Please explain why veterans can't use hospital of their choice but must use VA hospitals?

Please explain how veterans are stuck in VA system? I don't know how that works.

1. I'm a vet and with tricare i can use pretty much any hospital i want
2. The government doesn't want to, or can't afford to, pay for the soldiers to go to the hospital of their choice. That's one of the benefits of our health care system.
3. It is the government's HMO.
4. Ron Paul has a good point about Govt healthcare--it would be like a nightmare. If Vets(I saw the testimonies @W Reed) aren't given the utmost care......?
5. It's a cost factor. VA hospitals are very efficient and purchase drugs at a much lower price. I'm satisfied with the VA as are the great majority of patients. Vets receiving VA care live 40% longer over age 65 than those using Medicare private doctors.
