Ohio Governor imposing franchise fees on hospitals. But how is this keeping health care affordable? or are Democrats just playing shell games with OUR money? we are talking MILLIONS. The franchise fees will help the state budget, since the governor's campaign promise was "no new taxes". The fees are 'supposed' to be offset two years from now from higher medicaid reimbursements. Yet, i thought the 'average joe' with health insurance paid extra to cover the patients who use medicaid. It is all very confusing. Why would a state impose fees on a hospital just to help the state budget? and why is the federal government strangely silent and allow this to continue? and how in the heck is this going to keep health care affordable ???? http://www.ohio.com/business/78035997.html http://blog.cleveland.com/medical/2009/03/northeast_ohio_hospitals_say_p.html
Where can I get medical attention in NE Ohio without health insurance? I really need to go to the doctor or hospital to have tests done, but I don't have health insurance. I'm 25 years old and am currently between jobs. Where can I go in Northeast Ohio for affordable health care? Is there a low cost insurance program out there for someone in my situation? Also, is there anywhere I can go to have low cost testing done without a referral? Any advice or information would be greatly appreciated.
Who do I contact if I want to donate my daughters cord blood after the delivery? I live in Columbus, Ohio and apparently none of the Ohio Health hospitals have cord blood donation available. I talked to the labor and delivery unit and they told me they don't have the kits to do this. Can I get a kit from a cord blood bank and send it myself? I can't afford to bank her cord blood for private use, but recent illnesses in my family have me motivated me to donate and help another person's child.
Why did Hillary claim that an uninsured pregnant woman died in Ohio after being denied health care? NEW YORK TIMES April 5, 2008 Over the last five weeks, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York has featured in her campaign stump speeches the story of a health care horror: an uninsured pregnant woman who lost her baby and died herself after being denied care by an Ohio hospital because she could not come up with a $100 fee. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/05/us/politics/05woman.html?ei=5087&em=&en=76d7527aa43f0f01&ex=1207627200&adxnnl=1&adxnnlx=1207591717-qduzb9ejYKI6cwyRqHLxuw just plain jim (below) {hi} Stuff happens isn't a good answer. For someone running for the highest office in the nation, "stuff" seems to happen on a pretty frequent basis. just plain jim (below) {hi} I do not agree with public servants (Congress) receiving better coverage than those that pay their saleries (us). As a former Civil Servant myself, I too had the best health coverage money could afford.
Veterans Adm. Hospitals in north east Ohio? Korean War Vet.. Sufffering with COPD and will nead Hospital care in time. Private health care provider continues to cut back. Pregnant in Ohio but our health insurance doesn't have any maternity coverage- what do I do? I just found out I'm 4 weeks pregnant and that my insurance will not cover ANYTHING related to my pregnancy unless there are complications. My husband and I make approximately $64,000 a year so we do not qualify for Medicaid. We have insurance so we don't qualify for the Ohio high risk pool even though our insurance doesn't cover my pregnancy. I called Riverside (the nearest hospital) and they said that a normal birth would cost $12,000 and that doesn't count any doctors visits, ultrasounds or pain medicines. While my husband and I make decent money, we just started these jobs and I don't want to start off life with a baby with a HUGE debt. What suggestions do you have? Financial aid, clinics, etc.

Please help me choose the right health insurance? I am in the process of choosing a health insurance plan at work. These two options are what I am considering: Anthem POS High Option - $42.00 Aetna HMO - Ohio(EPO) - $36.00 The HMO seems to have better benefits (100% coverage after $250 copayment vs 90$ coverage after $250 copayment for hospital coverage, 100% coinsurance percentage vs 90%, both have no annual deductible for in-network). The HMO option also has no annual out of pocket maximum while the POS high potion has a $1200 annual OOP maximum. Why is it that the HMO seems to have better options but costs less than the POS high option?
Why did Hillary lie about a health care horror involving an uninsured pregnant woman? Over the last five weeks, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York has featured in her campaign stump speeches the story of a health care horror: an uninsured pregnant woman who lost her baby and died herself after being denied care by an Ohio hospital because she could not come up with a $100 fee. The woman, Trina Bachtel, did die last August, two weeks after her baby boy was stillborn at O'Bleness Memorial Hospital in Athens, Ohio. But hospital administrators said Friday that Ms. Bachtel was under the care of an obstetrics practice affiliated with the hospital, that she was never refused treatment and that she was, in fact, insured.[...] There is no end to Hillary's lies... Old or not, it shows a pattern of a dishonest woman who wants to be our Next President... There will be Blood ...... Thats right Amanda: Push aside Hillary's lie and focus on the real issue. Not the fact this LIAR wants to become our President. Nooo..thats not important..
Will people on disability and medicaid have to? pay medical costs or a percentage of hospital bills. I only get $674 a month I really can't afford any added bills. They already shut down the mental health hospital down nearest to me, I'll now have to go all the way to Dayton to go to the hospital if I have a relapse or something when before the hospital was only two towns over. It was shut down because of funding cuts in Ohio as far as I know

Cleveland Clinic and Health Insurance? I am unemployed and I am 32 years old. I see a doctor in Cleveland clinic and have an appointment next week. I do not have insurance anymore. Can I go to see the doctor again and get use of the Ohio Hospital Assurance Program (HCAP). The program states that in Cleveland Clinic for a family of size 2 the income should be more than $54,760 program (since the HCAP Federal Poverty Income Level is $13,690) to receive the assistance. How much is the assistance, are they paying 100% of the expenses or less. I wanted to see if anyone had similar experience in the past and what are your thoughts.

If you are from Ohio, do you support the following proposed constitutional amendment, why or why not? Amendment Title: "To preserve the freedom of Ohioans to choose their health care and health care coverage. Full Text of Amendment: Be it resolved by the people of the State of Ohio that Article I, Section 21 of the Ohio Constitution be adopted and read as follows: ARTICLE I Preservation of the freedom to choose health care and health care coverage Section 21 (A) No federal, state, or local law or rule shall compel, directly or indirectly, any person, employer, or health care provider to participate in a health care system. Section 21 (B) No federal, state, or local law or rule shall prohibit the purchase or sale of health care or health insurance. Section 21 (C) No federal, state, or local law or rule shall impose a penalty or fine for the sale or purchase of health care or health insurance. Section 21 (D) This section does not affect laws or rules in effect as of March 19, 2010; affect which services a health care provider or hospital is required to perform or provide; affect terms and conditions of government employment; or affect any laws calculated to deter fraud or punish wrongdoing in the health care industry. Section 21 (E) As used in this Section, (1) “Compel” includes the levying of penalties or fines. (2) “Health care system” means any public or private entity or program whose function or purpose includes the management of, processing of, enrollment of individuals for, or payment for, in full or in part, health care services, health care data, or health care information for its participants. (3) “Penalty or fine” means any civil or criminal penalty or fine, tax, salary or wage withholding or surcharge or any named fee established by law or rule by a government established, created, or controlled agency that is used to punish or discourage the exercise of rights protected under this section. Lordpercywooster - First of all this is not legislation, it is a Constitutional Amendment. There is a difference. Second, you're correct there is no current law to fine anyone yet, this amendment would be to prevent it in the future. Third, Federal Law does not necessarily trump State Law, the States are only bound by the U.S. Constitution in which there is no provision that requires their adherence to the U.S. Code. Fourth, I did not know that Fox was reporting on this. You need facts, not ignorant assumptions.
What are the safest cities in Ohio with the best (and highest ranking) schools? My husband and I are planning to relocate closer to Cincinnati Ohio because of the hospital there. We want to be within an hour (2 tops) of the city because of my daughters health. We are looking for homes in the surrounding areas. Because we really know very little about Ohio (other than the wonderful hospital) we are trying to enlist some outside help. We want a town/city that is safe - as safe as you possibly can get. Close to shopping, grocery, etc. Wonderful schools with special education programs. A very community oriented type of place. I am not sure where to look so if you are not from a city such as that in Ohio but have an idea where I could find this information I would appreciate it. Some home specifications would be - $200,000 or lower At LEAST an acre of land. More would be better. Near water (but not a must), parks nearby (hopefully within walking distance)... I think that is it... Really the safety of the city and the schools are the only deal breakers. I do hope someone can help me on this one!
More TALL TALES from Hillary! Is it possible she can't stop herself from "mis-speaking"? Hillary has lately been telling a tale about a pregnant woman who was denied health care from an Ohio hospital because she did not have $100 the hospital demanded to treat her. After being turned away, the woman was brought back to the hospital days later with severe complications. She was rushed to another hospital for advanced treatment, but it was too late. The woman and her baby died, Clinton told her audiences. For Hillary, the story was proof that everyone should have universal health care. It's a powerful tale and always draws gasps from the audience. The hospital in Ohio, however, objected this weekend, and says nothing like this ever happened. They are now demanding that Hillary stop telling this lie. Considering Hillary has already made the term "mis-spoke" about as famous as "wardrobe malfunction" was a couple of years ago, would you conclude that Hillary Clinton is perhaps a compulsive liar?
Can I be held longer than 72 hrs in the behavior clinic at my local hospital if I had checked myself in? I have checked myself into the mental health/ behavior section of a local hospital because I hurt myself and I know that they can hold me for 72 hrs. Because I checked myself in can they still hold me for more than the 72 hr period? During this time I have scheduled an appointment for a psychiatrist and two councellors and Im receiving medication for nerves and depression. Im unsure how the laws are here in Ohio do I need more than the doctors ok?

how does massage therapy work for so may mental health issues? Here are the claims Massage should be done to babies, children and adults and much soothing would take place were this in place without need for drugs, sedatives alcohol or other stimulants. if only this would go into every would be mums repertoire of dealing with their children. The results I am sure would be impressive. Various combinations of oils for massage can be used however I have only experience with using the oils of peanut /olive and almond and I am sure there are many others which are of real benefit too. Also very good results have been obtained using tincture of myrrh. Research in massage therapy has been ongoing for more than 120 years. Here are some reported benefits of massage: Preliminary results suggested cancer patients had less pain and anxiety after receiving therapeutic massage at the James Cancer Hospital and Research Institute in Columbus, Ohio. Women who had experienced the recent death of a child were less depressed after receiving therapeutic massage, according to preliminary results of a study at the University of South Carolina. Medical school students at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-New Jersey Medical School who were massaged before an exam showed a significant decrease in anxiety and respiratory rates as well as a significant increase in white blood cells and natural killer cell activity, suggesting a benefit to the immune system Studies funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) have found massage beneficial in improving weight gain in HIV-exposed infants and facilitating recovery in patients who underwent abdominal surgery. At the University of Miami School of Medicine's Touch Research Institute, researchers have found that massage is helpful in decreasing blood pressure in people with hypertension, alleviating pain in migraine sufferers and improving alertness and performance in office workers. An increasing number of research studies show massage reduces heart rate, lowers blood pressure, increases blood circulation and lymph flow, relaxes muscles, improves range of motion, and increases endorphins (enhancing medical treatment). Although therapeutic massage does not increase muscle strength, it can stimulate weak, inactive muscles and, thus, partially compensate for the lack of exercise and inactivity resulting from illness or injury. It also can hasten and lead to a more complete recovery from exercise or injury. Research has verified that: Office workers massaged regularly were more alert, performed better and were less stressed than those who weren't massaged. Massage therapy decreased the effects of anxiety, tension, depression, pain, and itching in burn patients. Abdominal surgery patients recovered more quickly after massage. Premature infants who were massaged gained more weight and fared better than those who weren't. Autistic children showed less erratic behaviour after massage therapy. According AMTA, massage helps both physically and mentally. " The preterm babies who received massage therapy showed 47% greater weight gain and six-day shorter hospital stays than the infants who were not receiving massage. But is this study evidence of what loving touch can do spiritually, or rather what massage can do on a physiological level? Should the state resuscitate a death row inmate who attempts suicide? Convicted murdered Lawrence Reynolds lies in hospital, unawake after he overdosed . He has until Tuesday before Ohio state officials carry out his death sentence. In the meantime,he is being nursed back to health. What is your opinion on this? Why waste tax dollars to keep him alive and then execute him? Thanks. X Sarah

When Obama championed for Natoma Canfield healthcare, was he aware she was eligible for Medicade? CLEVELAND (AP) - A woman championed as the Obama administration's emblem for health care reform does not have to choose between her home and her health, according to officials at the Ohio hospital where she is being treated. With a self-reported annual income of about $6,000, Natoma Canfield is a prime candidate for financial aid in the form of Medicaid—the federal health care program for low-income and disabled people—or charitable assistance http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D9EG06182&show_article=1 http://www.wibc.com/news/article.aspx?id=2081109 http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/2795218/in_act_of_desperation_obama_exploits.html

