity Softball. Anyway, these are the schools I am planning on applying to: USC, UCLA, University of Virginia, University of Chicago, University of Wisconsin-Madison, and University of Alabama. My first choice is USC, but close behind are UCLA and Virginia. I would rather go to these schools, but I would still be thrilled if I got into Chicago. Wisconsin-Madison is a school that I would be happy at, it's kind of close to home, and it's still a good school. I'm confident that I could get in. I'm applying to Alabama because I know that with my grades and ACT score, I'm guaranteed 4 years full tuition. So basically, I could go there for free, and I'm pretty positive that I will get in. So Alabama's my safety school. So does this seem like a good plan? Do you guys think that I could get into USC, UCLA, Virginia, or Chicago? (I'm not sure which one is the most exclusive) By the way, I live in Chicago, if that makes a difference. And my family is middle class, so we would struggle a bit, but potentially we can pay tuition for these schools. (I'm hoping that I can get grants and scholarships though.)
Michelle Obama was born working class and became a self made millionaire: shouldn't cons love her? Michelle LaVaughn Robinson was born on January 17, 1964, in Chicago, Illinois to Fraser Robinson III, a city water plant employee and Democratic precinct captain, and Marian Shields Robinson, a secretary at Spiegel's catalog store. According to the couple’s 2006 income tax return, her salary was $273,618 from the University of Chicago Hospitals, while her husband had a salary of $157,082 from the United States Senate. The total Obama income, however, was $991,296, which included $51,200 she earned as a member of the board of directors of TreeHouse Foods, and investments and royalties from his books.[44] @wolf: you are making fun of cons right? @john milton: income taxes mean annual earnings. If she made that the previous year, BOOM, millionaire.
Why do cons resent the fact Michelle Obama worked hard, became successful, and can now take nice trips? Can you come up an answer for this?--------------------------------------------------------------------------- Barack Obama's Racist Church If Sen. Obama rejects the Rev. Wright’s warped view of this country, why does he continue to attend his church? Monday, January 7, 2008 10:16 AM By: Ronald Kessler Imagine if Mitt Romney’s church proclaimed on its website that it is “unashamedly white.” The media would pounce, and Romney’s presidential candidacy would be over. Yet that is exactly what Barack Obama’s church says on its web site — except in reverse. “We are a congregation which is unashamedly black and unapologetically Christian,” says the Trinity United Church of Christ’s website in Chicago. “We are an African people and remain true to our native land, the mother continent, the cradle of civilization.” That’s just the beginning. The church has a “non-negotiable commitment to Africa,” according to its website, and its pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr. subscribes to what is called the Black Value System. While the Black Value System includes such items as commitment to God, education, and self-discipline, it refers to “our racist competitive society” and includes the disavowal of the pursuit of “middle-classness” and a pledge of allegiance to “all black leadership who espouse and embrace the Black Value System.” It defines “middle-classness” as a way for American society to “snare” blacks rather than “killing them off directly” or “placing them in concentration camps,” just as the country structures “an economic environment that induces captive youth to fill the jails and prisons.” In sermons and interviews, Dr. Wright has equated Zionism with racism and Israel with South Africa under its previous policy of apartheid. On the Sunday after 9/11, Wright said the attacks were a consequence of violent American policies. Four years later, Wright suggested that the attacks were retribution for America’s racism. “In the 21st century, white America got a wake-up call after 9/11/01,” Wright wrote in a church-affiliated magazine. “White America and the western world came to realize that people of color had not gone away, faded into the woodwork or just ‘disappeared’ as the Great White West kept on its merry way of ignoring black concerns.” In one of his sermons, Wright said, “Racism is how this country was founded and how this country is still run!...We [in the U.S.] believe in white supremacy and black inferiority and believe it more than we believe in God.” As for Israel, “The Israelis have illegally occupied Palestinian territories for over 40 years now,” Wright has said. “Divestment has now hit the table again as a strategy to wake the business community and wake up Americans concerning the injustice and the racism under which the Palestinians have lived because of Zionism.” Obama says he found religion and Jesus Christ through Wright, whom he met in the mid-1980s. He has been attending Wright’s church regularly since 1988. The church occupies a tan building on West 95th Street near a public housing project and railroad tracks. Since becoming pastor in 1972, Wright has seen the church’s membership grow to more than 8,500. The church is the largest congregation in the United Church of Christ, a predominantly white denomination known for its liberal politics. In 1991, Obama joined the church and walked down the aisle in a formal commitment of faith. Wright later married Obama and Michelle Robinson and baptized their two daughters. The title of Obama’s bestseller “The Audacity of Hope” comes from one of Wright’s sermons. Wright is one of the first people Obama thanked after his election to the Senate in 2004. But Obama’s life does not exactly support Wright’s thesis that blacks in America are oppressed. A Harvard Law School graduate, Obama married a black Princeton graduate who also has a degree from Harvard Law School. Obama is a U.S. senator from Illinois; his wife is a vice president of the University of Chicago Hospitals. With his wife, Obama has been making more than $1 million a year. On a few points, Obama has sought to distance himself from Wright’s teachings or explain them away. While Wright is his pastor and friend, Obama has said, they do not see eye to eye on everything. In particular, Obama has said he “strongly disagrees with any portrayal of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict that advocates divestment from Israel or expresses anything less than strong support for Israel’s security.” As for Wright’s repeated comments blaming America for the 9/11 attacks, Obama has said it sounds as if the minister was trying to be “provocative.” Just before Obama’s nationally televised campaign kickoff rally last Feb. 10, the candidate disinvited Wright from giving the public invocation. Wright explained: “When [Obama’s] enemies find out that in 1984 I went to Tripoli” to visit Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi with Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan, “a lot of his Jewish support will dry up quicker than a snowball in hell.” According to Wright, Obama then told him, “'You can get kind of rough in the sermons, so what we’ve decided is that it’s best for you not to be out there in public.'” But privately, Obama and his family prayed with Wright just before the presidential announcement. To his credit, Obama so far has avoided race-specific appeals as part of his candidacy, accounting in part for his widespread appeal. Obama “has taught the black community you don’t have to act like Jesse Jackson, you don’t have to act like Al Sharpton,” conservative commentator Bill Bennett said on CNN on Jan. 3. “You can talk about the issues. [Obama has] great dignity.” But if Obama rejects Wright’s warped view of this country, why does he continue to attend his church, raising the question of whether Obama secretly agrees with his friend and mentor? At the least, Obama’s membership in Wright’s church suggests a lack of judgment and an insensitivity to views that are repugnant to the vast majority of white Americans who are not bigots. That same lack of judgment has shown up in Obama’s gaffes—threatening to invade Pakistan and offering prompt negotiations with anti-American despots. More frightening, Obama voted last August to give Osama bin Laden and other terrorists the same rights as Americans when it comes to intercepting their overseas calls in order to pick up clues needed to stop another attack. Jen Psaki, a spokesman for Obama’s campaign, has tried to paper over the candidate’s support of the Black Value System by saying that Obama “believes its basic tenets of commitment to God, to community, to self-discipline and self-reliance continue to have applicability not only to the African-American community but to all people.” But that is not what the Black Value System says. One can only imagine the outrage that would erupt if a white presidential candidate like Romney subscribed to something called the White Value System. Yet while Obama has been referred to in the media tens of thousands of times in the past month, only one story in the Concord Monitor in New Hampshire offhandedly mentioned Obama’s church’s “unashamedly black” slogan. In contrast, in an exquisite example of the double standard they apply to Democrats versus Republicans, the media love to focus on Romney’s religion, which is not relevant to how he would perform as president. Close to half the media references to Romney refer to the fact that he is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Very few of them mention that he is both a Harvard Law School and Harvard Business School graduate, credentials that are relevant to how he would perform as president. When Romney’s father ran for president, his religion was not an issue simply because the media rightly recognized that it was not pertinent to his candidacy. Today, as part of their coverage of Romney, the media run denigrating quotes about Mormonism that they would never dare to run about any other religion. At the same time, the media have largely ignored or downplayed the clearly racist slogan of Obama’s church and the anti-American and anti-Israel stances of its pastor. In two exceptions to the media blackout, Tucker Carlson of MSNBC described Trinity as having a “racially exclusive theology” that “contradicts the basic tenets of Christianity.” Sean Hannity of Fox News confronted Wright on TV and asked how a black value system is any more acceptable than a white value system. If a white presidential candidate’s church had a similar statement and “you substitute the word black for white, there would be an outrage in this country,” Hannity said. “There would be cries of racism in this country.'” “If your spiritual advisor makes outrageous statements, it’s incumbent on you as a leader to denounce those statements,” says Brad Blakeman, a former Bush White House aide who heads the conservative Freedom’s Watch. “Silence is an admission that you agree with what your spiritual advisor pronounces.” If his church membership calls into question Obama’s judgment, the dichotomy in the coverage of his and Romney’s religious affiliations spotlights the media’s double standard and how its skewed reporting influences who will become president. But media bias or not, if Obama is his party’s nominee, his Republican opponent will rightly be able to make use of Rev. Wright and his radical teachings as effectively as supporters of George H.W. Bush used Willie Horton’s furlough to help Bush win the presidency. Ronald Kessler is chief Washington correspondent of Newsmax.com. Why does Obama tout himself as the only presidential candidate not corrupted by Washington politics? Obama's earmark record contradicts that because he tried steering millions of federal dollars to his wife’s employer and the company of a top campaign donor. Recently released earmarks reveal that the Democratic presidential candidate requested $1 million for the hospital that employs his wife Michelle and $8 million for a military contractor with a board member who has given hefty sums to his campaign. The $1 million was requested in 2006 to build a new pavilion at the University of Chicago Hospitals, where Michelle Obama was vice president of community affairs. Michelle had already benefited from her husband’s flourishing political career with a huge salary increase that went from $121,910 in 2004 before he was elected to the Senate to $316,962 in 2005 just after he took office. Obama requested the $8 million for weapons technology manufactured by a big defense contractor (General Dynamics) with very close ties to a major fundraiser named James Crown.
