How long it takes for birth certificate to come in the mail after applying at the hospital for newborn???

I had a baby on 9th of February, 2008 at Methodist Hospital, NYC. Can anyone tell me when I will get birth certificate for my baby? I called the hospital they said application had been sent on February 21st, 2008. I really need it ASAP. Is there any way to speed the process? Should I go to the office personally. I know that for copies one could go and get the BC same day. Please help???

1. about 2 wks is the average here in Ohio.
2. im in cali and got mine in 30 days. but i had to pick it up from the county clerk.
3. It took about 1-2 months after the hospital for me. I cant recall exactly but it was around that time. Im not sure if there is a way you can get it sooner.

5. My husband picked up our baby's birth certificate less than 2 weeks after he was born in Minnesota. Go where ever they keep vital records, the hospital should send the application by the time you discharge from the hospital.
6. you usually have to wait 30- 60 days after the baby is born to APPLY for one. You then call/ go to your local vital records office and order one. It takes @ 2weeks after ordering it for tthe actuall on to arrive. The one the hospital gives out is just a 'souviener certificate'. The offical one takes time to be documented... Go to your states web site and look for the section on vital records- there is normally an area in the FAQ about birth certificates...some states let you order them online- and yes- they cost- $20 in Tx
7. Here in Colorado you have to request it and pay for it. If you go to the vital records office it will take less time to get it. I would call them first and make sure tho

9. Personally, when I had my daughter the hospital mailed the application out for me. I went to the Vital Statistics office 2 weeks after she was born and they still didnt have her in the system so I pre-paid for a birth certificate and the lady said they'd mail it to me when they got her in their system. She wasn't even put into the system until almost 22days after she was born then it took about a week longer to get the certificate, so we didnt actually get her birth certificate until about a month after she was born. I do think its retarded that we had to pay for a copy of her birth certificate though. Her social security card took about 10wks from birth to get... good luck!

My twins were born on Long Island and it took over a month cause they were so backed up. became very frestrating because my insurance didn't acknowledge them without those.I don't know how to speed it up I just called the hosp for info and status.good luck. social security #'s arrived in 2 weeks figure that one out. but that's NY for ya.
