Why don't mental asylums have bars on the windows like jails do? I notice that jails are all barred up around. I don't know why mental asylums in hospitals aren't barred up like the jails are.

What do you think of the old mental asylums? I think every city and every town has a derelict asylum, a big renovated mansion left for the elements and decay. I feel attracted to these places, the fact many people lived and died in those buildings sharing happy and sad moments. Can you think of any films that paint mental asylums in a nice light? Essay topic - Mental asylums!? I need to write an essay on "criticism of social institutions" ex. mental asylums. This is because I read "one flew over the cuckoo's nest" as a novel for a novel study. I have some general ideas, but can anyone help me with some arguments? Our teacher requires us to have 9. 3 per body paragraph + proofs. There are 3 paragraphs, and a concluding statement. Some argument ideas I came up with: 1) False diagnosis of so called 'mental ilnesses' 2) unnessecary usage of medication 3) Unexamined abuse or misuse of power *wiki* 4) Compromisation of ethics because of pharmaceutical company deals within the hospital 5) Punishments which are over-the-top (EST (electric shock therapy) , Labotomy ) etc.. 6) Psychiatric "treatment" is often more harmful than helpful 7) Destruction of individualism 8) using fear as a powerful motivator in enforcing conformity, obedience and making people submit to authority. 9) Forcable treatments / hospitilization Any ideas / comments on my arguemnts so far, any other help would be mad appreciated!

Mental hospitals/asylums for "alien-abducted" patients? I recall my aunt telling me an interesting story about when she lived in Kansas City about her friend who worked as an RN at a mental hospital in the middle of nowhere in Kansas. Apparently, this asylum she worked at had a majority of patients who had gone insane and claimed they had been abducted by aliens. There were really weird stories. An example: The people weren't loud or rowdy, mostly they were just really anxious and quiet. There was a visiting area in the hospital for family members, and in the waiting room there was a payphone. Every so often the payphone would ring, but there would be a different ring every time, and every time the pay phone goes off with a certain ring, an 'alien-abducted' patient in the asylum is just set off like a bomb. They scream and cry and yell words no one can understand. They scratch at the doors and the walls of their room until their fingers bleed. I don't know much else, but I tried searching it on the internet with obviously no help. Has anyone else heard of this or know some information regarding the subject?

La Rundel Mental Asylum - Bundoora VIC? I am wanting to know the history behind why the La Rundel Mental Asylum on Plenty Road Bundoora VIC closed down. Apparently it's meant to be haunted. It's an abandened mental asylum that was closed about 10 years ago and opened In the early 20's Rumours around our school that It's haunted, and things like Larundel Chapel ect. I started to write to copy out important points from the textbook in COLOR on a notebook; i recorded my voice in the computer (too boring); I talked to myself. Now....as you know, in history, there's source based and essay questions. Since in essay Questions you have to like so called define the "thing" like world war 2 or whatever...so i wrote cards for just the definition...my school teaches a mix of geog and hist together. So i have essay questions on geog. The problem is i have chapters e.g. water - about national taps and technological advances e.g desalination, osmosis and there are benefits and disadvantages...if i write all this on the card i'm gonna die. if i write it in the original book i'm still gonna die. I dont know why. But i hate to stare. I hate ARRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I JUST CANT FINISH THE WHOLE CHAPTER IN NOTE CARDS NOR IN THE WHOLE BOOK I AM MADDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD...