Is this one reason why people have lost respect for the media & it angers them? Barack Obama's Racist Church If Sen. Obama rejects the Rev. Where can I download Windows XP Service Pack 2 without losing all of my wireless signals? I have a computer build by hand that's running Windows XP Home edition. I ran automatic updates but I had installed service pack 2 for windows xp and then I lost all of my wireless signals. I have AT&T and my computer is upstairs and my modem is downstairs so I use a 2Wire wireless receiver and I use 2WIRE manager because the regular thing that connects my computer to the internet doesn't work right. When I had download XP Service Pack 2 from http://www.softwarepatch.com/windows/xpsp2.html and then when it rebooted I had lost all of my wireless internet signals. 2WIRE manager didn't work either. Then when I uninstalled the program my computer crashed. Is it the website or my computer that's doing this? I have activated the computer now but I didn't register it. If I have to register it, then how do I register it? And what does registering your computer really do for your computer? This computer also was build by hand in the University of Chicago hospitals. My dad works there and his friends son build me this computer when I was really little and didn't really know how to put together a computer. It had crashed 3 times now because of that service pack. Should I just download the service pack from the Microsoft Website?

Admission to the University of Chicago and to Medical School? What will make me look great to the University of Chicago? Questions like which is better: having 1500+ volunteer hours and being a member of clubs or 3.99/4.9 GPA and taking as many classes as possible. I am a freshman in high school and I am in the IB program in Nebraska and I just want to plan ahead or have some thing to look forward to. I obviously plan to do very well in classes, take summer school, and be in the top 5/800 students in my class. 30-32 on the ACT and 2100+ on the SAT. In addition, I plan on spending a couple of weeks in Bombay volunteering at the Mother Theresa Orphans' Home. Things I plan on doing through High School: Chemistry Club Chess Club Tennis 3 years Forensics 1 year Debate 3 years 11 AP class semesters (6 of which are in my sophomore year) 3 IB HL classes (Biology, Chemistry, and English) 3 IB SL classes (Psychology, Spanish, and Mathematics) In the summers and on saturdays in the school year I volunteer at hospitals. I chose hospitals because I want to eventually become a surgeon and many of my class choices in high school reflect this (3 years of Biology, 3 years of Chemistry, 1 year of Physics.) Question 2: If I do go to a school outside of Nebraska, like the University of Chicago, will that hurt my chances of admission to UNMC, a state medical school? Question 3: With the information I provided earlier, will I be able to even get into the University of Chicago? Question 4: Is it worth it to go to prestigious universities? Question 5: Do medical schools like it when you don't major in physical or natural sciences? Thank you for all the help on these 5 questions. I would really appreciate people who will answer these burning questions.
What does the Chicago Medical Center look like? Isn't it big and fancy? I know it has a whole ton of specialized doctors that work there. I looked online, and found several pictures. But I wasn't sure which one was correct. Also, is there a website that I can get a floor plan or basic layout of the hospital? I'm writing a book, and part of the story is set in the University of Chicago Medical Center.