Have you ever wondered what happened here in Ohio nov 2nd 2004? Read what I just wrote that got me crying? in the retelling of it..I answered a question and this was the answers and I thought it was worth asking people what they think of what I have writtten. It is time consuming to read , but It think worthwhile... If you want to read about the voters I met on Nov 2nd 2004 in the rain, in lines up to 13 hours, risking health and job loss to vote, then you will read this. Every American should read this. Just in the retelling of it, I found my eyes fill with tears. It is first hand knowledge of what happened here in Ohio in 2004 by a voting rights advocate. Many do not vote because they do not think their vote is counted. Currently over 75% of democrats, 50% of independents, and 25% of Republicans believe this. Much of this is because of the massive vote fraud in 2000 and especially here in Ohio.. WE TRIED HERE IN OHIO..there were record turnouts...We took to the streets in record numbers and registered 10 times more democrats than republicans..I spoke to people as I worked the polls who had never voted or never voted for 15 or 20 years who turned out. As fast as we could register them Blackwell, our Katherine Harris secretary of state and co chair of the reelect Bush campaign, was ordering boards of elections (BOE) to throw away those registrations..for being on the wrong weight of paper, etc . While our Franklin County (Columbus, Ohio) head of the BOE and former head of the franklin county republican party was colluding to take away many machines in all the democratic areas and add more to the republican areas and hiding over 75 machines in storage while machines were breaking and one precinct had zero machines working, we turned out in numbers they’d never seen before. We waited in lines up to 13 hours to vote..in the freezing rain with winds so strong they blew up umbrella inside out repeatedly and blew away my chair.. We handed out free food and trashbags and drinks and brought chairs..We encouraged each other to wait in line despite angry bosses, crying kids, and saw elderly people showing up with IVs from the hospital and older people on chemotherapy waiting in line three hours and passing out and not getting to vote, People were passing out literally. Kids were crying from hunger and boredom. We saw our young working the streets and participating and our old suffering in 5 hour lines... We saw the poor and minorities, who had so much to lose voting and working hard and breaking all the stereotypes, we saw the patriot poor and minorities and college students have their votes suppressed and witnessed their votes not counting. We saw crying people forced to leave the lines or lose their job or to pick up their kids who didn't get to vote after waiting three hours. We saw people like myself, a disabled women on her feet 15 hours the night before , campaigning and waiting outside helping and handing out literature all day and night in the freezing rain and wind. We saw the same people standing outside in freezing winter of 04 and early 05 in winds 50 MPH shivering and protesting our stolen election and the mass voter suppression and the machines that are so insecure. These are Americans..these are patriots. These are the finest people you could ever meet. These are Americans patriots....who I am so proud of. We saw people wait in line 2 hours, be told them were in the wrong line or precinct go and wait 2 hours again or be purged from the roles after living in the same house 50 years (Like Amos Caley), We saw people being sent to three precincts and still having to vote provisional. We saw thousands leave the lines without voting due to parenting and work commitments. We saw people show up angry and crying at voter hearings after the election. I see every week people in Ohio still fighting to fix the vote..just two days ago Bev Harris of blackboxvoting came to our city and next week we are having a 3 day vote fraud conference. We continue to work hard, offering our time and talents to this issue. You here about and think about the apathetic, but do not forget those who do care..there are far more of them than it seems. I saw the heart and soul of America that Nov 2nd 2004 be deprived and stolen of the right to vote..the right won by the blood of others. The fight our troops have died for. And it all makes me very angry. How many of these people will never vote again because of what happened? And that’s just fine with those pulling the strings and stealing the elections...just makes it that much easier to steal the elections covertly. See the film coming to HBO "hacking Democracy" Nov 2nd. Go to freepress.org and read the election section here at ground zero http://www.wakeupandsaveyourcountry.com/... __just came out comic of what happened here..I am in the book even..see the links http://freepress.org/images/departments/... http://freepress.org/images/departments/... Read the actual transcript from the voters in Ohio and the poll workers as to what they experienced that day..I was there too...fascinating and known to just a few..these people led to the 2nd ever historic election challenge in US congress in 228 years on Jan. 6TH...REALLY INTERESTING STUFF..I was in DC too on that historic day–on the winter freedom bus from Ohio to Washington. We stood with all races, religions, and with representatives of all states.. Research and call your congressmen and ask them to cosign and support the new amendment Dennis Kucinich just made HB 6200 to conduct all presential elections on hand counted at the precinct paper ballots..this is the only way top restore our democrcy and voter confidence. We should not have 80% of the vote being counted by partisa companies donating hundred s of thousands of dollars to reelect Bush and keeping their sourcecode and software secret. Just writing about what I experienced and witnerssing what we did to these voters makes me cry for them and for all the blood slipped in vain. Sorry links did not work http://www.wakeupandsaveyourcountry.com/cheated.htm http://freepress.org/images/departments/4254PublicHearing.txt http://freepress.org/images/departments/4263PublicHearing.txt EDIT to last poster MUSE Obviously you don't read..the Columbus dispatch had numberous articles on the lines, the problems reported with machines like Gahanna, Ohio getting 4000 more vote (for Bush) than they were voters, and working machines held in storage. If you had no lines, you were appently from a suburb, rural, weathy area, not black, not a stuent, and not poor. Repubulicans cannot change history this time we have cameras of the lines..and the voter supprression (I am not even getting into the 57,000 voting irregularites reported acroos the country). Here is a video of some of the many lines. http://video.yahoo.com/video/play?ei=UTF-8&p=video+the+vote&b=0&oid=be67c613fc9339e0&rurl=www.michaelmoore.com&vdone=http%3A%2F%2Fvideo.yahoo.com%2Fsearch%2Fvideo%3Fei%3DUTF-8%26p%3Dvideo%2Bthe%2Bvote and go here to read the congressional report "what went wrong in Ohio" of things proven to have taken palce. Why do you think we had the historic electuion challenge in congress on Jan 6th, the 2nd in 228 years. go here and click on 5th hit for the official record at gov. It won't let me paste and copy the link http://search.yahoo.com/search?ei=utf-8&fr=slv8-msgr&p=john%20conyers%20what%20went%20wrong%20in%20ohio Evidence is everywhere...you just have to look. A place to start is in some of the links I gave and at and http://freepress.org/ http://fairnessbybeckerman.blogspot.com/ leogirl..you are a disgusting person..I won't stoop to calling you names like you called me, but one thing I am not is a liar and I experienced the long lines first hand, people I trust saw people fainting on chemo, people did show up with IV's from the hospital, testify under sworn oath etc, I also first hand witnessed people freezing proteasting, heard 500 sworn tstamonies tsaken by lawyers and used in the Moss v Bush lawsuit. It was reported in Ohio newspapers (the republican one all the "glitches like Gahanna getting 4000 more votes (for Bush) than there were voters, about Blackwell ordering all county BOE's to throw out voter registration if it wasn't on 40 weight paper (an law over 70 years old and never used), etc. It was reported on national TV early election morning (in the 2 am range that there were still voters in line in an Ohio liberal college. These things are all first hand and most have been reported although not widely repotrted. I waas there. I am, a Christian and I almost never lie and certainly am not lying. You, first poster woman, obviousdly did not read the post like most just skimming it seeing a liberal wrote it and instantly dismissing it..no wonder you guys are sheep.
SUPER low gpa, average ACT score, what are my chances of getting into Bowling Green State University in Ohio? Hi, my name is Jared and I'm a senior in high school, I live in Ohio. My gpa is super super super low, as of right now it's like a 2.3 something because I haven't been very good on schoolwork(Although I mostly get A's and B's on tests and quizzes, including every one so far this year). I've only taken the ACT once, didn't finish it but scored a 21 and I'm taking it again next month. My legal guardian is my grandmother, just me and her, who took care of me because my mom is really sick but my grandmother is extremely sick with several health problems, so I look after her when I can and I work a job so I fall behind on schoolwork a lot. I try to make the work up and I do a lot of volunteering and leadership programs, like United Way and community stuff and I volunteer at a hospital and my school with Yearbook, etc. I really like the school Bowling Green, I've visited and they have a lot of fun art programs I would love to get into and the people are friendly. In school I've had electives in Art, Photography, Creative Writing and Sociology, all of which I pass with A's every quarter. I don't think it matters but the census considers me Pacific Islander, since I am Tongan-American. What do you guys think my chances are of getting into a college like Bowling Green State University or any college for that matter? Thanks much.
Will we ever see more health clinics like this? Would removing government from more clinics help reduce cost? http://www.ohio.com/business/52028937.html [A recent survey found the list prices for five of the most commonly ordered tests range from $34 to $347 at area hospitals and major labs. Pioneer charges $14 to $32 for those same tests, according to the practice's Web site. ''We've kept our pricing down because we have self-pay patients and uninsured patients,'' practice manager Kathy Kostelnick said. ''It's one fee schedule for everybody. This is how we've been doing it all along.''] The clinic can do this because they do not take insurance or government payments. The costs are alot lower for everyone. Would this concept work nationwide? Would people be receptive to this? And bill their own insurance company for the bill?
I couldn't get all my community hours for Ohio Diversion and can't reach my case worker; what will happen?!? I got caught shoplifting from Kroger and got diversion last winter. They suggested that I try bell ringing but I was sick at the time and got sicker; I put off service while trying to find something close to the tiny, isolated place I lived. The only two places within walking distance didn't give me answers on background checks for months and by the time I moved to a larger city I could only get about twenty hours. I also haven't talked to my case worker for a very long time; the first time I called she was vey hostile and I thought I wasn't supposed to call her, that she was supposed to call me. But later she never did and as I realized I was messing up and unabIe to get l 60 hours didn't call her. Now it's a week passed six months and I have a way to get my hours and am finally healthy barely enough to do sevice. What will happen and what should I do? Should I get my hours and turn it in late, begging for consideration of my health (yes, quite serious. Multiple hospital stays and life long conditions that are still untreated)? Would they accept or let me start service over? Will I be fined more and go to jail? Please help. I have no money and no support.
Mental Hospital stay, and gun ownership? Hi, I am 25 years old now, but when I was 21, roughly 4 years ago, I voluntarily committed myself to a mental home for about a week. Some of the mental health hospital staff couldn't see why I was even there, and looking back, I realize that it was more of a cry for attention if anything. Yeah, I was going through a hard time in my life, but looking back on it now, there was so many different ways I could've gotten through that hard time in my life, besides committing myself to a mental home for a week. Here's where it pisses me off. About a year after my week stay at the mental home, I tried to become a cop, and would've been the perfect candidate. I'm in perfect shape physically, No criminal record, never been in trouble at all, perfect driving record, non smoker, non druggie, non drinker, damn near straight A student in high school, graduated with honors, I know, I was a goodie goodie, but despite all of this, the ONE thing stopping me was the fact that I stayed for one week at a mental hospital. Im not crazy, Im def not insane, and its been over 4 years since I committed myself. All my life, Ive kept my nose clean, and have nothing to show for it because I went in to a mental home for a week. There has got to be some kind of waiver or something that I can do to be able to own a gun and/or be a cop. I wish to own a gun for protection because I have a family now, and I deliver pizza in a not so great area of Ohio where armed robberies are an everyday thing. Any suggestions on what I can do legally. Even prisoners who rape children and commit murder get a second chance. Why not a good, no record law abiding citizen such as me??
Why didn't Hillary check out the facts before she spoke of this story? http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/05/us/politics/05woman.html?ex=1365134400 Over the last five weeks, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York has featured in her campaign stump speeches the story of a health care horror: an uninsured pregnant woman who lost her baby and died herself after being denied care by an Ohio hospital because she could not come up with a $100 fee.The woman, Trina Bachtel, did die last August, two weeks after her baby boy was stillborn at O’Bleness Memorial Hospital in Athens, Ohio. People from Trumbull County, Ohio ONLY!!!? From your own personal experience which hospital (either Trumbull Memorial or St. Joseph's Health) is better when delivering a baby? Include reasons, please. Which allows you to keep the baby in the room after delivery? (I know someone places don't allow it) Thanks. My ob/gyn said it was my call between the hospitals (since these are the ones that they suggested)
How can people think Clinton is trustworthy? Hillary Clinton said that she was not in favour of NAFTA but that was not true which was exposed after her first lady records were released. Hillary lied about a trip to Bosnia and it became a major uproar in the past. Hillary claimed that she played a crucial role in bringing normalcy in Northern Ireland even that proved to be false. enator Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York has featured in her campaign stump speeches the story of a health care horror: an uninsured pregnant woman who lost her baby and died herself after being denied care by an Ohio hospital because she could not come up with a $100 fee. ER doctor not in health insurance network and billed me. Went to ER per primary phys. request to rule out? a stroke. The hospital/er is in network. We got a bill from the ER doctor and EOB from insurance that says the doctor is not in network so his bill is mine to pay. How should I handle this...a letter to the doc? How is the patient to know what doctors in an ER accept their insurance and why was he allowed to treat without informing us that he doesn't accept our insurance and why is an ER doctor allowed to do this if he is working in a hospital that is in my network. This is med mutual and hosp is in OHIO The deductibles over. It ended up being an admission for brain cancer and the patient(my dad) died.

Private Health Information Lawsuit? I have filed a lawsuit againts the Hosipital, the employee, and my estranged spouse. My estranged spouse ask her friend that works at a local hospital to get her a copy of my medical records, which in turn my estranged wife is trying to use against me in the divorce and false criminal charge. Biddle V. Warren County General was upheld by the Ohio Supreme Court that patients do have the right to sue when information was released without authorization. There are several subsequent cases. However, it seems that most hosipitals settle before the case gets filed. The hosiptial did in writing confirm the HIPAA violation and terminated the employee and that emplyee confirmed that she did to at my estranged wifes request. Has anyone ever recieved a settlement here? If so how much? Thanks
punishment for smoking marijuana/possible health problems for a minor in USA? hi! i live in ohio, just so you know. here's the deal: my two friends (they're both thirteen) were caught with marijuana. i know, i know. don't criticize me for being friends with potheads. i didn't know, and they just made a mistake. anyway, one was taken away in a cop car. what could happen to him? the other was taken away in an ambulance. what could've happened to him? there's no way to contact them or anything, because obviously one is in the hospital/with the police by now and the other is with the police.. so they don't have phones. anyway, the point is, what might've happened, and what consequences will this have in the future? thank you! xx
High school senior who has decided to pursue a career in health and wants to go to top med school, pipe dream? So in my four years at a rough high school I have discovered myself. After doing tons of volunteer hours at a hospital and spending time helping out doctors, I have decided that I want to be a doctor. My high school GPA is a little bit on the low end right now due to me having a rough first two years of high school (blending into a magnet school setting and everything). My unweighted GPA is a 3.2 after having a great junior year at a very competitive magnet school and my SAT score is a 1940 (plan on raising it). I want to go to Johns Hopkins, UVA, Harvard, Yale, Dartmouth, Brown or Northwestern for med school. I have decided that I want to pursue a major in Biochemistry when I get to college. So far my college choices are Ohio State University University of Georgia (because of HOPE Scholarship) George Mason University Georgia Tech (kid last year got in with a 3.1 GPA) and UMass Amherst So here are my questions: 1. Is it possible to go to a top ranked med school (top 20) if you do great at a smaller name college (not an Ivy) and get the top MCAT score? 2. Would it be a wise decision for me to do my best the first two years at a smaller university and then transfer to a bigger name college (perhaps a top rank)? Eri, thanks that is what I plan on doing for transfer. Parents say they will be able to pay for my final two years of undergrad.
Anyone else out there having a hard time finding a job? I am ending my second semester at university soon and I have been looking for jobs for this summer for the past month. I have applied for numerous positions including two Kohls stores, three nursing homes, various positions at two separate Toy's R Us stores, a rehab clinic, Petco, two restaurants, a retirement home and I also applied for an internship as a speech pathologist assistant at a local center for children with disabilities. So far no one has called me back for an interview, and I got turned down for one of the four jobs I applied for at Toys R' Us without even a call-in for an interview. It is funny because most of these positions being advertised have been open since December and they don't even want to call me in for an interview. And I have previous work experience in retail, landscaping, customer service, and in hospital/ health care settings so I can't fathom why they won't even interview me. I even looked over and revised my resume and got more recommendation letters to boost my chances. I have become obsessed with finding a job that I check online everyday for new listings. I got so desperate last summer I had to travel to Ohio to work for a family member to make some money for college. If worse comes to worse I will just volunteer at my church and hospital again and look up more scholarships and grants to help me with my fees, undergrad tuition, and for grad school. Has anyone else had similar troubles finding a job with this terrible economy?

