Medical Malpractice

How can I find out if my Dr has been sued for medical malpractice?

Is there a website (that doesn't charge) that allows me to find out the my doctor has been sued for medical malpractice before I have surgery?

  1. You usually can't find out if a physician has been sued, but you can find if any disciplinary action has been taken against his/her license. You don't mention what state you're in, so search for "[your state] Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision". Most states have websites that allow you to view this information. For example, Oklahoma's site is http://www.okmedicalboard.org/./display.php?content=md_search_advanced:md_search_advanced. (Try it--it's interesting to see how many docs are on probation for drug and alcohol abuse.)
  2. You can research their criminal background, i think each state has their own website for it, north carolina's is www.nc123.com.
