Can I get into UNC Chapel Hill?

I am a High School Sophomore in a North Carolina high school (so I am in state). My current GPA is a 4.25, but I have done the calculations and if I get A's in all my classes next year I will have a 4.7 (I regret slacking off a little this year and my freshman year, but have only recieved 4 B's and am taking all honors classes and 4 AP classes next year. I am in the Key Club, Treasurer of SADD Club, Non-fiction editor of our school literary magazine, captain of my homeroom, and sophomore class representative for our school's business alliance. I am in a community service club outside of school and volunteer frequently at the local hospital. My mom, dad, and my sister went to UNC Chapel Hill and my mom gives a lot of money annually to the nursing program (if that counts any). I am very passionate about writing and know that my essays will be above average; I have not yet taken my SATs but am hessitant to say I will score above average. I plan to apply early admission senior year.

  1. Your unweighted GPA is? I'll assume around 3.7 or so. And we'll assume an SAT of 2000 (this would be a conservative estimate based on your weighted GPA). Money is relative, over $10,000+ a year to the nursing program will begin to influence admissions ($50,000+ a year should substantially increase admission chances to almost guaranteed). Sorry, but "buying" an acceptance letter is not a cheap process (I'm not implying that's what you're doing, just that donating alone won't guarantee anything). Alumni connections will help a little bit. Assuming you maintain your current academic achievement, you should have a good chance of getting into UNC although you should focus a little more on one or two extracurriculars (say SADD Club and the school literary magazine) and rack up some concrete accomplishments in leadership positions. Your in-state residency and early admissions application should make you a very ideal candidate. Conclusion: It is pretty likely you'll get into UNC if you keep up what you're doing. Best of luck.
