Chances at Vanderbilt, Georgetown, Johns Hopkins, University of Chicago?

These are the some of the schools I'm applying to. Of course, I have some other schools, and some safeties, but I was wondering what my chances are for these. Here's my HS profile: Have taken the most rigorous roster offered at my school since freshman year Currently in IB program, but taking AP courses at the same time (basically, at our school, if you're in IB, you're also considered an AP student, and have to take the AP exams too - right now, i'm taking AP calc, AP physics, AP english, AP french 5, AP U.S. history, and at the same time, they're IB too, so I also take TOK) Rank = 1/323ish (its around 323, but i'm not too sure of the exact number) ACT score = 26 (I know this sucks; idk what happened here, but I retook it, and hopefully, I did better) Activities: Varisity Volleyball - 3years (senoir year was one of the captains) National Honor Society - 11th and 12th grade French Club - Secretary Debate team Brain Bee - 2 years Model United Nations - 3 years Newspaper Committee Principal's Council Advisory Veteran's History project - 2 years Judged middle school science fair Took 1 class at a community college nearby last summer, and I'm scheduled to take 3 more classes this spring Been in the honor roll since freshman year Recieved recognition by Congresswoman Allyson Schwartz for the Veterans History Project Honorable Mention for all public in Volleyball Selected and recieved an award at the National Language Convention Recieved a couple of "best of" awards in junior and sophomore year (basically, these awards recognize you as the best in your class in that particular subject) Volunteer Work: Went on Whosoever Gospel Mission Trip and cleaned down the burned building which was used as shelter for some people with few resources Volunteered at a Library nearby for about 30 hours Volunteered at the High School Exposition, where I represented my high school Went on the Multiple Sclerosis Walk Will be volunteering soon (in about a week) at a nearby hospital That's really all I can remember right now. I've also been in math competitions, but I don't think that counts. My ACT scores are horrible. I really don't know what happened there; I retook them, and hopefully I did better. But, do i have any chances at any of these schools? Please be honest. I really appreciate any help. Thanks a lot! GPA - 4.0 I'm not exactly sure what it is weighted, but I only have A's on my transcript.

  1. That is a great rundown. You have a ton of extracurricular activities and being top in the class with such a tough course load should hopefully overcome the ACT score. I would still keep taking it and try to get in the 30s just to be safe. Good luck
  2. Go Hoyas! Georgetown is my alma mater. I would suggest you take the SAT as well. I know the ACT is surging as an alternative in certain areas of the country, but I think having the SAT under you better is very helpful. Everything else sounds great. Just gotta get on top of those standardized exams. Good luck!
  3. I think you have a great chance. University of Chicago may be the only one which you wouldn't 100% get into, but would probably get in get accepted. I mean I can't tell you for sure, but I think you will. Those ACT scores may hurt you, but everything else looks good. It may depend on how your new scores our. Good Luck!
  4. You don't tell us your GPA -- which is one of the most important pieces of information. You also give us a lot of information that isn't really relevant (telling us you have lots of activities helps -- naming them takes up space). Extracurriculars are easy to pad, but hard to verify. Schools don't rely on them nearly as much as people think. I assume your GPA is pretty good if you are ranked first in your class. However, your ACT scores are on the low side of those accepted at those schools. I suspect that your admissions essays will determine whether or not you can get into these schools. If you sent in a well crafted essay, then I think you have a shot at all of them. If this question is a representative sample of your writing style, you better hope your safety schools come through for you.
  5. Your stats look pretty good, similar to mine (except that I'm salutatorian) but your ACTs might give you a downturn, I had the same problem since my SAT scores (culmutative of 1970) were below the middle 50 range in some of the colleges I applied to, nonetheless, I got admitted to the University of Chicago. You should try to take the SATs as well, maybe you'll do better on those, the bad thing is that time is running out, and standardized tests can be a really important factor of your application. Don't stress to much about it, my essay sucked for UofC and I still got in, and the other colleges I applied to for early decision where I worked harder, I didn't. As far as the other colleges, your chances are extremely good.
  6. Well, you have quite an achievement in your extracurricular activity with all the sports and volunteering work. That's good and u can put that in ur CV. Having to face AP and IB as well, I'm sure that u r damnly busy. I guest, the chance for you to get to one of those uni is there provided that you can improve ur mark on ACT...But u seems have determination to go to those uni. I believe that u can do it.. All you need now is to pray hard. Wish you all the best.
