what are asylums?

Are they the same as refugeess?

1. No. Asylums are basically nut-houses.
2. Not always nut houses (but sometimes). An asylum is any establishment where people are sent for organized rehabilitation. Hence, "insane asylum."

7. It depends on how it's used. There is "political asylum" which is basically a type of refugee who is afraid to stay in their own country and is asking for help and aid in another country because they are afraid they will be harmed or killed. And then there is the institution where blind, insane or orphans are cared for.
8. asylums are for crazy poeple and refugees are places to go to when you are in danger of something.
9. Asymlum is asked for in the US, wheras you can get refugee status in a foreign country. Both state that you are unable to return to your home country, often because of persecution.