Do I have A Chance of Getting Into the University of Chicago? I'm a freshman in high school at the moment. These are my courses for freshman year: -Honors Biology -Honors Geometry -Spanish I -Art (Drawing & Painting) -P.E./Health -Social Studies -Language Arts These are the sports/extracurricular: -Football -Track & Field -Student Council -Key Club I am currently taking all the honors classes available at my school. I'm also planning to volunteer at a local hospital. I am also a fantastic artist. I have won many art contests in my school and city. How could I use my talent to "stand out" when applying to colleges? By the way, I am in the state of Illinois. Since I am in state, how much would it cost for me to go to the University of Chicago? Also, I am a very good 400 meter runner and long jump (best in my middle school). I'm hoping I can get a scholarship with Track & Field. I can also speak fluent Telugu (an Indian language) and some Hindi. What are some other things I could do to increase my chances of getting selected? At what range should my SAT & ACT test scores be at? By the way, I want to be a doctor (some type of surgeon). What are some good colleges for that (undergraduate & graduate)? Thanks for all the help in advance!

Will I get into the University of Chicago? I'm only a sophomore in high school, however I've recently been looking into schools and have decided this would be my ideal school to attend. Currently, I have a 3.6 GPA, however next year I'm completely set on doing what I must do in order to get straight A's and I'll be in 4 honors classes next year. I am currently in three honors classes, am the founder/president of Chinese Club, am a member of Eco Club, member of swim team, member of water polo team, have played hockey, work as a life guard, volunteer at my local hospital, and am applying for student council. I will also be a freshman mentor next year. I haven't yet taken the ACT, however I am this June and plan to prepare for it. If I continue to do well and succeed in getting straight A's next year, leaving me with roughly a 4.02 weighted GPA, do you think I will get accepted. I also have an interesting history, giving me plenty to write about on my essay. What do you think?
Chances at Vanderbilt, Georgetown, Johns Hopkins, University of Chicago? These are the some of the schools I'm applying to. Of course, I have some other schools, and some safeties, but I was wondering what my chances are for these. Here's my HS profile: Have taken the most rigorous roster offered at my school since freshman year Currently in IB program, but taking AP courses at the same time (basically, at our school, if you're in IB, you're also considered an AP student, and have to take the AP exams too - right now, i'm taking AP calc, AP physics, AP english, AP french 5, AP U.S. history, and at the same time, they're IB too, so I also take TOK) Rank = 1/323ish (its around 323, but i'm not too sure of the exact number) ACT score = 26 (I know this sucks; idk what happened here, but I retook it, and hopefully, I did better) Activities: Varisity Volleyball - 3years (senoir year was one of the captains) National Honor Society - 11th and 12th grade French Club - Secretary Debate team Brain Bee - 2 years Model United Nations - 3 years Newspaper Committee Principal's Council Advisory Veteran's History project - 2 years Judged middle school science fair Took 1 class at a community college nearby last summer, and I'm scheduled to take 3 more classes this spring Been in the honor roll since freshman year Recieved recognition by Congresswoman Allyson Schwartz for the Veterans History Project Honorable Mention for all public in Volleyball Selected and recieved an award at the National Language Convention Recieved a couple of "best of" awards in junior and sophomore year (basically, these awards recognize you as the best in your class in that particular subject) Volunteer Work: Went on Whosoever Gospel Mission Trip and cleaned down the burned building which was used as shelter for some people with few resources Volunteered at a Library nearby for about 30 hours Volunteered at the High School Exposition, where I represented my high school Went on the Multiple Sclerosis Walk Will be volunteering soon (in about a week) at a nearby hospital That's really all I can remember right now. I've also been in math competitions, but I don't think that counts. My ACT scores are horrible. I really don't know what happened there; I retook them, and hopefully I did better. But, do i have any chances at any of these schools? Please be honest. I really appreciate any help. Thanks a lot! GPA - 4.0 I'm not exactly sure what it is weighted, but I only have A's on my transcript.
Do I have a good chance of getting into University of Chicago? Here's some info on me: GPA - Class Rank: 4.15 weighted GPA [Unless I get a B in my AP English class 2nd semester] 4.0 unweighted GPA In the running for the top 10 (people not percent) SAT:2120 Critical Reading: 700 Math: 780 Writing: 640 Extracurricular: 150+ hrs. of volunteer service in hospital, library, and church 5yrs. of violin, 4yrs. of high school orchestra Class Rigor: 10th - 1 Honors 11th - 2 AP, 1 Honors 12th - 3 AP [Planned] University of Chicago is not a state college =) Well physikist, you may have some impressive vocabulary, but your grammar is so horrible I can't even understand what you are saying! I'm guessing when you say you have a very good gpa than mine, I'm guessing you have a higher GPA than mine. You are erudite what others think about you? Weird expression, man, you're running outside just to get in?
