Does anyone know if there are abandon mental asylums in houston?

I need to do a photography project and an abandoned place would be perfect.

1. If there are, you had better get permission to photograph, because the owner is not going to take kindly to you rambling around the property. Someone owns it (if it even exists).
2. There are none that I know of in Houston. Every square inch of building space in Houston is still occupied by Katrina refugees. Go down to the docks and head for abandoned railroad spurs. You can occasionally find vacant buildings at the termination. (Although I have found that security is much higher around the Port of Houston than it was in the 1990s. You may not even have access to the old railroads anymore.) Keep in mind that abandoned does not mean unowned. Generally, messing around in old buildings is trespassing and is fairly unsafe.
