What are my chances of getting into University of Chicago?

I have a 3.34 weighted GPA and I'm in my junior year. I plan to end with a 3.5 weighted gpa. My extracurricular activities include playing bass guitar and guitar. I play in a band currently and they are going to play a gig this year at our high school. I'm planning on doing some community service at a hospital. I had a summer job that involved painting houses. I also have taken summer school classes and I'm indian. I will have taken about 5 AP classes by the end of my high school years(AP European history, AP macroecon, AP Psyc, AP calc ab, AP Biology). I've only taken the PSAT so far, but I got a 1600 or a 1700 on it. I'm going to be taking SAT Prep classes before I take the SAT. So what are my chances of getting in and how can I increase them if they aren't very good? I just started my junior year. BTW, my school is the best in the state academiclly, in sports, and other stuff. So i dont know if that factors in. Most of our regular classes such as Biology and Chemistry are equivalent to the honors classes of them at other schools. What do you mean slim to none? My school is the best in the state of indiana and my gpa would technically be around 3.8 or 4.0 if i was at some other school. My AP classes are also outstanding and so are my extracirriculars.

  2. I think your numbers are a little low, but you can check the stats on the UChi website and see how you compare. The thing about UChi is that the students who apply there are very 'self-selecting'. UChi is not for everyone... it is a school where you will be surrounded by kids who really like to study. They are famous for it -- "where fun comes to die" is the unofficial motto. So there is no point in applying there unless you want to be in an atmosphere of serious, really hard working scholars. As far as your school, everyone thinks their school is special, but the real test comes when you compare your SAT scores against the scores from kids at other schools. If your school is as hot as you say, you should easily be getting a Merit scholarship and top SAT scores - if I remember rightly UChi has more Merit scholars than any Ivy except maybe Harvard. And, every school has APs but how did you score on the AP tests? If you don't get 5's on the tests then the AP course didnt mean much, did it? One of my kids best friends went there and he had 12 APs and got 5's in all the tests but one. You are in a grey area here. Getting top grades (that means A's) and scoring well on your SATs will give you a much stronger application. But are you sure that UChi is the school you want?