Clearing things up with the swine flu? Is it true that the swine flu has been man made? I mean its a combination of bird-swine-man, and it just suddenly appeared this month during a non-flu season. they said its no different from the regular flu. And those who died in Mexico, they said the reason why they died is because the people didn't have enough money to go to the hospital? "Mexico's health minister says the disease has killed up to 86 people and likely sickened up to 1,400 since April 13. U.S. officials say the virus has been found in New York, California, Texas, Kansas and Ohio, but no fatalities have been reported."
What is life like in Phoenix Arizona? Hey Guys, I'm looking for people from the Phoenix, Arizona area to answer some questions I have about how they like living in Phoenix. I have a shot at a really good job offer in Phoenix, but I am kind of on the fence about it, because I live in Ohio now and it would involve quite a relocation. Here is what I want to know about specifically: 1. In general, is it safe in Phoenix? I realize that Phoenix is a huge city, and all big cities have a certain amount of crime, but how would you rate the crime? Is a person able to go about their daily business for the most part without feeling like they are going to be mugged by a gang? 2. I have heard from various sources that the nearby town of Mesa is VERY corrupt, with a police force that arrests random innocent people and charges them with bogus crimes. Is this true? 3. How much, on average, can a family of 3 expect to spend on groceries? Here in Ohio, we usually spend about $150 per week, and we have more than enough to eat for the week. 4. What is the health care system like? Does Phoenix have good hospitals that provide good quality care? This is my main complaint where I live now. We have to drive 45 minutes to find a hospital that will do their job. 5. What is the public assistance system like? Do you have to be an illegal immigrant with 5 kids by all different fathers to get any kind of help, or can the average person experiencing hard times get help? What about disability? One of the people that might be moving to Phoenix with me has MS and can't work because of a doctor's order. Would her benefits stay the same, increase, or decrease? 6. I looked around online and I think I found an apartment complex that looks nice, and I think if I do move to Phoenix, I want to live there. Does anybody know about this complex? It's called Fountains in the Green, and it's on 14th Street in Phoenix, in the 85014 Zip Code. Is this a nice place to live, or should I look around some more for a different place to live? Thank you in advance to everyone who answers these questions for me.

Should the government legislate the size and shape of a hot dog? Yes this is a serious question believe it or not. ****************************************************************** Pediatricians call for a choke-proof hot dog Nutritionists have long warned of the perils of hot dogs: fat, sodium and preservatives to name a few. Now, the American Academy of Pediatrics wants foods like hot dogs to come with a warning label — not because of their nutritional risks but because they pose a choking hazard to babies and children. Better yet, the academy would like to see foods such as hot dogs "redesigned" so their size, shape and texture make them less likely to lodge in a youngster's throat. More than 10,000 children under 14 go to the emergency room each year after choking on food, and up to 77 die, says the new policy statement, published online today in Pediatrics. About 17% of food-related asphyxiations are caused by hot dogs. "If you were to take the best engineers in the world and try to design the perfect plug for a child's airway, it would be a hot dog," says statement author Gary Smith, director of the Center for Injury Research and Policy at Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. "I'm a pediatric emergency doctor, and to try to get them out once they're wedged in, it's almost impossible." The Consumer Product Safety Commission requires labels on toys with small parts alerting people not to give them to kids under 3. Yet there are no required warnings on food, though more than half of non-fatal choking episodes involve food, Smith says. "No parents can watch all of their kids 100% of the time," Smith says. "The best way to protect kids is to design these risks out of existence." Though Smith says he doesn't know exactly how someone would redesign a hot dog, he's certain that some savvy inventor will find a way. Janet Riley, president of the National Hot Dog & Sausage Council, supports the academy's call to better educate parents and caregivers about choking prevention. "Ensuring the safety of the foods we service to children is critically important for us," Riley says. But Riley questions whether warning labels are needed. She notes that more than half of hot dogs sold in stores already have choking-prevention tips on their packages, advising parents to cut them into small pieces. "As a mother who has fed toddlers cylindrical foods like grapes, bananas, hot dogs and carrots, I 'redesigned' them in my kitchen by cutting them with a paring knife until my children were old enough to manage on their own," Riley says. The Food and Drug Administration, which has authority to recall products it considers "unfit for food," plans to review the new statement, spokeswoman Rita Chappelle says. Given the health risks of obesity, pediatrician Alan Greene, author of Feeding Baby Green, says, "The last thing we need is to redesign candy and junk food with cool shapes, so we can give them to kids even younger." http://www.usatoday.com/news/health/2010-02-22-1Achoke22_ST_N.htm
Why do mainstream medicine apologists attack colloidal silver? Prior to the advent of patentable and more profitable antibiotics, medicines containing silver were the most widely prescribed infection fighters by doctors and there were no fewer than 34 different approved prescription and over the counter medications with silver particles. Now, after improved and nano-technology, and the elimination of most large particle and silver nitrate products, colloidal silver proponents claim that it is safer and more effective than ever. At the same time, however, it has been the subject of increasing attacks as a scam, quackery and/or dangerous by mainstream medicine and the bloggers and apologists who oppose alternatives to non-approved medicines. When it is pointed out that colloidal and nano-silver is used by NASA, Potters for Peace, the Hong Kong Subway System, Cure-Aid, and major hospital burn units, the detractors say yes, perhaps it works externally, but when taken internally it causes dangerous toxicity due to silver build-up, causes people to turn blue, and, in a familiar refrain, claim that it has no "scientifically" proven benefits. Yet, the EPA says that 90-95% of ingested silver particles are eliminated from the body within two days and 99% within a week, and the bluest of the blue people, "Papa Smurf" Paul Karason (who, like the Montana senator, actually took large quantities of home-made silver made with tap water and contaminated with salt for a prolonged period of many months) was given a clean bill of health at Mount Sinai Hospital. Insofar as scientific studies, last year it was reported that researchers in Hungary found specific silver receptors on human tissue - an indication that silver plays an important role in human health. A joint study between the University of Texas and Mexico University published in the Journal of Nanotechnology which showed that silver nanoparticles of sizes 1-10nm attached to HIV-1 and prevented the virus from bonding to host cells. A study conducted by the Department of Microbiology at Kyungpook National University in Daegu, Korea, and published in the prestigious Journal of Microbiology and Biotechnology, found that nano-silver was comparable in effectiveness to Amphotericin B, one of the most powerful prescription antifungal drugs known to man, which is often used intravenously to cure serious systemic fungal infections, and was found to be superior to the well-known anti-fungal drug fluconazole (popularly known as Diflucan). And then there is the recently completed study conducted by researchers from the Washington University School of Medicine and the University of Akron, Ohio, and presented at the 105th International Conference of the American Thoracic Society, where researchers infected a group of mice with the bacteria Pseudomona aeroginosa, a common cause of bacterial pneumonia in humans, especially those on ventilators, those with cystic fibrosis or those with compromised immune systems. All the mice which inhaled aerosolized nanoparticles known as silver silver carbene complexes (SCCs), had significantly lower concentrations of bacteria in their lungs than mice inhaling placebo nanoparticles. Most significantly, none of the mice in the SCC group died, while all the mice in the control group did. Were all those doctors who prescribed silver products and the scientists who conducted the studies liars, scammers and/or quacks? (Must have been the placebo effect, huh?) Meanwhile millions of people around the world are taking it and reporting cures of pneumonia, staph, candida, MRSA, Chrohns, Lyme, flus including the H1N1 flu, and much more. So, is mainstream medicine and its advocates and agents attacking colloidal silver because it really does not work and is dangerous, or could it be that they simply attack it and anything else that represents a threat to the hundreds of billions in profits from patented drugs? Can someone explain this article for me please? Obama's new healtcare plan? WASHINGTON – Abortion opponents fought passage of President Barack Obama's health care overhaul to the bitter end, and now that it's the law, they're using it to limit coverage by private insurers. An obscure part of the law allows states to restrict abortion coverage by private plans operating in new insurance markets. Capitalizing on that language, abortion foes have succeeded in passing bans that, in some cases, go beyond federal statutes. "We don't consider elective abortion to be health care, so we don't think it's a bad thing for fewer private insurance companies to cover it," said Mary Harned, attorney for Americans United for Life, a national organization that wrote a model law for the states. Abortion rights supporters are dismayed. "Implementation of this reform should be about increasing access to health care and increasing choices, not taking them away," said Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., a member of the Senate leadership. "Health care reform is not an excuse to take rights away from women." Since Obama signed the legislation law March 23, Arizona and Tennessee have enacted laws restricting abortion coverage by health plans in new insurance markets, called exchanges. About 30 million people will get their coverage through exchanges, which open in 2014 to serve individuals and small businesses. In Florida, Mississippi and Missouri, lawmakers have passed bans and sent them to their governors. Most of the states allow exceptions in cases of rape, incest or to save the life of the mother. Insurers still could offer separate policies to specifically cover abortion. Three other states may act this year — Louisiana, Ohio and Oklahoma. Overall, there are 29 states where lawmakers or public policy groups expressed serious interest, Harned said. "You are going to see more actions like this," said Tom McClusky, a lobbyist for the socially conservative Family Research Council. "This is not something we are just going to let fall by the wayside." Before the overhaul became law, five states had limits on private insurance coverage of abortion — Idaho, Kentucky, Missouri, North Dakota and Oklahoma. Abortion rights supporters are concerned that the list is growing as a result of the new federal law. Murray had joined in voting down a federal abortion coverage ban when the Senate debated health care last year. Now she and other abortion rights supporters worry the same sorts of restrictions could spread from state to state. "It's really going to be a patchwork of state laws by the time these exchanges are set up," said Jessica Arons, director of women's health at the Center for American Progress, a liberal public policy institute. Most private health insurance plans cover abortion as a legal medical procedure, but research indicates many women opt to pay directly. The federal law allows private insurance plans in the exchanges to cover abortion as long as they collect a separate premium. That money must remain apart from public subsidies available to help pay insurance premiums for most customers in the exchanges. That compromise split abortion foes in Congress and around the country. Anti-abortion organizations including National Right to Life and the U.S. Catholic bishops called it a fig leaf, and continued to oppose the legislation. But Catholic hospitals and many religious orders of nuns supported it. Abortion rights supporters were cool to the compromise, but it broke a political deadlock threatening the bill. Anti-abortion Democrats in the House cast critical votes for the legislation after Obama also agreed to an executive order affirming long-standing federal policy against the use of taxpayer funds for abortion except in cases of rape, incest or to save the life of the mother — known as the Hyde amendment. Tennessee already has enacted a far stricter ban, with no exceptions. Democratic Gov. Phil Bredesen, who allowed it to become law without his signature, said in a statement it "creates a prohibition much broader than that found in current law and could unintentionally negatively impact the quality of health care options for Tennesseans." All eyes are now on Florida, where Gov. Charlie Crist will decide soon whether to sign a bill that restricts abortion coverage in that state's insurance exchange. Florida is a politically diverse state, not known as a bedrock of social conservatism. Crist is running for the U.S. Senate as an independent, after it became clear that he would lose the Republican primary to former state Rep. Marco Rubio. Crist, who opposes abortion, has indicated he has problems with a part of the bill that would require a woman seeking an abortion to view an ultrasound of the embryo. "Florida has always been pretty much of a middle-of-the road state," said Stephanie Kunkel, executive director of Planned Parenthood Will this limit abortions or make it easier to get one?? I hope it limits to very limited cirumstances!
What is this article about please answer? Improving Patient Care Race and Preventive Services Delivery The way to eliminate disparities may be to improve access to family physicians. Robin S. Gotler, MA, Robert L. Williams, MD, MPH, Susan A. Flocke, PhD, George E. Kikano, MD, CPE, Kurt C. Stange, MD, PhD Because many racial minority groups have disproportionately high rates of preventable health problems, the issue of disparities in the delivery of preventive services is of particular concern. A number of studies focusing on the population at large suggest there are racial disparities in the delivery of preventive services. However, there has been little direct study of this issue in primary care settings, where most preventive services are provided. This lack of research led us to investigate the following question: Do racial disparities in preventive service delivery occur among patients seeing family physicians? Study results To learn more about the relationship between race and preventive service delivery in family practice, we analyzed data from the Direct Observation of Primary Care (DOPC) Study. By directly observing 4,454 patient visits to 138 family physicians in Northeast Ohio, the DOPC Study sought to better understand the inner-workings of family practice. For this analysis, we examined the delivery of preventive services to both African-American and white patients. These services, recommended by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, included screening services (such as blood pressure checks, mammography and sigmoidoscopy), immunizations (such as DPT, tetanus and flu vaccinations), and health habit counseling (on topics such as diet, sexually transmitted diseases, tobacco, alcohol and drugs). ILLUMINATING THE 'BLACK BOX' OF PRIMARY CARE This article continues our series on the Direct Observation of Primary Care (DOPC) Study, which was funded by the National Institutes of Health and conducted by the Center for Research in Family Practice and Primary Care, with support from the AAFP. The study demonstrates the complexities of the patient visit, the demands of real-world practice and the value of primary care, issues that policymakers, the public and even clinicians have not fully understood. The study found that, within family practices, African-American patients and white patients were equally "up-to-date" (i.e., equally likely to receive services within the recommended periods) on both screening and immunization services. However, African-American patients were significantly more likely than white patients to be up-to-date on health habit counseling. These findings stand in stark contrast to studies of the general population, in which African Americans receive fewer recommended services. Take-away lessons Access to care within the family practice setting appears to play an important role in reducing disparities in the delivery of preventive services. These results support calls for improving quality of care by increasing the population's access to primary care. They also suggest that access to family practice and primary care must be a key component of any effort to ensure racial equity in the delivery of preventive services. I received my W2 for 2009 but the consulting firm that handles our payroll is listed as my employer? My employer changed payroll firms in January 2009, which came as a surprise to most employees when many who did not have bank accounts could not cash their paychecks because the company did not have an established history in our area (grocery store check cashing, payroll cashing services, etc.). This consulting firm/payroll processing company is now handling our health insurance, which has been a nightmare from the beginning. Many of us did not have coverage under the new policy effective November 1, unknown to us until one of the employees had surgery the beginning of December. She was told by our human resources manager to keep her receipts and all her expenses would be covered by the employer if insurance was not figured out. This same employee also was to have family coverage as of November 1, had payroll deductions for this coverage, and then was told her family was not covered (a violation of her new husband's divorce agreement as he canceled his coverage to coincide with hers taking effect in November). She also was not going to receive a reimbursement of her premiums paid. As of 2 days ago, we received a fax with our group policy number on it effective January 1, but still do not have individual cards. This has been very fishy from the beginning to most of us as the coverage has changed several times from November to now (promised coverage, co-pay, participating physicians & hospitals, deductibles, etc.) We have also now been informed that the old policy had not been canceled in November, so all of our claims would have been covered under the old policy as the HR mgr did not stop paying the premiums on the old policy. Now, we have received our 2009 W2s, but the payroll/consulting firm is listed as our employer. Is this legal? If not, who do I need to contact here in Ohio? Thank you!
Pregnant, no insurance, no Medicaid, OBGYN fees are too high! Any advice? Hi! I am 19 weeks pregnant. I do not work because I already have a son and daycare costs are higher than I used to earn as a full-time licensed social worker. My husband is self-employed and we do alright, but we are not wealthy. We do not have insurance because it is very expensive for those who are self-employed. Besides, if we got insurance now, no company that we've called will cover pregnancy. I did not know I was pregnant until I was 14 weeks along. I called all the doctors in my area and chose the 2nd cheapest. (The cheapest is located in a questionable area.) Since the doctor takes the global fee and divides it by the number of months you have left before delivery, I am paying $675 per visit. This week I have to pay for a $675 check up, a $275 ultrasound, and $420 for blood tests. We have begun the process to apply for Medicaid but the worker told me it does not look good...they consider gross income and not net for people who are self-employed. (I live in Greene County, Ohio.) I have contacted the Health Department but they will only save me about $1200 total and I would have to deliver at a hospital that I do not prefer. We can continue to make the $675 payments each visit, but we are just trying to find a cheaper alternative. I have thought of just using a midwife and no doctor, but there is no option of an epidural this way. (I don't think I want an epidural, but I want the option.) I also want to state that when I was pregnant with my son, we were in almost the same boat...I was employed, and had insurance through my employer until I quit my job in my 9th month. Of course, when I quit my job, I lost my insurance. I worked for a small private homeless shelter, so they were not required to offer COBRA. At that time, I acquired insurance through Cinergy. I paid them over $800 and I got scammed big time. They did not cover one penny of my doctor fees or hospital fees for myself or my son. I just want to make this known in case anyone out there is considering Cinergy. Thank you for reading my enormous story...I appreciate any advice you have to offer! (And just to nip some pessimists in the bud, I was on birth control...so please don't bad-mouth us for getting pregnant without a plan in place. Although this baby is a surprise, we still consider this to be a blessing!!)