What are my chances of getting into University of Chicago? I have a 3.34 weighted GPA and I'm in my junior year. I plan to end with a 3.5 weighted gpa. My extracurricular activities include playing bass guitar and guitar. I play in a band currently and they are going to play a gig this year at our high school. I'm planning on doing some community service at a hospital. I had a summer job that involved painting houses. I also have taken summer school classes and I'm indian. I will have taken about 5 AP classes by the end of my high school years(AP European history, AP macroecon, AP Psyc, AP calc ab, AP Biology). I've only taken the PSAT so far, but I got a 1600 or a 1700 on it. I'm going to be taking SAT Prep classes before I take the SAT. So what are my chances of getting in and how can I increase them if they aren't very good? I just started my junior year. BTW, my school is the best in the state academiclly, in sports, and other stuff. So i dont know if that factors in. Most of our regular classes such as Biology and Chemistry are equivalent to the honors classes of them at other schools. What do you mean slim to none? My school is the best in the state of indiana and my gpa would technically be around 3.8 or 4.0 if i was at some other school. My AP classes are also outstanding and so are my extracirriculars.
Do I Have A Chance of Getting Into Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Princeton or University of Chicago? I'm a freshman in high school at the moment. These are my courses for freshman year: -Honors Biology -Honors Geometry -Spanish I -Art (Drawing & Painting) -P.E./Health -Social Studies -Language Arts These are the sports/extracurricular: -Football -Track & Field -Manager on the Basketball Team -Student Council -Key Club I am currently taking all the honors classes available at my school. By the way, I want to be a doctor (some type of surgeon). What are some good colleges for that (undergraduate & graduate)? Thanks for all the help in advance!
University of Illinois at Chicago Nursing? I know that UIC has a fantastic nursing program. And I live in the Chicagoland and would love to live in the city. I am a HS junior right now, and next year I plan on applying to UIC's guarantee program. This program guarantees the applicant admission to the nursing program which starts during the junior year of college. Traditionally, college sophomores have to apply for the program. I REALLY want to get into this program right off the bat. If anyone has information (preferably personal experiences or knowledge), please share!! The school requires a minimum score of 28 on the ACT or 1260 (I believe) on the SAT I and be in the top 10% of the high school class to be *considered* for the guarantee program. As of now my GPA is a 99% (cumulative, weighted). I take the most challenging curriculum at my school with the exception of history (I dropped the AP Us history class before the year started). I think I am in the top 10% of the class, but my school doesn't rank us so I am not positive. I have not taken the ACT or SAT yet. By the time I start applying, I will have 200-300 hours of volunteering at my local hospital. I am in some clubs and intramural softball as well. I know that I need my test scores to be considered, but judging off my current credentials and assuming I keep up the good work in school (I am quite the perfectionist), do you believe I could be admitted to this program? Thanks!
Would I get into Loyola Chicago University? I have a 3.35 GPA, I participate in Model UN, Track, Cross Country, I write for the school newspaper, I am an officer of the History Club, I am a counselor at a servise camp, and Ihave volunteered at a hospital. Would I make it
How can Obama say................? How can Obama say that he proposes universal health care & wants to make health care more affordable when Michelle Obama has worked as a Hospital Administrator for many years working with ( not against ) Big Health Insurance Companies & .....according to the Obama's 2006 tax return.......Michelle Obama earned over $ 273, 000. for the year as a Hospital Administrator for a University of Chicago Hospital ?? ---- Isn't this a clear conflict of interest and/or clear hypocrisy on Obama's part ??? Say what -LOL ---where do you work earning $ 273,000 + per year ? Michelle's job has EVERYTHING to do with Obama's ability to serve as a President who claims to be advocating reducing health care costs while Michelle earns what the Democrats falsely accuse only 1 % of rich white men earning.
Why does Obama lie about taking money from specail interest groups and lobbyists? Obama. Sorry, I think I should have posted this in elections. It is a question of ethics as well I suppose.
