Medical Malpractice?
If a physician is convicted of medical malpractice, what is usually the punishment they will face as a result?

- Financially have to pay the injured party usually. Contact a lawyer willing to take your case. But usually there alot of appeals, and if someone did get money, it could take years of going to court.
- I think probably fines and loss or suspending of there medical license.
- They should automatically have their license to practice medicine revoked for a serious charge. At least, that's how it works in Briton. If the conviction is for a less serious degree of malpractice, there are lower levels of punishment, such as only being allowed to practice under supervision, suspension, fine etc.
- It depends on whether you are talking about civil litigation or discipline imposed by the doctor's licensing body. These are two very different things. The former awards damages to the patient. The latter requires that the doctor do one or more of the following, depending on the severity of the offence: - pay fines - take courses - mandatory sabbatical - license revoked - patient charts reviewed - financial records reviewed - practise setting scrutinized for health and safety violations - etcetera