find draft, grammar check, and the fourth para is my conclusion and i wrote in alternative term. Please help The use of herbicide in lawn care has increased in the past year. Advertising has portrayed herbicide as a magician that could provide a nice environment in a really short time, in order to fulfill our desire. This chemical spray is use to destroy needless weeds and plants, but a lot of people overuse it, and that causes many problems. These problems can typically be found around us. Pollution in our water, and other effects on human health. Therefore, we have a responsibility to prevent the use of herbicide and protect our life and the environment we live in. Herbicide contains two specific ingredients: glyphosate and 2,4D. These chemicals are commonly used in farms, parks and golf courses. Farmers and gardeners use the chemicals to kill unwanted plants, but they don’t realize that the chemicals do not stay on the plants. The herbicides are getting into our water, rivers and, subsequently, into the rain. It could kill fish, beavers, frogs and birds. I found that some researches have proven that weed killer is toxic to the environment. John Struger, a scientist at the Canadian Centre for Inland Waters, analyzed urban streams and detected nine types of herbicides. Tyrone Hayes, the developmental endocrinologist at the University of California at Berkeley, said that over-use of herbicide is directly effecting male tadpoles in the laboratory. He tested the level used in the environment, and found that this chemical removed the testicles of male tadpoles, and prevented male characteristics from fully forming. He concluded that herbicide exposure turns the tadpoles into hermaphrodites (creatures with both male and female sexual characteristics). If there are no more male frogs, frog populations will decrease, and, without the frogs to consume them, bug populations will increase. In fact, herbicides are not only harmful to our environment but are also slowly poisoning both children and adults. Children are at a high risk of infection because their immune systems are very weak. A U.S. National Cancer Institute survey found that children with leukemia and asthma are six times more likely to come from homes where herbicides were used. Children are most at risk of developing problems because they play on lawns, and herbicides can enter through their skin. And according to Dr. Kelly Martin, 20% of the people who arrive in hospital emergency rooms with toxic herbicide exposure are children who have crawled on a lawn after it had been sprayed safely. The Ontario College of Family Physicians, the Canadian Public Health Association and the Learning Disabilities Association of Canada have said that herbicides affect children’s neurological development, reproduction, growth, and the functioning of the immune and endocrine systems. Moreover, Canadians are using approximately four million kilograms of herbicides every year. Adults have stronger immune systems, but are also affected by the chemical sprays, exhibiting symptoms such as sneezing, running nose, stinging eyes, headache and diarrhea. Now scientist had investigated organic herbicide, this organic product is vinegar. Vinegar does great job in killing off weeds without hurting plants, animals and human. The acidic nature of vinegar (4 percent acetic acid) is what makes it an ideal organic herbicide. It is perfectly for farm and even home garden. All you need to do is make a one-time application of a quart of vinegar using a standard spray bottle. This is a cheap alternative way to protect both human and environment. You can find vinegar anywhere like Superstore, Safeway and Wal-mart. This information reported by Rafiq Islam a soil and water specialist with Ohio State’s South Centers. i thnk i need a better conclusion

Why do people come to the United States for health care? When they have the rest of the world to choose from? Visitors seeking U.S. health care fret over work By Ramit Plushnick-Masti, Associated Press GIBSONIA, Pa. — A bright girl with dark curls crowning her face, Matisse Reid has been sick all her life with a rare disorder that prevents her body from absorbing nutrients. She nibbles on beet salad for lunch, but Matisse's real meal — fats, nutrients and fluids — come from an intravenous line running from her backpack to a vein in her stomach. After six years of IV feedings, the pressure on her liver is becoming life-threatening and she is running out of usable veins. Often, she is doubled over with chronic pain and vomiting. After months of fundraising in their native New Zealand, Wayne and Jodee Reid, Matisse's parents, packed up their family of six and traveled 8,500 miles to Pittsburgh for a multi-organ transplant that could save their 6-year-old daughter's life. As they wait for a stomach, bowel and pancreas to become available, the Reids must draw from $260,000 they raised, money they are counting on to carry them through the years it will take Matisse to recover from her operation. Like other foreign families in the United States to obtain lifesaving medical care, the Reids are here on tourist visas, which do not allow them to find jobs. Families say that makes it more difficult to sustain themselves on the long journey of saving their children's lives, adding to their anxiety. "At the end of the day, we're just parents trying to do what's best for their children," Jodee said as Matisse, who is often in pain, played upstairs in the home they rent in this Pittsburgh suburb. The Reids arrived in Pittsburgh in January, expecting to spend about three years here for Matisse's operation and long recovery. But with the wait for the transplants expecting to take eight months to a year, they now realize they may have to stay closer to five years — and it's unclear whether the money they raised will be enough. If they spend only $60,000 annually — a tight stretch for a family of six — the money will run out in about four years. Often, coming to the United States is the only choice for families seeking complicated transplants, leaving people who have always worked dependent on charitable people and organizations. On rare occasions, they are forced to return home. "There's no provision whatsoever, even for humanitarian grounds, to allow these people to work," said Bruce Larson, director of the international personnel office at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., which treated about 8,000 foreigners last year at its hospitals, including several hundred children. The federal government does not track how many of the millions of people who come here on tourist visas are seeking medical care. Working with the Mayo Clinic and St. Jude's Hospital in Memphis, Rep. Steve Cohen, D-Tenn., said he plans to sponsor a bill that would grant work permits to parents of children who need more than six months of medical care. But it could get hung up in the bitter debate over immigration reform. Cohen wants to attach his bill to the broader reform legislation, which collapsed in the Senate in June. "I should hope it would have support. It's logical, it's humane," Cohen said. "I can't imagine anyone thinking this would be a security risk. It's just a humanitarian issue." Matisse was born on Christmas Day 2000 with chronic idiopathic intestinal pseudo-obstruction, a disorder in which the small or large intestines lose their ability to contract and push food, stool and air through the gastrointestinal tract. It affects fewer than 200,000 people in the United States and is most common in children and the elderly. The cause is unknown but symptoms include severe bowel problems — from vomiting and diarrhea to chronic pain. Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, where Matisse is awaiting the triple transplant, treats fewer than 30 international patients a year. Years of lobbying convinced the New Zealand government to cover the $1.4 million cost of Matisse's planned transplants. Independently, the Reids also raised nearly $260,000 in donations to sustain Matisse and her three siblings — Rachel, 15, Kalani, 9 and Fraanz, 2 — during the years it will take Matisse to recover. "It's only the highly motivated or those with some resources to raise money to come to another country, whether it's England, France or the United States, can come," said Dr. George Mazariegos, director of pediatric transplants at Children's Hospital. "Right now the care is very disproportional to the need." Intestinal transplants have been done only about 1,300 times since 1989, nearly all in the United States, Mazariegos said. A study by a group of doctors in Columbus, Ohio, found that of eight children who underwent such transplants, two died a short while later. Of those who survived, the study found their lifestyles were significantly improved and at least three had normal bowel movements within 18 months. For the hundreds of foreigners who come to America every year seeking medical care, the issue of finances is ever present. Sometimes, medical care can take years, putting families in a financial bind. According to immigration attorneys, there are two alternatives for foreigners to receive work permits, and both are rarely effective. A family can open a small business. However, to ensure the business is viable they must invest at least $100,000. In this case, the owners of the business would have their visa status changed and they would get working papers. Getting hired by a research institute, such as a university, can also provide a work visa. However, there are just a few thousand such visas issued annually and they normally expire within days of the lottery. Non-profit research institutes, such as hospitals, do have an unlimited number of work visas that they can issue annually and a foreigner hired by such an institution could get working papers as well. Wayne Reid is a carpenter by trade and desperately wants to work — to keep busy and earn money for the family. He said he was offered under-the-table odd jobs but he refuses to do anything that might jeopardize his daughter's treatment.

Minnesota has been among the top two states since 1990. Vermont is ranked second this year and has consistently moved up in the rankings for the last five years. New Hampshire is number three, followed by Utah, Hawaii and North Dakota. Mississippi is 50th and the least healthy state, while Louisiana is 49th. Tennessee, South Carolina and Arkansas complete the bottom five states. Minnesota is first this year, a position it has held for 10 of the 16 years since the 1990 Edition. Minnesota’s strengths include ranking first for a low rate of cardiovascular deaths, a low premature death rate and a low percentage of uninsured population. It is also in the top five states for a low percentage of children in poverty, a low total mortality rate, a low infant mortality rate, a low occupational fatalities rate, a low rate of motor vehicle deaths and a high rate of high school graduation. Minnesota’s biggest challenges are a high prevalence of smoking at 20.7 percent of the population, a high prevalence of obesity at 22.6 percent of the population and limited access to adequate prenatal care with 75.8 percent of pregnant women receiving adequate prenatal care. Mississippi is 50th this year, down from 49th in the 2004 Edition. It has been in the bottom three states since the 1990 Edition. The state ranks well in all three health policy measures: 8th for access to adequate prenatal care, which is available to 81.8 percent of pregnant women; 11th for per capita public health spending, at $197 per person; and 14th for immunization coverage, with 84.0 percent of children ages 19 to 35 months receiving complete immunizations. It ranks in the bottom five states on nine of the 18 measures: a high premature death rate, a high infant mortality rate, a high total mortality rate, a high rate of cardiovascular deaths, a high percentage of children in poverty, a high prevalence of obesity, a high rate of motor vehicle deaths, a high occupational fatalities rate, and a high number of limited activity days. It also ranks in the bottom 10 states for two other measures. Table 4 lists the score and ranking for each of the 50 states. Scores presented in the tables indicate the percentage a state is above or below the national norm. For example, a state with a score of 20 is 20 percent above the national average for that component. A negative score means the state is below the national average. When comparing states from year to year, differences in score are more important than changes in ranking.

