What kind of pre-employment drug tests do New York hospitals use? I know that the most common method used for drug screening is a urine test, but I know there are also places that do hair and blood tests instead. Which test would be more likely to be administered to someone applying for an employment position that is clinical-oriented at a NYC hospital? Thanks for the help!

Thanks (btw, New York Presbyterian would be really good)

Physicians/Surgeons in New York hospitals most often NOT hospital employees? I've found a much lower cost health insurance policy through a major provider ($150 vs $500 currently for myself) which covers hospital and ER costs only. Customer rep told me that only doctors, surgeons, etc of any given hospital in New York (my state) are most often NOT employees of hospital in which they work, and would thus not be covered by this policy. Thus, only physicians, etc who are employees of a given hospital and provide medical care to me would be covered under the policy. Is this true? This would seem very limiting, and would make it necessary for me to check in advance with my local hospitals to see if doctors/surgeons are employees of the hospitals.

New York City Hospitals? What are some hospitals in the more residential areas of NYC? Preferably one near the worse parts. By more residential, i'm basically just excluding everything in downtown manhattan and times square. and if you could, please include where the hospital is.
New York is banning baby formula in city hospitals, what do you think? I agree that breast milk is best. But not all mothers can breast feed. No one in my family has been able to. And nutritionally deficient or drug addicted mothers should not breast feed. Are they supposed to bring their own formula? I think this is the ultimate infringement on women's rights. I actually only heard what was on the Today show. Thanks for the link, I will read the article.
Do New York City Hospitals actually have apartments for rent for their employees? I read an article that talked about an RN moving with her husband in NYC and it read (here:http://finance.yahoo.com/real-estate/article/105683/Affordable-Housing-Exists,-If-You-Know-Where-to-Look) that they were living in an apartment being rented to them by the hospital she worked at. I'm going to be getting my RN in the next year or two and I wanted to see if this is legit, do some of the hospitals in the area own properties that they basically sublease or rent to employees? It makes me wanna move in a heart beat once I've got my license and experience. Any ideas?

What is the statue of limitation for suing a hospital in New York? I broke my ankle in 1994 and was placed in a cast by an intern, instead of having surgery, where I would have had pins and screws. My ankle has caused me nothing but pain ever since. I have had all kinds of therapy and finally in 2007 I had to have surgery. My foot is still not fixed, I am wondering if I can sue the hospital, who did not take the correction action in the beginning

New York Hospital Records: How can patient request, what can I request, what rights do I have? Why do NY hospitals make it so difficult for patients to get patient's own records? Is there a way to get a summary after each doctors visit? How long does a hospital have to legally keep patients records before they are destroyed or stored forever with no access by patient? A hospital tried to charge me over $400 for my own patient records. Is this legal? They are charging .75 cents per copy. Also, when I request patient records how long do I have to wait before the hospital must provide the records? Thanks.

Am I required to pay the New York State surcharge on medical bills? I have had many medical bills over the last several years. I have an HMO, and my insurance has paid at the contracted rate, and I have paid my copay, which is $75 for emergency room visits, $100 for hospitalizations and surgery. Only two times out of the many times have I been charged the New York State surcharge: once on my actual $75.00 copay (even though I've been to the same hospital seven other times and never had this added on to my emergency room copay) currently on a bill that was paid at the contracted rate, and now the hospital is trying to charge me almost 10 grand plus the new york state surcharge of about 850 bucks. This does not seem right to me. Anyone know where I can find this information or do you know how this is supposed to work? Thanks!
International Student looking for work in New York? I want to spend a few months in New York studying for my Emergency Medical Technicians qualification. I would however need a job to support me. How easy is it for an international student from the UK to find work in New York? I don't require much money, just enough to take care of my basic living needs. I'm probably thinking about working as a low level postion at hospital, perhaps in basic nursing or maybe in customer service, retail or at a restaurant as a waitor. In fact, I'm open to ideas.

I want to intern or volunteer somewhere in the medical/science fields this summer in New York city/ NJ area? I am going to be a junior next year and I am very interested in science. If anyone knows a lab or some kind of medical foundation or hospital that I could help out in, in the New York city- northern New Jersey area, that would be great. Anywhere else is great too as long as the program/ opportunity is expensive. Also, I would love to work anywhere where I could actually be productive and not just simply be an assistant. In addition, International programs would be amazing, again, if they're not too pricey. I am pretty good at French, I speak Dutch adn Hebrew, and can understand German. I hope you guys have some suggestions!!! Thank you so much!

Who thinks New York City is a beautiful and a wonderful place to live? Regarding facilities (hospitals, schools, universities, restaurants, entertainment), I don' think there's a city in this world that can surpass NYC. But is living permanently in NYC that great? If not, after how much time will a person get bored and which to relocate? Generally speaking of course.
What to do if uninsured and pregnant in New York? My sister has an ok job with a nonprofit organization that doesn't offer health insurance, and her husband is in retail with the same situation. She doesn't qualify for Healthy NewYork because of her income (it's too high), but once she has the baby, he/she will get coverage. Does she have to just suck up her medical costs, or are there other options? How have other mothers paid for their prenatal visits and hospital costs without insurance?
How do I find out what a fair and usuary rate for an anaestesiologist in New York City is? I am being balance billed $1800 for an anaestesiologist charge for nasal surgery. The doctor and hospital were in network, and they were supposed to accept and provide network rates. After a $913 payment from my insurance, they are billing me $1800. This seems to be an inflated rate since they are not in my network. ANy information on this would be helpful. Thank You
New York hosptials banning bottles? The New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation (HHC) announced that its 11 public hospitals will exclude free baby formula samples from gift bags to new mothers, will ban formula promotion materials from labor and delivery units and will encourage initiation of breastfeeding in the baby’s first hour as part of a campaign to increase exclusive breastfeeding and improve infant health. Do you think it's right for them to do that?
