affliated hospitals question?
i had gone to the hospital where my sister lives i live in another county im going to the hospital in my county these hospitals are affiliated with each other i know they allready have my insurance info on there computer but would they have my medical info as well and the reason for the previuos visit

- No probably not. The insurance info may be put into the computer system, but the past medical info is usually written in a paper file (not on the computer) and never inputted into the computer, in which case they would have to request a file transfer to get it from the first hospital to the second.
- It depends on whether or not they have an electronic medical record. If they do, and it is being used (some doctors still write on paper), then they would have your information. Information can be freely shared between hospitals and doctors with a fax machine, however. It is technically not even necessary to gain your permission for one doctor to speak to another about your medical conditions. However, most hospitals require a signed consent if information is going to be faxed/copied/sent. By no means is the sharing of medical information automatic, however. It would save a great deal of money and time if it were - doctors would not have to repeat so many tests if they had the most recent results available.