The Nanny -- Nazi -- State Goes a long with Why People Are Scared (The original & my response)? Willys cynical thought for the day; In my web research, Declaration of Independence, etc., I have yet to find where the government says they'll be my freaking mommy! So you goddamn politicians stay the hell out of my life and pockets AZZHOLES! The Nanny State (I got this in a Biker email rag) Worrying about bacteria, New Jersey banned restaurants from serving eggs sunny side up. The ban has since been lifted. Some New Jersey localities have a ban on people pumping their own gasoline. Policemen issue citations for driving without a seatbelt. By law new cars must be equipped with air bags. Federal law mandates that all new toilets flush using a paltry 1.6 gallons of water. Georgia's governor mandates that classical music be given to all new mothers so as to aid infant IQ development. California, and others, has banned smoking in bars. Clinton wants a law passed banning smoking within 100 feet of a federal building. In parts of Ohio, children going trick-or-treating must obtain a special permit. These intrusions and more were recently revealed by television journalist John Stossel on ABC's 20/20. The stated motivation behind this gross intrusion and criminalization of private behavior is to protect us from making unwise choices. John Stossel asked Ricardo Martinez, head of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), why can't people at least have air bag on/off switches. Martinez responded by saying that society makes decisions about what benefits most people, and most people benefit from air bags. Stossel interviewed Yale University's Professor Kelley D. Brownell, director of the Center for Eating & Weight Disorders who thinks Americans eat too many hamburgers and French fries. Professor Brownell wants government to tax fatty foods and those with little nutritional content and use the proceeds to subsidize fruits, vegetables and other nutritious foods. He's suggested that some of the tax proceeds be used to build bike and hiking trails. I'm wondering just when Americans are going to decide that we've had enough government meddling in our lives. It is nobody's business whether I eat eggs sunny side up, drive without wearing seat belts, or pig out on hamburgers and French fries. I'd like someone to show me Congress's constitutional authority for government protecting me from making unwise choices. Those who believe government should be in the business of making us take care of ourselves, should tell us where does it all end? Should government decide what time we go to bed? After all sleep is vital to good health. Should government force us to exercise, read wholesome literature, and bathe regularly? The people who advocate a nanny government (a better term is Nazi government) are cowards. You say, "What do you mean, William?" Take Kelley Brownell. If he doesn't want me to eat that Big Mac and French fries, let him walk up to my table and remove them from my plate. He wants no part of doing that because he doesn't want to meet his maker this year so he prefers using the brutal forces of government. "The rest is mine; When I was young, bullies use to pick on me, take food off my lunch tray and otherwise harass me. That's until I followed the advice of my father who told me that if you let a bully get away with one thing, the next day it's going to be something else and the following day something else again. He told me that the bullying won't stop until I decide to stand up and fight. He said that even if I lose the fight, the next time I'm bullied, stand up and fight again. Let the bully know that when he bullies, win, lose or draw, he has a fight on his hands. Eventually he will stop. I think Americans should employ my Dad's advice. As long as we stand as lambs before the slaughter you can bet that there'll be no end to Congress's bureaucratic stooges bullying us. This is still America, last I checked anyway, yes we have 'freedom' here but 'freedom' is, never was and never will be 'Free.' Those of us who like to eat hamburgers and greasy fries must take responsibility by a) walking around with a big butt b) doing exercise or c) (in my case) taking cholesterol lowering pills and *trying* to stay away from the greasy stuff. If we don't want to wear seatbelts, or helmets, WE, not Congress, must pay in pain, time (in hospitals, rehabs w/e), or loss of body parts. I'm firmly convinced I would never have survived, some of, the accidents I was in had I been hog-tied to the seat. The insurance companies, and Medical providers, ALWAYS lobby for these laws but I haven't heard of a single case where after such a law was passed the insurance company says, "Oh with your 20 year perfect driving record (not mine) we've decided that your next ___ year's insurance is on us." Has a hospital ever said, "Now that our ER doctors and nurses won't have to be patching up all the accidents maybe we should offer breast enlargement at half price?" Now stop laughing and reread this paragraph in it, under sarcasm, is the point I'm trying to make. The answer to both is NO! And unless an insurance company or hospital administrator is reading this, and wants to prove me wrong, I don't think it ever will be! The 'it's good for you' doesn't stop at the things listed above. What if a slimy politician took it in his, or her, head that tattooing is wrong? Or certain subjects can't be tattooed on anybody? Like large breasted blondes, skulls, flames, or spider webs? I hope I'm NOT giving them any ideas because I have all these. This can be taken as far as you want to go like; they pass a law that ONLY Army, Marine, Navy, Airforce w/e tattoos are kosher. Or just Democrat or Republican ink is allowed. How about the ONLY lower back, female, tattoo that will be allowed is a 'GodSmack Sun?' Okay tattooists stop salivating imagining how much business you'll get by people running out to get their favorite tattoo done. And remember the upswing will only last until enforcement duties are figured out, i.e., the local Police, County cops, State Police or help us all if the FBI gets the job. Actually help them I don't need any help! And of course that's not the only thing 'good for you.' This has been tried but what if Congress actually passed a law banning Rock & Roll, Country, Blues, Rock-a-Billy or Rap music. Or what if they legislate pianos, Violins and Trumpets are the only acceptable instruments? No electric guitars, fiddles, Blues Harps or Saxophones? And of course subsidizing lessons is another way to do, almost, the same thing! Americans are lucky the founding fathers came from Europe where Religion - a belief in their God - was considered 'good for you' so it was mandated in some places; which is where 'The First Amendment' came from. If European governments had mandated seatbelts on cable cars and horses, and or required at least 4 oz. of meat at dinner -- chicken, beef or fish -- there may have been another Bill of Rights. This one saying, something like, "Congress shall make no law requiring citizens to do anything somebody thinks will be good for them." Unless, of course, any of them made, or sold, seatbelts or had anything to do with producing, or selling, meat. In 1776 that was, almost, everybody. This was long before people either ate meat or were vegetarians. In fact getting enough to eat was more important than the cholesterol!" Now a few quotes; "The career of a politician mainly consists in making one part of the nation do what it does not want to do, in order to please and satisfy the other part of the nation. It is the prolonged sacrifice of the rights of some persons at the bidding and for the satisfaction of other persons. The ruling idea of the politician - stated rather bluntly - is that those who are opposed to him exist for the purpose of being made to serve his ends, if he can get power enough in his hands to force these ends upon them." -- Auberon Herbert "There is no worse tyranny than to force a man to pay for what he does not want merely because you think it would be good for him." -- Robert Heinlein "The most basic question is not what is best but who shall decide what is best." -- Thomas Sowell http://www.total-knowledge.com/~willyblues/ From; Willys Jokes archieves
Are Hillary's constant lies indicative of a mental illness? She's been caught three times in the last week. First it was sniper fire in Bosnia, proven beyond a shadow of a doubt to be an outright lie. Then earlier today it was the non-existant book bag being thrown against the wall upon hearing of MLK's death. Now there's the tragic story of Trina Bachtel of Ohio, who died, along with her newborn baby, because she didn't have health insurance or the $100 for a hospital visit. Bachtel's parents are outraged. Trina was not poor and she did have health insurance. The only part of Hillary's story that's true is that mother and baby died, but it wasn't because of a lack of care. Mrs. Clinton's chronic lying is reminiscent of Al Gore's invention of the internet, the movie "Love Story" being patterned after him and Tipper, and global warming. Both of them are typical Democrat politicians who have no regard for the truth, but will tell any falsehood if it will further their own interests. Should they both seek psychiatric help?

Old hospital bills effect on credit? Hello and happy Friday to you all. This is a special weekend for me, since my Grandma is visiting from Ohio. I just opened my first ever CC. A secured card with a $400 limit. So far as I know, I've no credit history. I think I checked a while back and there was not enough info on me to give a score. I have no health insurance. Back in mid 2004 I smacked my scalp open and needed 17 staples. Then in late 2004 to mid '05 I cut my finger while shelling a coconut. Needed 3 stitches. I thought the bills were totally ridiculous, so I blew them off. The hospital's collection law firm tried to find me, but I ignored their letters. Haven't seen or heard anything from them in at least 2 or 3 years. Any idea if these old 'debts' will have an effect on my credit score? Like I said, so far as I know, I don't even have one yet. Thanks. Somebody is gonna start the weekend off right with 10 delectable points on this one!!!
Norovirus (previously called "Norwalk-like viruses") In My Town! Help!? Norovirus (previously called "Norwalk-like viruses")[1], is an RNA virus of the Caliciviridae taxonomic family. The virus causes approximately 90% of epidemic non-bacterial outbreaks of gastroenteritis around the world,[2][3] and is responsible for 50% of all foodborne outbreaks of gastroenteritis in the US.[4] Norovirus affects people of all ages. The viruses are transmitted by faecally contaminated food or water and by person-to-person contact.[5] After infection, immunity to norovirus is usually incomplete and temporary.[6] There is an inherited predisposition to infection, and individuals with blood type O are more often infected,[2][7] while blood types B and AB can confer partial protection against symptomatic infection.[8][9] Outbreaks of norovirus disease often occur in closed or semi-closed communities, such as long-term care facilities, hospitals, prisons, dormitories, and cruise ships where once the virus has been introduced, the infection spreads very rapidly by either person-to-person transmission or through contaminated food.[10] Many norovirus outbreaks have been traced to food that was handled by one infected person.[11] Norovirus is rapidly inactivated by chlorine-based disinfectants, but because the virus particle does not have a lipid envelope, it is less susceptible to alcohols and detergents.[12] There are different genogroups of norovirus and the majority of noroviruses that infect humans are classified into genogroup G1 and G2.[13] History The norovirus was originally called the Norwalk Virus. The name was shortened to the norovirus after receiving national attention for being identified in multiple cruise ship outbreaks. The Norwalk Virus was named after Norwalk, Ohio, where an outbreak of acute gastroenteritis occurred among a vast majority of children at Bronson Elementary School in November 1968. In 1972, immune electron microscopy on stored stool samples identified a virus, which was given the name Norwalk virus. Numerous outbreaks with similar symptoms have been reported since. The cloning and sequencing of the Norwalk virus genome showed that these viruses have a genomic organization consistent with viruses belonging to the family Caliciviridae.[14] The name norovirus (Norovirus for the genus) was approved by the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses in 2002. [15] Common names of the illness caused by noroviruses are winter vomiting disease, viral gastroenteritis and acute non-bacterial gastroenteritis[5], also colloquially known as "stomach flu" — a broad name that can also refer to gastric inflammation caused by other viruses and bacteria. The virus has previously been called Norwalk virus, Norwalk-like virus, SRSVs (Small Round Structured Viruses), and Snow Mountain virus.[16][citation needed] [edit] Signs and symptoms The disease is usually self-limiting, and characterised by nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain; and in some cases, loss of taste. General lethargy, weakness, muscle aches, headache, and low-grade fever may occur. Symptoms may persist for several days and may become life-threatening in the young, the elderly, and the immune-compromised if dehydration is ignored or not treated.[5] When a person becomes infected with norovirus, the virus begins to multiply within the small intestine. After approximately 1 to 2 days, norovirus symptoms can appear. [edit] Diagnosis Specific diagnosis of norovirus is routinely made by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assays or real-time PCR assays, which give results within a few hours. These assays are very sensitive and can detect concentrations as low as 10 virus particles.[17] Tests such as ELISA that use antibodies against a mixture of norovirus strains are available commercially but lack specificity and sensitivity.[18] [edit] Prevention and infection control Hand washing remains an effective method to reduce the spread of norovirus pathogens. Norovirus can be aerosolized when those stricken with the illness vomit. Surface sanitizing is recommended in areas where the Norovirus may be present on surfaces. In health care environments, the prevention of nosocomial infections involves routine and terminal cleaning. Nonflammable alcohol vapor in CO2 systems are used in health care environments where medical electronics would be adversely affected by aerosolized chlorine or other caustic compounds.[19] Ligocyte is working on a vaccine and has already started phase 1 trials.[20][when?] [edit] Associated foods Noroviruses are transmitted directly via person to person or indirectly via contaminated water and foods. A CDC study of eleven outbreaks in New York State lists the suspected mode of transmission as person-to-person in seven outbreaks, foodborne in two, waterborne in one, and one unknown. The source of waterborne outbreaks may include water from municipal supplies, wells, recreational lakes, swimming pools and ice machines. [21] Shellfish and salad ing ingredients are the foods most often implicated in Norwalk outbreaks. Ingestion of raw or insufficiently steamed clams and oysters poses a high risk for infection with the Norwalk virus. Foods other than shellfish are contaminated by ill food handlers.[22] The point is its here in my town and i want to know how to get rid of it. I dont know how all the doctors say "Its the common flu, dont worry about it" problem is two chilldren very close have died from it. My family including me has it. I wanna know how to get rid of it, in fact i have it right now. Some people say its "created " virus by the Government for the new world order. I dont know if thats true, but it is a lethal virus, and has taken young children and elderly people, it here in The Northern Califonia area and effects alotta people from Jobs, to school, if there any doctors or people that know ant remidies or cures let me know!, you`d be doing northern califonia and many people here a big favor! thank you.

