Do hospitals accept non-citizens on a visitor visa giving birth in the United States?
If a woman is in the United States on a legal visitor visa and she needs to give birth, are hospitals obligated to take care of her or not? What would the procedures be? If yes, how long do they take care of the mother before/during birth and after? Or is it just a matter of having some kind of health insurance? Also, I have previously heard that mothers of babies born in the United States (citizens by birth that is) are allowed to legally stay in this country. Is that true and what is this based on in the legislature? Same questions for a woman in the US on an expired visitor visa. Would she be allowed/denied hospital stay for birth, etc.? Thanks a lot. Any extra information about this type of situation would be helpful.

- Federal law requires hospitals to accept anyone for emergency services. Childbirth would fall under this category. The hospital will require payment through insurance or personal payment. Mother of child born in the U.S. do not aquire any immigration benefits and would be subject to deportation if the mother is out of status (illegal). The U.S. citizen child could petition for the mother of father when he or she turns 21.
- THAT PERSON WILL GET TO STAY IN THE UNITED STATES WHETER IS LEGAL OR ILLEGAL.. MY MOM WAS ILLEGAL WHEN SHE HAD MY LITTLE BROTHER AND RIGHT AFTER THAT SHE WAS GIVEN THE GREEN CARD..
- well i think they should take care of her because many illegal immigrants come here and have children in hospitals without any problems
