Does the US grants asylum status to the citizens of western countries on humanitarian basis?
I know all western countries are democracies, so I'm not talking about political asylum.

- No, there is no humanitarian category. Perhaps every grant of asylum has a humanitarian touch to it. The U.S. grants asylum to those aliens who can prove that they meet the definition of a refugee. The term "refugee" means: Any person who is outside any country of such person's nationality or, in the case of a person having no nationality,is outside any country in which such person last habitually resided, and who is unable or unwilling to return to, and is unable or unwilling to avail himself or herself of the protection of, that country because of persecution or a well-founded fear of persecution on account of race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group, or political opinion,
- We'd have half the population of Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, etc. coming here. USA would have to feed every hungry, sick, pregnant, 3rd world inhabitant who comes here if that were the case. Wait--we already do! :(
- Asylum is granted on the bases of need. Most western countries are democarcy, and don't develop 'need'. I would be astonished if there were need developed for any western country. Per the rest of the countries of the world.. they develop need constantly. They don't even want to go to 'same langauge' countries. We need to let them stay home and fix their countries instead of pulling all the 'freedom fighters' out with amnesty.
- By western countries I assume you mean Europe? If that is the case then the answer if 0, as in zero. The Europeans are mostly white which doesn't fit the racist victims status ideal of the liberals guilt complex in America.
- There is no difference between asylum and political asylum, or rather there is no legal concept of asylum outside of the structure that exists for political asylum. Maybe you should tell us a bit more what it is you're thinking of. What would be the basis of applying for "asylum" on a humanitarian basis in your thinking? Why would someone from a Western democracy need asylum in the US, or elsewhere? Aside from political asylum there is also Humanitarian Parole, which can allow someone who is otherwise ineligible for a visa permission to enter the US temporarily. But again, why would someone from a Western democracy need that?