How can you help feeling sorry for Michelle? Until her husband ran for President she had never felt proud of her country. She's been struggling, meeting her household budget, finding time for her family to be together. It's sad that she's having such a hard time of it. I received a less than 3% raise in my military retiree pension last year. That pension was earned by serving my country for 20 years, sometimes in less than ideal conditions - for example in the jungles of southest asia a few years ago. Michelle also got a pay raise. In 2006, the Chicago Tribune reported that Mrs. Obama’s compensation at the University of Chicago Hospital, where she is a vice president for community affairs, jumped from $121,910 in 2004, just before her husband was elected to the Senate, to $316,962 in 2005, just after he took office. And that does not count the money Mrs. Obama receives from serving on corporate boards. Life is hard. OMG, I'm starting to sound like a liberal with class envy syndrome! Retrograde - The difference in welfare and my military pension is the fact that I EARNED it by settling for low wages for a dangerous job, uprooting my family every three years, and living in some hellhole locations. You're right, I do criticize unearned welfare. There are plenty of ways that recipients of "freebies" can work off their benifits. I worked to provide the tax dollars to pay for it. Why shouldn't they?
Is McCain a hypocrite when it comes to pork spending? Senator Clinton helped secure more than $340 million worth of special projects (ie., pork spending) for her home state of New York last year alone, including a $1 million earmark request for a museum devoted to the Woodstock music festival. These figure places her among the top 10 Senate recipients of earmarks. Senator Barack Obama of Illinois, placed at the bottom quarter of senators who seek earmarks. Obama sponsored a 2006 earmark to secure funds for the University of Chicago hospital in his home state . Both have been criticized by McCain. However, McCain sponsored a pork spending bill to direct $10 million over five years to create the William H. Rehnquist Center in his home state of Arizona - and McCain voted not present in the Senate last week rather than kill the $1 million earmark that Hillary requested. Senate approved a new pork spending ethics bill 83-14 to put an end to this nonsense. All 14 senators who voted against the bill were Republicans.

How can I find job in chicago? I can't find any jobs in Chicago, except for cashier, sales representitive, package handler, and in grocery shop, which I am not going to do at all. I am looking to work as a pharmacy technician, or as a receptionist at a Hospital or clinic. But can't find any! I need job very badly, I don't know where to look. I have been going online to look for them since last year, but when ever I apply no one replys back. I have been using yahoo hotjobs.com, monster, and chicagotribune. I am a junior in university without any degree. What should I do? :(

Could you please pray for my patient? I helped do a bone marrow biopsy on a patient with brand new diagnosed leukemia this morning. He is 48 yrs old and is very sick and is being sent to the University of Chicago Hospital tonite or early tommorrow AM. He is in dire need of the Lords help. If you believe the Lord answers prayers could you please ask him to help this really nice fella? I think it would be really nice if you could ask for him to be kept comfortable too. He tolerated the biopsy ok, and I know they will probably be doing another one soon. It hurts like crazy. thank you very much for praying for my patient. I appreciate it so much.
My chances of getting into a good college? Please answer from stated experience. I am currently an asian (hopefully diversity helps?) sophomore in high school. In my freshman year, my GPA was 4.5 , so I was ranked in the top 2.25% of my class. I was in track, Math Club and Scholastic Bowl. For my sophomore-senior years, I plan to maintain a 4.5 gpa, be in tennis and cross-country each year, math club, scholastic bowl and the international club. I aspire to be ranked in the top 2.5% of my class during graduation time. I will volunteer at hospitals and other organizations (about twice a year). I also plan to get a 31-34 on the ACT and 2000-2100 on the SAT (out of 2400). How come Obama could get away with this earmark? One of Obama's Earmark Requests Was for the Hospital That Employs Michelle Obama Dan Riehl notes, via Amanda Carpenter, that in the list of earmarks he requested, $1 million was requested for the construction of a new hospital pavilion at the University Of Chicago. The request was put in in 2006. You know who works for the University of Chicago Hospital? Michelle Obama. She's vice president of community affairs. As Byron noted, "In 2006, the Chicago Tribune reported that Mrs. Obama’s compensation at the University of Chicago Hospital, where she is a vice president for community affairs, jumped from $121,910 in 2004, just before her husband was elected to the Senate, to $316,962 in 2005, just after he took office." http://campaignspot.nationalreview.com/post/?q=OGRiMWFhNWY4MTgzMjI3NjEzNGQwMWFiMTlhYmRhN2Y= Looks like that raise was worth it, must be just part of the corrupt Chicago politics that Obama claims he was not part of. "Yeah, what a waste of money on hospitals? Who needs 'em?" Obviously went over his head, another of those 'highly educated" Obama supporters

Barrack Obama, why do you lie about everything? Why would anybody vote for this guy? I'm not some Republican blogger. I just listen to what our presidential candidates are saying and investigate back into it. This was several days in the making. I'm working on one for Hillary, but it might take a little longer than Obama's Ok Ashley, you caught me. I didn't write it, but I didn't get it from that site either. I got it from someone else on here who probably got it from there. Either way, I hate Obama and what he stands for. I thought people deserved to see this.