I am going to try the rapid nitrate reduction technigue but do not know if this will harm my live rock by expo exposing them to the air. What can I do to help this possible harmful thing. The technigue requires you take out over 50% of the tanks water and add fresh while gravel sucking the bottom. My nitrates are at 80% now and with 8 20% water changes, I did not reduce the levels so I need to try the most drastic 80% change don't I?????? Its a 75 gallon salt water with too much live rock and 5 fish, a stars and strips puffer, 3 dempsals, one goby and a chip start fish. it has a wet dry filter and a built in protein skimmer. I added a powerhead to help circulate the bad waste I see sitting in the hollows of the sand. I have greatly improved the appearance and the quality of the tank and flipped the algea covered live rock over. Its at a hospital setting in their day room here in Findlay Ohio and its become my responsiblity to bring it back to health so.......?????? Thank you for all the answers on this you can give me including additives, water changes, quanity to feed, etc...
What do you think of this? Obama leaving campaign trail to visit grandmother WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama is canceling nearly all his campaign events Thursday and Friday to fly to Hawaii to visit his suddenly gravely ill 85-year-old grandmother, a spokesman said. Robert Gibbs told reporters aboard Obama's plane that Madelyn Payne Dunham, who helped raise Obama, was released from the hospital late last week. But he said her health had deteriorated "to the point where her situation is very serious." Events originally planned for Madison, Wis., and Des Moines, Iowa, on Thursday will be replaced with one in Indianapolis before he makes the long flight to Hawaii. On Friday, Obama's wife, Michelle, will sub for Obama at rallies in Akron and Columbus, in Ohio, said campaign spokeswoman Jen Psaki. Obama was expected to resume campaigning on Saturday, at an undecided location in the West, she said. "Sen. Obama's grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, has always been one of the most important people in his life, along with his mother and his grandfather," Gibbs said. "Recently his grandmother has become ill source: Yahoo News hayley: I totally agree with you Obama/Biden 08 Rosie: Your claim that he is a socialist is crazy

Why did this not make headline news...? July 09, 2007 Media Silence on Antiwar Violence (updated) Patrick Poole An Air Force airman was shot by antiwar protestor on July 4th, but the establishment media and liberal blogs yawn. Airman Jonathan Schrieken, 22, is fighting for his life after being shot in the heart by a gunman intending to make an antiwar statement, while standing outside his home near McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey on July 4th. Airman Schrieken, a loadmaster with the 6th Airlift Squadron based at McGuire, remains in critical condition at a Camden, New Jersey hospital. The antiwar gunman, Matthew J. Marren, killed himself after shooting Schrieken and left two suicide notes explaining that he was "mad at the government". Meanwhile, the establishment media ignores the story. The initial Associated Press report on the incident never mentioned Marren's motive for shooting Schrieken. The first media outlet to discuss Marren's intent to make an antiwar statement on the 4th of July by killing a member of our military was Phillyburbs.com, and the story has only gained national attention after a post over the weekend at LittleGreenFootballs.com. A member of Marren's family described to Phillyburbs.com his reasons behind the attack: Marren's aunt, Terina Henderson of Trion, Ga., said she spoke to Marren's mother yesterday who told her Marren left two notes, one in his home and one in his car, indicating he was upset with the government. She said she did not know the exact wording in the notes, but said Marren was "mad at the government and wanted to make a statement ... that's why he did what he did on the Fourth of July." Over at LGF, a friend of the Schrieken family described the attack: He had been on leave here in Ohio and got back to his home off base and was unpacking stuff from his car when this 22 year old guy walked up to him and asked him if he lived in the house. When Jon said yes, the guy said "not any more" and shot him point blank in the chest. He tried to shoot him again, but his gun jammed. Jonathan made it into the house. The guy then shot himself. This makes it clear that Marren had nothing short of murder on his mind. Providentially, the gun jammed, allowing for Schrieken to escape into his house, where he lived with several other Airmen. If Airman Schrieken had been an abortionist or homosexual, this story would be front page news for the New York Times and the lead story on CBS News with Katie Couric for at least the next month. But since Schrieken is serving in the military, even his hometown newspaper, the Columbus Dispatch, has ignored this story. Predictably, a law enforcement spokesman says that Marren's suicide notes "were indicative of an individual suffering from mental-health problems", but that raises the question of how anyone could identify anyone suffering from mental-health problems amidst those devoted to bizarre conspiracy theories and the virulent anti-Americanism of the antiwar movement. If anything, Marren would have fit right in unnoticed. It is also worth noting that Marren was merely following the logic of the anti-war movement's standard public rhetoric. Their language is laced with suggestive undertones justifying attacks against our military, calling our armed forces fighting the War on Terror "baby-killers", constantly invoking the specter of Abu Ghraib, and citing their grossly inflated statistics of civilians accidentally killed in Iraq and Afghanistan. Such reckless and unbalanced rhetoric (they're not quite as adept at keeping statistics on those murdered by terrorists) fuels the hatred that drives someone like Marren to violence against a member of our own military. Antiwar supporters will no doubt disclaim any responsibility for Marren's attack, but in any other circumstance involving someone engaged in a politically incorrect crime, Leftists would not hesitate to point their fingers at the conservative movement. One might recall the attack on "right-wing talk radio" following Matthew Shepherd's murder and Hillary Clinton's indictment of the same after the Oklahoma City bombing. Add to that the attacks by the ACLU and others on the pro-life movement after the shootings of two abortion doctors in the 1990s. But now that someone has acted on the antiwar movement's anti-military rhetoric, don't expect to hear any apologies from Cindy Sheehan, International A.N.S.W.E.R., Daily Kos, or Rep. John Murtha. And certainly don't expect the establishment media to give this heart-rending story the coverage it deserves. I hope that Airman Schrieken will quickly and fully recover from his injuries. Realistically, his injuries may very well force him out of the military. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Schrieken family. Update: Readers wishing to send Airman Schieken a get-well card and thank him for his service to our country can reach him at: Jonathan Schrieken Room 720 by the door Cooper University Hospital 1 Cooper Plaza Camden NJ 08103 http://news.yahoo.com/s/uc/20070711/cm_uc_crmmax/op_193253 The link is provided above from YAHOO. I'm researching miracles. please help? Below is an example that I found that touches my heart: When Jory Aebly was shot in the head, execution-style during a mugging five weeks ago in Cleveland, Ohio, that should have been the end of it. Doctors at the Metro Health Medical Center told his family it was a "non-survivable" injury, according to the hospital's Web site. One man accredits former Pope John Paul II with performing a miracle. But Tuesday, a very-much-alive Aebly was wheeled to a press conference before he went home in what some believe is a true "miracle," possibly good enough to help earn deceased Pope John Paul II sainthood. "It's one in a million," Dr. Robert Geertman, a neurosurgeon involved in Aebly's treatment, said in a press conference just days after the shooting. "My jaw was on the floor after a day or two of seeing he is hanging on. ... I'd say it's pretty miraculous." The connection between the 26-year-old's incredible recovery and the late pope came in the form of hospital chaplain, Father Art Snedeker, and a single blessed rosary Snedeker gave Aebly soon after the shooting. "[Pope John Paul II] promised me that he would always pray for the patients at Metro and he blessed a dozen rosaries with special patients here," Snedeker said in the press conference. "The first night that Jory arrived and I performed the sacrament of the sick, I also asked Pope John Paul to pray for Jory and to protect him." Snedeker gave Aebly the last of the rosaries that were blessed by the pope. From then on, Aebly repeatedly amazed doctors with consistent improvement culminating in his release Tuesday, just two days before the fourth anniversary of John Paul's death. "I stand before you today and can say, to my mind, Jory is a miracle," Snedeker said at the press conference. At the press conference, Aebly's family also showed no shortage of faith concerning Aebly's recovery. Jory Aebly was shot in the head five weeks ago outside a downtown Cleveland restaurant and was released from Metro Health Medical Center Tuesday. "I believe in the power of prayer and I firmly believe that your prayers are the reason why I can introduce you to my brave and determined son," Aebly's mother, Deb Wolfram said. Aebly credited his recovery to "the many prayers from family, friends and co-workers and even people [he] hasn't met." The Vatican is especially interested in the prayers from one of the people Aebly never met, but one Snedeker is certain prayed for him: Pope John Paul II. In order to become a saint, candidates needs two official miracles attributed to them. The Vatican is currently investigating hundreds of cases of reported miracles associated with John Paul, but they haven't certified one yet. "The first stage is beatification where the person is proclaimed blessed on the basis of living a life of heroic virture and also performing one miracle," professor Mathew Schmalz of College of the Holy Cross said. "The second and final stage is when the person becomes a saint and thus is canonized. That happens when a second miracle is documented." Shortly after he died four years ago today, Pope John Paul II was put on the fast track for sainthood when Pope Benedict personally waived the five-year waiting period usually required for consideration. Still, a Vatican official said the process could take some time and there is no precise schedule. The Vatican has repeatedly denied rumors that Pope John Paul will be declared a saint in June of this year, which would coincide with the 30th anniversary of his election as pope. "We cannot predict a precise schedule," Monsignor Angelo Amato, prefect of the Congregation for the Caucus of Saints told Italian news service ANSA. "All stages, including the examination of the miracle, have to be conducted in a particularly thorough way." If Aebly's recovery is validated as a miracle, it would be enough for Pope John Paul's beatification, leaving just one more before sainthood would be possible. Here are my questions: a. Describe the miracle; What happened, when, where, how provide details. b. What are miracles? Explain how different people are impacted by the miracle or miracles. Is there a healing spiritually? c. What are your thoughts on the following: Should miracles be an important part or necessary aspect to have or spread faith today?
Would someone plz post an Accomplishments BIO of OBama as I am of Hillary? This is only a short list of the good she has done, starting back in her early life. You can pull it up by bringing her history BIO up online. There is much much more. Early life Raised in a politically conservative household,[11] at age thirteen she helped canvass South Side Chicago following the very close 1960 U.S. presidential election, finding evidence of electoral fraud against Republican candidate Richard Nixon,[12] and volunteered for Republican candidate Barry Goldwater in the U.S. presidential election of 1964.[13] Her early political development was shaped most strongly by her energizing high school history teacher, who got her to read Goldwater's classic The Conscience of a Conservative[14] and who was, like her father, a fervent anti-communist, and by her Methodist youth minister, like her mother concerned with issues of social justice; with the minister she saw and met civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr. in Chicago in 1962. Rodham attended the 1968 Republican National Convention in Miami, where she decided to leave the Republican Party for good; she was upset over how Richard Nixon's campaign had portrayed Rockefeller and what Rodham perceived as the "veiled" racist messages of the convention That summer, she worked her way across Alaska, washing dishes in Mount McKinley National Park and sliming salmon in a fish processing cannery in Valdez (which fired her and shut down overnight when she complained about unhealthy conditions). Law school During her second year, she worked at the Yale Child Study Center,[34] learning about new research on early childhood brain development and working as a research assistant on the seminal work, Beyond the Best Interests of the Child (1973).[35][36] She also took on cases of child abuse at Yale-New Haven Hospital,[35] and volunteered at New Haven Legal Services to provide free advice for the poor.[ and volunteered at New Haven Legal Services to provide free advice for the poor.[34] In the summer of 1970, she was awarded a grant to work at Marian Wright Edelman's Washington Research Project, where she was assigned to Senator Walter Mondale's Subcommittee on Migratory Labor, researching migrant workers' problems in housing, sanitation, health and education;[37][38] Edelman would become a significant mentor to her.[38] In the late spring of 1971, she began dating Bill Clinton, who was also a law student at Yale. Early Arkansas years Rodham co-founded the Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families, a state-level alliance with the Children's Defense Fund, in 1977. For much of that time[81] she served as the chair of that board, the first woman to do so.[82] During her time as chair, funding for the Corporation was expanded from $90 million to $300 million,[70] and she successfully battled against President Ronald Reagan's initial attempts to reduce the funding and change the nature of the organization. Clinton appointed her chair of the Rural Health Advisory Committee the same year,[83] where she successfully obtained federal funds to expand medical facilities in Arkansas' poorest areas without affecting doctors' fees. In one of the most important initiatives of the entire Clinton governorship,[92] she fought a prolonged but ultimately successful battle against the Arkansas Education Association[92] to put mandatory teacher testing as well as state standards for curriculum and classroom size in place.[92] She introduced Arkansas' Home Instruction Program for Preschool Youth in 1985, a program that helps parents work with their children in preschool preparedness and literacy.[94] She was named Arkansas Woman of the Year in 1983 and Arkansas Mother of the Year in 1984. First Lady of the United States When Bill Clinton took office as president in January 1993, Hillary Rodham Clinton became the First Lady of the United States, and announced that she would be using that form of her name.[116] She was the first First Lady to hold a post-graduate degree[117] and to have her own professional career up to the time of entering the White House.[118] She was also the first to take up an office in the West Wing of the White House:[48] the First Lady usually stays in the East Wing. She is regarded as the most openly empowered presidential wife in American history, save for Eleanor Roosevelt.[119] Along with Senator Ted Kennedy, she was the major force behind the State Children's Health Insurance Program in 1997, a federal effort that provided state support for children whose parents were unable to provide them with health coverage. She promoted nationwide immunization against childhood illnesses and encouraged older women to seek a mammogram to detect breast cancer, with coverage provided by Medicare.[140] She successfully sought to increase research funding for prostate cancer and childhood asthma at the National Institutes of Health. The First Lady worked to investigate reports of an illness that affected veterans of the Gulf War, which became known as the Gulf War syndrome.[48] Together with Attorney General Janet Reno, Clinton helped create the Office on Violence Against Women at the Department of Justice. In 1997, she initiated and shepherded the Adoption and Safe Families Act, which she regarded as her greatest accomplishment as First Lady.[48] As First Lady, Clinton hosted numerous White House Conferences, including ones on Child Care (1997),[141] Early Childhood Development and Learning (1997),[142] and Children and Adolescents (2000),[143] and the first-ever White House Conferences on Teenagers (2000)[144] and Philanthropy (1999). Hillary Clinton traveled to 79 countries during this time,[146] breaking the mark for most-travelled First Lady held by Pat Nixon.[147] In a September 1995 speech before the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing, Clinton argued very forcefully against practices that abused women around the world and in China itself,[148] declaring "that it is no longer acceptable to discuss women's rights as separate from human rights"[148] and resisting Chinese pressure to soften her remarks.[146] She was one of the most prominent international figures at the time to speak out against the treatment of Afghan women by the Islamist fundamentalist Taliban that had seized control of Afghanistan.[149][150] She helped create Vital Voices, an international initiative sponsored by the United States to promote the participation of women in the political processes of their countries. Traditional duties Clinton initiated and was Founding Chair of the Save America's Treasures program, a national effort that matched federal funds to private donations for the purpose of preserving and restoring historic items and sites,[184] including the flag that inspired the Star Spangled Banner and the First Ladies Historic Site in Canton, Ohio.[48] She was head of the White House Millennium Council,[185] and initiated the Millennium Project with monthly lectures that discuss futures studies, one of which became the first live simultaneous webcast from the White House. Clinton also created the first Sculpture Garden there, which displayed large contemporary American works of art loaned from museums in the Jacqueline Kennedy Garden.[186] Senate election of 2000 Clinton has served on five Senate committees: Committee on Budget (2001–2002),[203] Committee on Armed Services (since 2003),[204] Committee on Environment and Public Works (since 2001),[203] Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (since 2001)[203] and Special Committee on Aging.[205] She is also a Commissioner of the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe[206] (since 2001).[207] Following the September 11, 2001 attacks, Clinton sought to obtain funding for the recovery efforts in New York City and security improvements in her state. Working with New York's senior senator, Charles Schumer, she was instrumental in quickly securing $21 billion in funding for the World Trade Center site's redevelopment. She subsequently took a leading role in investigating the health issues faced by 9/11 first responders.[211] Clinton voted for the USA Patriot Act in October 2001, as did all but one senator. In 2005, when the act was up for renewal, she worked to address some of the civil liberties concerns with it,[212] before voting in favor of a compromise renewed act in March 2006 that gained large majority support.[213] As a member of the Senate Committee on Armed Services, Clinton strongly supported military action in Afghanistan, saying it was a chance to combat terrorism while improving the lives of Afghan women who suffered under the Taliban government. TAKE NOTE: "should such action be required" Now those who go on about her vote can eat crow!!.... Clinton voted in favor of the October 2002 Iraq War Resolution, which authorized United States President George W. Bush to use military force against Iraq, should such action be required to enforce a United Nations Security Council Resolution after pursuing with diplomatic efforts. In late 2005, Clinton said that while immediate withdrawal from Iraq would be a mistake, Bush's pledge to stay "until the job is done" is also misguided, as it gives Iraqis "an open-ended invitation not to take care of themselves. Clinton voted in 2005 against the confirmation of John Roberts as Chief Justice of the United States,[220] and in 2006 against the nomination of Samuel Alito to the United States Supreme Court;[221] both were confirmed. In 2005, Clinton called for the Federal Trade Commission to investigate how hidden sex scenes showed up in the controversial video game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.[222] Along with Senators Joe Lieberman and Evan Bayh, she introduced the Family Entertainment Protection Act, intended to protect children from inappropriate content found in video games. In March 2007 she voted in favor of a war spending bill that required President Bush to begin withdrawing troops from Iraq within a certain deadline; it passed almost completely along party lines[234] but was subsequently vetoed by President Bush. In May 2007 a compromise war funding bill that removed withdrawal deadlines but tied funding to progress benchmarks for the Iraqi government passed the Senate by a vote of 80-14 and would be signed by Bush; Clinton was one of those who voted against it. Clinton has enjoyed high approval ratings for her job as senator within New York, reaching an all-time high of 72 to 74 percent approving (including half of Republicans).

