Insurance benefits at hospitals?
When i'm done with school in about 6 months i'm going to be working in a hospital. Hospitals usually have excellent health benefits right? Is there an advantage of getting pregnant while working in a hospital verses working somewhere else? Do most hospitals offer free or reduced rate childcare while the parent is working? I am just trying to set my life up before getting pregnant. I'm trying to find out the best way to do things. It's all i can think about..

- i didnt even know that hospitals offer childcare at all for their staff, let alone at a discounted rate, so that would be a plus to me! i work for a state prison and they dont even offer childcare!
- i work in a hospital and my benefits are great i have three children and one on the way, my insurance cost is low but i do have a $500 deductible, but it is alot better then paying for the whole thing witch is thousands. As for child care most hospitals don't have on site day cares and they don't help pay for them to go. But there is a government program called child care information services and they will be able to help you find low cost providers.
- There is no generalized thing that you can assume about any hospital. You just have to ask. Most major hospital employers in my area have daycare reimbursement, but it in no way provides for free child care. You also have the option to use the sick child care at the community hospital on a reduced basis. Don't know where you live, but I think Allina (MN) will be hiring more next year when the new hospital opens.
- Trust me, it depends where you work. Depending on what your job is plays a role too. Most hospitals do not offer daycare, only a handful do. The other benefits, like insurance and sick pay are usually pretty good. Don't forget that some shifts are 12 hours, rotating, on call and other various things.