Have you seen this? If not, why? Are you still in the dark? This was the answer to a question, I think its great and should be on the front page of every newspaper and the internet until everyone has seen it, what do you think? With his lies, racist ties, and lack of experience, what else would we think? Obama’s LAUNDRY LIST OF LIES. 1.) my chances at getting in colleges of my choice? hello :) I'm going to be a senior this fall... GPA 4.12 (for 10th and 11th grades) SAT 2290 (should I take it again?) no AP classes for 10th grade (school doesn't offer AP to sophomores) 2 AP's (U.S. History and English composition), both grades of A, exam scores not out yet... school offers maximum of 3 or 4 AP classes for juniors... I will be taking 5 AP classes next year as a senior my extracurriculars are kind of weak... parliamentarian and VP of competition for school's FBLA one of 4 team leaders for Recycling Club involved in two other clubs, but no leadership positions in band all 4 years, and marching band volunteering at hospital this summer job at school library summer internship at local chamber of commerce no awards or honors (except for CSF) I will do my best to write an impressive personal statement =) so what do you think are my chances, like for UC Berkeley or University of Chicago? I know they're pretty ambitious goals but just curious :) thank you ^_^
How will this effect her coginitive development? By Lindsey Tanner, Associated Press CHICAGO — In a case fraught with ethical questions, the parents of a severely mentally and physically disabled child have stunted her growth to keep their little "pillow angel" a manageable and more portable size. ON DEADLINE: Debate the case, read family's blog The bedridden 9-year-old girl had her uterus and breast tissue removed at a Seattle hospital and received large doses of hormones to halt her growth. She is now 4-foot-5; her parents say she would otherwise probably reach a normal 5-foot-6. The case has captured attention nationwide and abroad via the Internet, with some decrying the parents' actions as perverse and akin to eugenics. Some ethicists question the parents' claim that the drastic treatment will benefit their daughter and allow them to continue caring for her at home. University of Pennsylvania ethicist Art Caplan said the case is troubling and reflects "slippery slope" thinking among parents who believe "the way to deal with my kid with permanent behavioral problems is to put them into permanent childhood." Right or wrong, the couple's decision highlights a dilemma thousands of parents face in struggling to care for severely disabled children as they grow up. "This particular treatment, even if it's OK in this situation, and I think it probably is, is not a widespread solution and ignores the large social issues about caring for people with disabilities," Joel Frader, a doctor and medical ethicist at Chicago's Children's Memorial Hospital, said Thursday. "As a society, we do a pretty rotten job of helping caregivers provide what's necessary for these patients." The case involves a girl identified only as Ashley on a blog her parents created after her doctors wrote about her treatment in October's Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine. The journal did not disclose the parents' names or where they live; the couple do not identify themselves on their blog, either. Shortly after birth, Ashley had feeding problems and showed severe developmental delays. Her doctors diagnosed static encephalopathy, which means severe brain damage. They do not know what caused it. Her condition has left her in an infant state, unable to sit up, roll over, hold a toy or walk or talk. Her parents say she will never get better. She is alert, startles easily, and smiles, but does not maintain eye contact, according to her parents, who call the brown-haired little girl their "pillow angel." She goes to school for disabled children, but her parents care for her at home and say they have been unable to find suitable outside help. An editorial in the medical journal called "the Ashley treatment" ill-advised and questioned whether it will even work. But her parents say it has succeeded so far. She had surgery in July 2004 and recently completed the hormone treatment. She weighs about 65 pounds, and is about 13 inches shorter and 50 pounds lighter than she would be as an adult, according to her parents' blog. "Ashley's smaller and lighter size makes it more possible to include her in the typical family life and activities that provide her with needed comfort, closeness, security and love: meal time, car trips, touch, snuggles, etc.," her parents wrote. Also, Ashley's parents say keeping her small will reduce the risk of bedsores and other conditions that can afflict bedridden patients. In addition, they say preventing her from going through puberty means she won't experience the discomfort of periods or grow breasts that might develop breast cancer, which runs in the family. "Even though caring for Ashley involves hard and continual work, she is a blessing and not a burden," her parents say. Still, they write, "Unless you are living the experience ... you have no clue what it is like to be the bedridden child or their caregivers." Caplan questioned how preventing