Could Rush possibly be responsible for the swine flu epidemic? PLEASE NOTE THIS IS SATIRE- Satire by R J Shulman New York -- (PTSD News) -- The World Health Organization has called it a “public health emergency of international concern." The swine flu virus has already infected millions in the United States, sparking worldwide alarm. The Center for Disease Control in Atlanta announced on Tuesday that they have traced the origin of the flu to talk show host Rush Limbaugh. “This is extremely troubling,” said Sarah Tinsdale of the CDC, “as Limbaugh has contact with millions of Americans every day.” Doctors say the symptoms of swine flu are getting hot under the collar with fever, the sudden inability to think for yourself, lack of appetite for the truth and diarrhea of the mouth. “One minute I started sneezing,” said Roger Wombat of Hickory, North Carolina, “and the next minute I said I wanted President Obama to fail.” “It was the swine flu that made me do it,” said Joseph Wynsocki of Lima, Ohio. “The fever took over my brain and I started to dismantle a Habitat for Humanity house that was slated for a welfare mother, brick by brick.” Apparently, the swine flu epidemic was the cause of thousands of infected sufferers joining together in “tea parties” to protest Obama’s tax reduction, claiming it made them pay too much in taxes. “I temporarily lost the use of my brain,” said Wanda Flemming of New Rochelle, New York, who is recovering in a White Plains hospital. “I had the radio tuned to Rush and all of a sudden I started vomiting out hatred toward poor people,” said Charlie Joe Briggs of Everett, Washington. “And I’ve been puking out garbage ever since.” Doctors at Seattle General Hospital have listed Briggs in guarded condition. Researchers say the best way to avoid getting swine flu is whenever you hear the sound of Limbaugh or one of his “dittoheads” is to pull a mask over your ears. Scientists are concerned over the rapid spread of the flu. “If this disease keeps infecting people at this rate,” said Dr. Lester Philpot of the CDC, “America will change from a country of decent human beings to a nation of swine.” 28 April 2009 Steve M-you should post this on your own dime (-10 points)
My 85 year old aunt is being abused by her daughter, who is the Power of Attorney? At the relentless urging of her daughter, my aunt moved out of the home she lived in for 56 years and bought a house for her and her daughter to live in 50+ miles away from all of her family and friends. My aunt is widowed and except for a few minor medical issues, she pretty much took care of herself. She was not able to drive anymore, but my dad (her brother) lived close by and took her to appointments and the store or out to eat. Then along comes my cousin, who is a drug addict, convicted felon, and all around crook, and talked my aunt into buying this house way off in the boondocks so they could "live together and help each other out". She promised my aunt the world, that they would go places and do things, etc. Mind you, my cousin is 60, has had everything handed to her her whole life thanks to my aunt, and has no conscience whatsoever. She and my aunt have had a rocky relationship their whole lives. So when my aunt announced she was moving in with my cousin, we were all shocked. She has no other children, and her grandchildren are just as nasty as my cousin is. On top of moving in with her, she made my cousin DPOA, and it used to be my dad. Now, on the occassions that anyone has seen or talked to my aunt since she moved, she has been heavily sedated and not herself. She cried all the time on the phone, saying that my cousin was mean to her. We have all told her we'd help her move home again, as her old house is still there and not sold, but she kept saying "She was stuck now". She is now in a behavioral health unit under observation, after having a fall at their house, and being in a nursing home for a few days. Her behavior in the nursing home was so off-the-wall, that they sent her to the geriatric mental health unit. My dad and I have been to visit her every day since she's been there, and as she is "coming around" again, she is starting to tell us what went on at the home she shared with my cousin. She was drugged involuntarily, she was shown guns, she was grabbed and shook, she was screamed at constantly, and given injections of some sort. She trusts no one, thinks all of her food is drugged and unless we look at the medication first, she won't take it for the nurses at the hospital she is at now. As of yesterday, my cousin has not been to see her, probably because she is out spending my aunts money. (My aunt has close to a million dollars in the bank) and my aunt has told us that several of her antiques have come up missing and that my cousin brings people into the house to show them all she's got. We have gotten a social worker at the hospital involved and told her everything we know. We have pleaded with her to do something so that my aunt does not go back to live with my cousin. My cousin will kill her. She's that bad of a person. And I am just wondering, what obligations the social worker has to protect my aunt at this point. She has had drug screens done, but the results are not back yet. In ohio if you are not the DPOA, it seems they don't take you seriously and that you cannot try and step in and help. I plan to call the Adult Protective Service in her area to talk to them tomorrow. My aunt KNOWS she's been drugged. What can we do to ensure she goes to a safe place and not to live with my cousin again? Can the state be put in charge of her instead of my cousin? Can they check into my cousins background and see she is a dangerous person? Please help! I love my aunt, I don't want her money, I just want her protected and safe, even if the state takes over her care. Anything is appreciated. By the way, we think my cousin is in deep with drug dealers and owed a lot of money, and that is why she suddenly wanted my aunt to move with her. It is our feeling that my aunt would have "come up missing" sooner or later and made to look like she wandered off.
can i have this whole thing moved to another jurisdiction? i have court dates in west virginia, there is a restarining order filed aginst me there which i inadvertantly violated, i thought i could pick up my personal belongings, i was wrong, i was thrown in jail for three days. i have fibromyalgia and complex regional pain syndrome as well as nerve damage in my hands from a car accident. i am medication dependant and extremely sensitive to changes in my enviornment. they gave me nothing, no medication. i take ultram er 300mg, 75 mg lyrica and 60mg morphine everyday. they took me off of all of this, it was torture, i layed on the floor of a shower in the jail for 37 straight hours running cold water over my skin to stop the spiders crawling on me, i eventually lost the sight in my left eye and the feeling in my hands. the gaurds just laughed in my face and told me i was fine. i am still undergoing neurological exams to figure out the problem. at one point my dinner was thrown on the floor and i was forced to scoop it off the floor with my fingers or be chained to the floor for the rest of the night. all of this was in the medical infirmary of the western regional jail in west virginia. i still have not physically recovered form all of this. this also crushed me mentally and left me hospitalized in a psychiatric hospital for 10 days. now they are trying to rvoke my bond, im not even sure why at this point, when i try to call to get information the secreatry just tells me to be in court and they will let me know then what i am dealing with. this is a freakin nightmare and i feel like if they throw me back in there i am going to die this time. is there any way i can have the whole thing moved to ohio? in ohio courts? the criminal charge and the civil revocation of bond thing. i cant afford an attorney and i cant even get to west virginia for the court date. i would give just about anything for this to moved to county where i live because they have a mental health court there and i would be taken care of instead of suffering additional torture because i am ill. i wouldnt even care about going to jail if it was here in ohio. the jail system down there is very different than here.....
Please Help my mom! stroke like sypmtoms, no diagnosis? First of all thank you all for your time and consideration in reading this. Forgive me for being long winded, but i'm trying to include every possible detail, because i don't know if one minor symptom could be the key in finding the answer to my mom's diagnosis. Right now my mother is in the hospital suffering from some very common neurological symptoms of an unknown origin. My mother is a 45 year old white female who lives in the Ohio valley close to Louisville, we live next to an army base and lived in Germany for about three years in the 1980's (mad cow disease was prevalent at that time in Europe). She has had no major health problems, only a history of tubal ligation, allergy to codeine, and what we believed to be hypoglycemic episodes in combination with a variety of small vague symptoms which i believed to possibly be Fibromyalgia. She sometimes complains of neuropathy type pain in her hands and feet. Her blood sugar has bottomed out, causing some slurred speech and lethargy, but after providing some nutrition she has returned to her norm. She has suffered from migraine headaches for several years, and has been treated with a PRN prescription of Imitrex, usually sleep in combination with this medication relieves her symptoms. On the following day after she has had a migraine she complains of her face being sore in the area where the pain originated. She has a very acute sense of smell and often complains of smelling mildew in our home, therefore i considered some sort of toxic mold, however with this last and most acute exacerbation, she was in Ohio visiting family. A few years back a fasting blood sugar revealed impaired glucose metabolism with a blood glucose level of around 117. She has appeared to have refractory hypoglycemia, in which her blood sugar drops in response to eating sugar, unlike normal diabetics who have an increased blood glucose after eating foods rich in sugar. I believed she had just been an undiagnosed brittle diabetic, however, her Hgb A1c was 5. Starting about a month ago, what we believed to be hypoglycemic episodes worsened. She very suddenly started becoming very tired, somewhat lethargic, and confused, sometimes not being able to talk. I am a nurse by the way, and in my clinical experience have seen these symptoms quite frequently. She has had close to 8 of these episodes in about the past month, they have started to increase in intensity, duration, and frequency. Each time she has taken longer to return to her norm, and they last longer. With the very last episode which called for hospitalization, she wasn't able to speak and couldn't even move. We checked her sugar when it happened and it was 67, her pressure was in the 180's, and pulse was slightly tachycardic. She has yet to return to her norm, and continues to appear very tired, and is still slurring her speech and talking very slowly. She is slightly confused at times and has generalized weakness. She has had thyroid and cortisol levels drawn which are both normal. The only abnormal labs have been an ESR and WBC of 12. MRI revealed a sinus infection. I considered it causing some sort of encephalitis or meningitis, but she has had no neck tenderness, her wbc is not extremely high, and she has had no fever. CT, MRI, MR angiography of the brain, EEG, EKG, and carotid Doppler scan have ALL BEEN NEGATIVE! At times her right side seems slightly weaker, her deep tendon reflexes are intact, her pupils are perrla, cranial nerves are intact and WNL, but when asked to do a heel to toe walk she had trouble with her gait and also had difficulty with sliding her heel onto her opposite knee downward. Weakness appears mostly in her lower extremities. Her troponin level came back zero initially, then 1.7, and back to zero when rechecked....(the lab probably mixed up the tubes?). But i thought it was worth mentioning. Again i apologize for being long winded, but i wanted to include every possible clue. Thank you for your time... I forgot to mention a few things....several years ago my mom was in the house when our dehumidifier caught on fire, and there were some toxic fumes she breathed in a little. Since then she has had what seems to be exercise induced asthma. Also as she has aged she has gained more and more weight, but she exercises quite frequently and eats very very lightly and healthy at that..... Baltazar....the doctor is aware thank you! I wouldn't be telling the yahoo community unless they were stumped. Also the MRI did not show any plaque sites consistent with a diagnosis for MS, i'm going to ask the neurologist about a lumbar puncture to rule out protein in the csf fluid....which would be an additional way to indicate Multiple Sclerosis i realize this is yahoo answers, but we have exhausted multiple avenues of consultation without any leads or diagnosis. This is a last resort for me, I thought perhaps someone on here might know of something or someone who found resolve in a similar situation. Ms thank you for your input, i appreciate the thoughtful time you put into your answer. I also considered TIA but the neurologist doesn't seem to agree. mom has had some parkinson like symptoms with tremors and also hasn't been able to stick her tongue out all the way....there are just so many little things i'm praying they can be put together to create a clear picture of whats going on.
Why is this kind of thing happening with regulations in place? Dr. Kao, graduate of Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and a PhD from the University of Pennsylvania, BOTCHED 92 out of 116 Prostate Cancer treatments. And then he tried to cover it up. The VA Hospital in Philadelphia was Accredited by the Joint Commission days after discoveries that something was wrong. "Soon after, the N.R.C. sent its own inspectors to Philadelphia. And the more the inspectors looked, the more they found. All told, 57 of the implants delivered too little radiation to the prostate, either because the seeds missed the prostate or were not distributed properly inside the prostate. Thirty-five other cases involved overdoses to other parts of the body. An unspecified number of patients were both underdosed in the prostate and overdosed elsewhere." As for one of the patients who got a botched treatment, this is what happened: "At first, Pastor Flippin’s implant seemed fine. But 10 months later, he said, he began experiencing bowel pain that worsened with time. Now back in West Virginia, Pastor Flippin sought treatment at a V.A. hospital in Huntington. Doctors there suspected constipation, hemorrhoids or gas. “They gave me suppositories, they gave me flushings, they gave me a rinse where you sit in and everything else,” Pastor Flippin said. “I’m saying none of this is working.” Doctors then prescribed narcotics. “It was just a succession of painkiller after painkiller after painkiller, and it got to the point where I said, ‘I don’t want any more morphine,’ ” Pastor Flippin said. His weight dropped to 109 pounds, a 20 percent loss. He had to quit his job coordinating after-school programs for a coalition of churches in Charleston, W.Va. “This is not working,” he told his doctors. “I’m barely alive, I’m wasting away and you all are not doing anything.” Increasingly desperate, Pastor Flippin sought help from the Ohio State University Medical Center, where a doctor finally made a diagnosis: “Radiation injury to anal canal,” he wrote. Surgery was performed to cover the damaged area with a tissue flap. It would be another year and a half before a letter from the V.A. arrived, informing Pastor Flippin in August 2008 that he had received a flawed implant. “The treatment you received did not meet V.A.’s high standard of care,” the letter said. At this point, it hardly mattered that the V.A. rendered Pastor Flippin’s first name wrong, calling him Richard, rather than Ricardo." http://www.nytimes.com/2009/06/21/health/21radiation.html?pagewanted=1

