Medical Malpractice

Why do most hospitals in America overcharge patients and say the overcharges are just mistake?

Hospitals fraudulantly overcharging patients should never be tolerated!! 90% of all hospital bills have so-called "errors." BUT ALL the errors are outrageous overcharges, such as a patient being charged for two appendices (huh?) removed.

  1. Because America is Evil. Hospitals are Evil, Oil Companies are Evil, Corporations are Evil, Government is Evil. Everybody....Everybody is lined up against poor little you, the good guy
  2. Most people don't know how to read the bills or don't know their insurance policies. The hospitals and medical centers do it because they know this and can get away with it.
  3. I also dont think we need to be charged 23 bucks for a band aid.Lets be realtistic here.Hillary promised to do something about it when bill was in white house we need reform we need it now!! no patient should be denied insurance because you already have prediagnosed illness diabetes, dwarfism etc...its discrimnation at its best
  4. What makes you say the charges are being called mistakes? Are you speaking from personal experience? That's quite an indictment to be making against all hospitals or hospitals in general. They overcharge anyway, according to Medicare and some insurances. If you've never seen a hospital bill check this out. There is a charge for services, say $8,200. Then there is the Medicare adjustment subtracting half that amount, -$4,100. Then there is the amount Medicare paid out, -$3,280, then there is the amount (20%) owed by the patient as the final bill. When I look at that I have to wonder if Joe Blow who is not on Medicare has to pay the full $8,200 or whether his insurance company will approve only so much of that as well? Doctors and hospitals bill at nearly twice what they know the insurances and MediCare/MediCaid will pay so they can write off the difference as a loss and save money on their taxes.
