Medical Malpractice

My father-in-law died in the hospital and does not have medical insurance.Do we have to pay his medical bills?

I have no idea how this works. Who will be the one to pay fior my father in laws medical bills.

1. I don't know, but DO NOT volunteer to do it without talking to a lawyer first. If you volunteer to pay and then change your mind they might have some legal rights to make you keep on with it. I would see a good lawyer who specializes in health cases.
2. You're not personally responsible, but his estate is. Any money that he left behind, and any insurance policy, would have to be used to pay his remaining bills. If there's not enough, the bills would be written off unless they were jointly made, like a second person on a mortgage, or a co-signer.
3. Not unless your name is on them. If your name or signature is not on any paperwork, then you don't have to pay a dime. When my Mom passed, I never paid a cent because I never signed any paperwork, except for her caregivers from the agency.