Does Anyone Else Think Obama is Lying SOB. Like I Do? So many things to list its not funny ! 1) I inherited a 1.3 trillion dollar deficit. Liar, you signed that one 2) The AARP supports our bill. They had to admit it was mis-spoken. Talk about an obvious lie. This one they actually admitted the lie ! 3) I will have the most transparent presidency in history. Laughable. His 1st presidential WH order was to seal all his records. Check into this, its true. 4) The health care will cost under a trillion dollars. Pretty simple, 47 million people x $5,000/person (& that's very low) x 10 years = 2.35 trillion dollars. 5) We have to pass health care for our economy to rebound. Liar ! Clinton said the same thing ! The HC question has absolutely nothing to do with a rebounding economy. Its a quality of life issue and Americans don't believe Obama on this one at all ! 6) They also said They Released a Birth Certificate From Hawaii. It turned out to be a proven fake on about 10 different ways. Liar 7) The Stimulus package is working. That's why we lost 7 million jobs since you took over the White House. Its working great ! 8) When asked about Illegal Aliens being covered in the HC bill, he said "No where in the bill it sais illegal Aliens are covered". Here is the problem, no where in the bill it sais they are not covered. Matter of fact it sais that if you check for illegal status your hospital won't get paid. So, in my opinion, this is a total lie ! 9) I saved 30 new police & fire jobs in Ohio as a result of the Stimulus package. Those police & firemen have all been let go ! 10) The HC bill will be deficit neutral. LOLOLOLOLOLO ! Funny 11) The cap & trade will create million of new jobs. LIAR LIAR. it may create 2 million new green jobs but it will make us lose 5 million jobs due to crazy new taxes ! 12) I will give everyone making under 250 K a tax cut. Did the $1.50 tax on cigarettes not count ( i don't even smoke either) 13) He bashed Bush on Iraq and look at us know. We are still in Iraq & we are accelerating into Afghanistan. Liar ! 14) I could go on forever ! and its only been what 10 months
Help with medical expenses? Hello, I am writing to ask if anyone knows of any way that the average joe, with no health insurance, and not alot of money can get help with a surgery. I know there is HCAP but that is only for the hospital side of things. I am in need of a knee surgery and the Doc I am seeing stated they need $1300 down before they can schedule the surgery. I, unfortunetaly, do not have that kind of money. I have tried looking to the state for help but because I am not disabled or I do not have a kid they advised me they can and will not help. I have called Lutheran Social Services and they also advised me they do not help in that way. So I ask for help, if anyone has any suggestions that would be greatly appreciated. I live in Northwest Ohio and have tried looking on the internet for something but nothing has come up. Thanks, J
BS in Respiratory Therapy useful? I'm currently a freshman at The Ohio State University. My major is Biology, and I'm in the honors program. After my first quarter at school I realized that I really didn't enjoy chemistry. I previously wanted to be a dentist, which requires many advanced courses in chemistry and so I have been reconsidering my aspirations and looking for other health care related fields that I could get in to. OSU offers a BS in Respiratory Therapy. I have read many descriptions of this job and it sounds amazing! Really interesting and many different areas I could work in: home care or ER or pediatrics at the hospital. It just really caught my attention. My only concern is that many people become Respiratory Therapists (whether it be CRT or RRT) by just getting their associates degree. Does anyone know if there is any real added benefit to getting a bachelor's degree in RT? I'm worried that I will be spending more money on this degree than other RRT's and I won't be getting any added benefits. Would I be more likely to get jobs over those with just associate degrees? Would I get paid more? What kind of advancement would a BS give me in this field? Any suggestions or information would be great! Thanks!
The woman, Trina Bachtel, did die last August, two weeks after her baby boy was stillborn at O’Bleness Memorial Hospital in Athens, Ohio. But hospital administrators said Friday that Ms. Bachtel was under the care of an obstetrics practice affiliated with the hospital, that she was never refused treatment and that she was, in fact, insured. Trustworthy or not? I don't think so...
Law for convicting a rapist? My daughter was molested by her step-brother when she was 9 and raped at 13. When she was 13, the step-brother was 17 a few months from 18. The rape was violent...he raped her while she was sleeping and he pushed her face into her pillow, so that the rest of the family wouldn't hear her scream...she thought she was going to dye...for years, I couldn't understand how this sweet little girl was so angry all the time. I started therapy for her when she was 10...I also got therapy for myself, and my husband, my daughters step-father...we thought she didn't like my husband....I found out she got raped by reading a note that she was passing back and forth between a friend in school.....when she found out that I found the note she went ballistic, it seemed as if she was having a nervous break down. Before she found I that I discovered the note...I had called her dad. He was out of town on business, but was somewhat near by...I told him I was going to take her to the hospital because she's freaking out...he said he would come right over and he did and we took her to the hospital. When I found the note, she was 15 and she just turned 18 this month. There is a ton of more information...I did take her to the police station to press charges...the detective had no doubt that it happened. He said it was going to be extremely difficult to prove it...I told him I have a pile high evidence and personal letters from all the professional help she has received over the years. Her step mom also emotionally abused her which led to her physically assaulting her...my ex-husband did witness it and he just told our daughter to run, and he will get his keys and pick her up to take to my house. Also, back when the molesting started...I had noticed severe bruising on both of my daughters arms...I freaked out and asked her what on earth happened...she refused to tell me and I called her father...he didn't want to tell me at first, but then ended up admitting what happened and begged me not to press charges then, which I wished I did...I did however, get pictures, and witnesses. The detective that was on the case was seeming to be on our side and on fire to get justice for my daughter....he had a super hard time tracking her abuser down...when he brought him in for questioning, this kid didn't speak a word...other than, "I want an attorney." The detective gave him a time frame, and had a super hard time again tracking him down for a second time...when he finally got a hold of him, he had a lie detector set up, but the kid never showed up...that's when the detective gave up, never took my calls, I went over his head, never got anywhere...went all the way up the chain, and for the past several years, have had no success. I'm having a hard time finding an attorney that will take my case. I don't know where to start...but many people, mainly health care professionals, are encouraging me to never give up because this kid is going to do it again, and he needs to be in prison, because he is a violent person. This took place in Toledo, Ohio....at the time, I had shared parenting, but was granted full-custody and a restraining order was granted for not only my daughter but me as well...plus...her step-mom is never allowed anywhere near my daughter, any of her kids, and any of her whole family.....however...they are coming up to expire and my daughter is on a daily basis severely concerned when that time comes. I have hit a dead road, but I need to find another route, but not sure where to go. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time and help.
Swine flu: Does this make you feel better or just as worried? Here's the story of the first confirmed swine flu victim... Leyva's widow said he first noticed flu symptoms on April 13, and went to the local clinic in Xonacatlan (Shoh-nah-cah-TLAN). No one was available to give him a checkup, but he was given a shot and felt well enough the next day to make the 40-mile bus trip to Mexico City, taking subways to work despite a nasty cough. Too sick to work again after that, he still had no medical care except for a penicillin injection his niece gave him. By the night of April 19, he was having trouble breathing and had an irregular heartbeat, and so his family took him to the nearby city of Toluca, where the poor can get discounted care at a large public hospital. By 8 a.m. the next day, he was dead. His family was told the cause was a heart attack brought on by pneumonia. notice key words - no one available to give him a check up... neice gave him penicilin shot (no word on if the niece was even a nurse)... where the poor can get discounted care... neighbor with loose running pigs next door. could this be why we're seeing so many deaths in Mexico compared to the other countries? Because one boy in Ohio who is recovering is said to have been diagnosed with the SAME strain as the virus killing Mexicans. some are also saying that since this is the middle of flu season in mexico, there could also be underlying health problems that were exasperated by this new flu. Knowing this... does this make you feel better should this become pandemic, about surviving, or are you still worried? I don't know why they aren't focusing on this in the media... the fact sanitation is bad in Mexico, the fact healthcare sucks there... I mean look at this guy... he didn't get checked over, his neice who wasn't referred to as a nurse, gave him penicilin even though she didn't know what he was sick with... then he had to go to a city were the poor can get discounted care. The guy was living next to a neighbor with a small pig farm... it couldn't have been sanitary... methinks that may have contributed to the swine flu deaths. But i think people are afraid to say it because it would be insulting to Mexico/Mexicans. Lol... "you think you know me" first, what you said made no sense... but let me say this... there are millions upon millions of the antiviral world wide, only a total of say 2,000 confirmed cases thus far. That leaves us millions upon millions of the antiviral. They are currently making more of the antiviral for in case there is a pandemic, and there will be a vaccination in the works for should that moment happen too.
Fired for medical benefits? My company recently let someone go. The reason they gave her was that her position was being eliminated. We are, however, currently interviewing candidates to fill her position. She recently found out her son as liver disease and will be in and out of the hospital for awhile. She also found out that she has breast cancer. Both of these of course would affect the company's health insurance rates. As an IT person, the management had me compile reports of email, web usage, and phone calls, none of which turned up anything at all in violation of company policy. In short, she was a model employee. My question is this - is this legal? I realize that we are all at will employees (Ohio), but are there not exceptions and actual wrongful terminations?
My parents are not understanding of my wanting to join the Navy...? I understand that the world sucks right now and that there is two wars going on. But If I join I will be going in for nursing. They even have something called the Nurse Corps. I am looking into the Navy because it has always been in the back of my mind. I am tired of letting things hold me back from the things I've always wanted to do, like see the world how it really is and experience as much as I can. I will also get education and the skills I need for a career in nursing and the Navy even has hospital ships that I can work on. I will receive money for college, decent pay and will also have nursing school paid for. I do not like traditional classroom learning and I learn my best with hands on. I need an attitude adjustment as well, Lil. Yes, the thought of boot camp scares me, but I can get my butt in proper shape since I cannot even do much besides enlist until May 09. My biggest thing is to see how the world truly is and experience it. I love ships, the ocean and going places and helping people. My parents are completely unsupportive and say I can do all of this here in Ohio...I cannot afford to travel or go to school full time and focus 100% on my studies because I have to work full time for health insurance and to support my self because I enjoy living on my own. They want me to move back home and such...which I do not want to do. I feel lost, confused and don't know who I am. My mom even says the military is good for people like that. I need direction and to be independent. I've let to much get me down and now I want to better myslef and look into my future and life. I'll be 20 in thee weeks and am compleatly unhappy with almost every part of my life. I want to change and get away and better myself. How can I get my parents to be supportive. Or should I just go and enlist. I've explained all of the above to them and they still don't understand.

Why did this not make headline news....? Update: Readers wishing to send Airman Schieken a get-well card and thank him for his service to our country can reach him at: Jonathan Schrieken Room 720 by the door Cooper University Hospital 1 Cooper Plaza Camden NJ 08103 http://news.yahoo.com/s/uc/20070711/cm_uc_crmmax/op_193253 Obviously some are answering without reading it.
