Are their any insane asylums still running?

- County and state hospitals. They don't call them by that name anymore, though. 'Mental Health Institution' or 'Health Services' are more likely terms. There are also private hosptals or treament facilities as well.
- Yes....Like the above poster mentioned. In the United States There is one that takes up almost an entire city and employees everyone in it. The city of Chattahoochee..and the hospital named Chattahoochee...I have heard many scary tales of this place from correction officers and staff. The low levels to the highest levels of mentally ill end up there..some till death. It is not a so called "private institution" because many wards of the state's prison system can end up there if they are too much for the the daily operations of a prison psychiatric ward to handle. These people are locked down in the highest level. There is a geriatric ward as well for the elderly with dementia and Alzheimer's. The hospital can and does have the power to have the patients assets like home deed or social security money turned over to Chattahoochee. To pay for the hospital care which can be many years and the hospital in turn handles the disposition of the deceased. In the past history of this place Mental Health advocates had to "clean it up." There were many atrocities committed by the hospitals to the patients in recent years bed sores to the bone and in it's past unmarked graves on the property left over from the 1950's. In more than Sixty years Chattahoochee Hospital has a grim history that dates back to the civil war until today. It was originally used by Confederate troops. It still stands today and is fully operational and in every sense of the word an "insane asylum"...and an eerie and strange presence in this part of Florida that is almost surreal. If you are into this sort of grisly fascination..it is always there to see if you are in the Tallahasse area.
- The one that vangoh stayed in when he was alive is still running
