What is the difference in hospitals?
I would like to know what the difference is between different hospitals like Sharp, Scripps, VA hospital, Children's Hospital, etc. I thought they all depend on the doctor anyways. Why do they compete for you to be their patient. Aren't they all non profit? I never understood how hospitals work.

- They compete because they think patient will chose one hospital over another. But just like you said, patients are going to follow thier docotor anyway. The difference is that they are own, or ran by different people. There are government hospitals (VA), university hospitals (research based), community hospitals, christian not-for-profit and so on and so forth. Some hospitals those may boast about thier expertise in certain areas such as cancer or transplant so that may be one research to compete. I guess.
- it depends on the patient i think here is a link explaining it :D hope you find what you want to know ^^ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hospital#Types
