Where can I find affordable health insurance with no waiting period for maternity coverage?

We're residents of Virginia, but use a doctor and hospital in North Carolina, and can't seem to find a thing. Doesn't need to pick it up as a pre-existing condition. Ehealthinsurance.com didn't find a thing for us. Any help is appreciated.

  1. You will never find a private plan that covers maternity. And if it did, it would be so expensive that you're better off paying cash. Insurance companies know that if you try to get maternity insurance that you are going to...duh...get pregnant. Group health is your only option I'm sorry to say. But do tell your doctor that you don't have insurance, and he/she will probably reduce your office visit payment. And you should also start putting some money toward the delivery. Good luck!
  2. Group coverage in VA does not allow pre-existing coverage exclusion for pregnancy, So if you can somehow become part of a group (employer, trade association etc.) that might help. If u or your significant other own or work for small business, it is possible to set up a group plan where the employer make no contriubution. Typically to be considered a group at least two or three employees must opt for the coverage. If you are low income the Virginia FAMIS program applies to Pregnant MOMs - http://www.famis.org/moms.cfm?lang=English If your income is higher and you pay federal taxes, you might want to look into HSA's http://www.nasro-co-op.com/health/hsa/index.shtml
  3. I am in the same situation as yourself. In my research I've found what the others have said: No one wants to cover you if you are already pregnant! I did find something called Maternity Card. It is NOT insurance, but somehow you are able to take advantage of discounts they get through being part of a network... they can explain it better than I can! I am nervous to try this option - does anyone out there know anything about Maternity Card and whether it is worth the money? http://www.maternitycard.com