normal growth could benefit the patient. Treatment that is not for a patient's direct benefit "only seems wrong to me," the ethicist said. Douglas Diekema, a doctor and ethicist at Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center in Seattle, where Ashley was treated, said he met with the parents and became convinced they were motivated by love and the girl's best interests. Diekema said he was mainly concerned with making sure the little girl would actually benefit and not suffer any harm from the treatment. She did not, and is doing well, he said. "The more her parents can be touching her and caring for her ... and involving her in family activities, the better for her," he said. "The parents' argument was, 'If she's smaller and lighter, we will be able to do that for a longer period of time.'" Copyright 2007 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. Are atheist doctors more compassionate that religious one? http://pressesc.com/news/80931072007/atheist-doctors-more-likely-care-poor-religious-ones Researchers from the University of Chicago and Yale New Haven Hospital report that 31 percent of physicians who were more religious—as measured by "intrinsic religiosity" as well as frequency of attendance at religious services—practiced among the underserved, compared to 35 percent of physicians who described their religion as atheist, agnostic or none. "This came as both a surprise and a disappointment," study author Farr Curlin, MD, said. "The Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu and Buddhist scriptures all urge physicians to care for the poor, and the great majority of religious physicians describe their practice of medicine as a calling. Yet we found that religious physicians were not more likely to report practice among the underserved than their secular colleagues." Where in the heck do they get their morality from if not religion??
Premedical universities? I'm planning to go pre-med in college-- university of chicago, johns hopkins, and ucla all have great programs-- can anyone suggest any other schools with strong pre-med programs and linked medical school/ hospitals? thank you!
What are practical suggestions for getting into these selective universities? I'm a white, male, high school sophomore in New Hampshire, but I'm already looking into the college process. Given the following: -4.0 GPA (3.98 cumulative) UNWEIGHTED (4.4 to 4.5 WEIGHTED) -7 courses EVERY year (maximum) -3-4 honors courses EVERY year -1920 PSAT -640 Biology SAT, but a 5 AP Biology -Three Varsity Sports (Freshman Year: 1 Varsity, 1 JV) -Member of Class Committee I would just like to know what plan of action would be most beneficial to me in terms of: 1. Raising SAT/ACT score 2. Taking more SAT Subject Tests/AP exams 3. Community Service (I'm volunteering at a hospital this summer) 4. Clubs (more than being in "Class Committee") 5. Extracurricular activities in general (I'm going to Spain for 6 weeks for a Spanish language program) if I'm going to apply to (potentially) "reach" schools such as: 1. Stanford University 2. Columbia University 3. Cornell University 4. University of Chicago 5. Johns Hopkins University 6. Duke University 7. UCLA/UC Berkeley Thanks! I just used those schools as an example. I do have fun, but it's my nature to get overly/unnecessarily anxious about things. I work hard in school, so my grades are fine; I just don't do well on standardized tests. I just wanted to know if I should be doing more extracurricular activities and know if they're worth it or not, considering my other credentials. I plan to study for the SAT over the summer. Thanks, though.
Top 25 universities? Hey, I was wondering if anyone knows info in the top 25 school in the country, and I am a sophmore. I want to Persue Medicine and want to go to Medical School. What is required to get accepted. Currently, my GPA is around 4.2, and I am/will be taking AP Courses. Also, I was wondering about getting accepted into University of Chicago or Northwestern University. I've taken courses like Honor Chem, and Honor Physics along with Honors/AP English and AP social studies classes. I've also participated in activies/sports such as tennis, and have volunteered at the local hospital.
has anyone heard of this??? Obama Earmarks $1 Million for Wife's Hospitalþ By: Jim Meyers Presidential hopeful Barack Obama has released a list of $740 million in earmark requests he made in the past three years, and it includes $1 million for the hospital where his wife Michelle is a vice president. The request for $1 million for the University of Chicago Medical Center was to help pay for construction of a new pavilion. “I can tell you with 100 percent certainty that Michelle Obama was not part of our lobbying over the request, not in any way,” Kelly Sullivan, another vice president at the medical center, told the New York Times. In any case, the 2006 request for the hospital was not approved by the Senate, as was about $7 out of every $10 the Illinois senator asked for in earmarks. Bud he did manage to secure $1.3 million for a high-explosive technology program for the Army’s Bradley Fighting Vehicle. The program was overseen by General Dynamics, and one of Obama’s top supporters, James Crown — a mem what are your thoughts?
