Looking for stories of unmarried pregnant women locked up in asylums in the early 20th century - 1920s/30s/40s?

I've read a lot about the Magdalene Laundries but want to know more about the situation (especially in England) earlier in the century and would be interested in signposts to accounts of the lives of women who were shut up in asylums for years after becoming pregnant out of wedlock.
