Medical Malpractice

Does anyone know of any old insane asylums?

I'm wanting to write a ghost story about one, so I'm wanting to know some of the old, cruel methods they used. Like the lobotomies at Danvers state. Plus, I find it an interesting topic. Sites would be helpful. Thank you!

  1. You'll want to rent an old Jack Nicholson movie called "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" - you should find plenty of inspirational material in there. Best of luck on your story, ~M~
  2. Norwich State Hospital - Connecticut used ECT, electroconvulsive therapy, but I don't think they used it at Norwich. There was also an old asylum on Puget Sound in Washington that used to get visits at night by Navy personnel in the base across the bay. That was written about already, though.
  3. Check out wkipedia.org. Or google 'Insane Asylums'. Then go from there.
  4. Watch "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" with Jack Nicholson in it. He gets put in an old asylum.
  5. Yeah. Electro shock therapy. BZZT. Also forced confinement for years at a time. I break into them to snoop occasionally..XD
  6. You don't say which country you're in ...although I assume England! 'Bedlam', is the obvious one. It still stands and is now (and has been for years) as ''The Imperial War Meuse um'' in Kennington, London (UK). Also, there was a HUGE one at a place called 'Shenley' on the NW edge of London, and it had quite a history. Sorry, can't supply you with any other details you asked for presently. Sash.
  7. http://dmh.dc.gov/dmh/cwp/view,a,3,q,516064.asp 150 years old, where President Reagan's attempted assassin is housed.....
