north carolina vs south carolina. help me find a nice place?

I live in cleveland, ohio and im sick and tired of this weather! Who knew someone would leave an entire state because of the snow! I have lived here for 20years and im sick of this snow. Last year i stepped out side to shovel my driveway and the snow literally came up to my knees i started screaming and literally throwing a tantrum about how i hate my socks getting wet and how i was going to be late for work because my car was snowed in! so im considering moving to either south or north carolina very soon! i don't know anything about either so if you could give me some advice that would be great. I want something that is not too close to the water because i don't wanna deal with the hurricanes and not too far cuz i do wanna take my family to the beach. I don't know what 125,000 will get me but that's my limit for purchasing a home with at least 3bdrms. Also my hubby NEEDS to have a man cave so we would need a finished basement is that possible to find in either states? I want some city life i love peace and quiet but not too quiet so i need to be either in a city or very close. also im a dental hygienist so i would need to be close to hospital's and dental offices. we have a 6 yr old so a good school system or private schools would be nice. do either states have a problem with flooding if so what cities in particular dont? i know i asked for alot so if you dont know every answer thats fine. also please try to be thorough dont leave responses like "there both nice!" also if you know any neighboring states that meet my criteria use those instead to answer my questions Thank you soo much

  1. Check out Charlotte or Statesville, N.C.
  2. Hey, my parents felt the same way about the snow in Massachusetts. They moved to Lexington, SC. It's a suburb outside Columbia. Columbia has the University of SC so there is alot to do in the city. I have been to visit them and they have brand new gorgeous elementary school and high school right near their house (White Knoll high school, I dont remember the name of the elementary school). Anyways, the live in a nice 3 bedroom house, built 10 years ago, in an adorable little neighborhood. They paid 145, and some of their neighbors houses are for sale for about 130 right now. They don't have basements but they have what they call the FROG- finished room over garage which is a great spot for a man-town because it's seperate from the living room. It's about 2 and a half hours from the ocean, so they dont have any problem with storms or flooding. Hope this helps!
  3. I live in Raleigh, NC. It is GREAT here! We have many move from Ohio for the same reasons you mentioned. The weather here is GREAT! We do get cold in the winter, but it is short-lived. And, not much snow. I have lived here for almost 6 years and this year we got the most, twice with about 3-6 inches that was gone within two days!! The summer is hot and humid, but it doesn't usually stay around for too long. The spring and fall is perfect!! $125,000 is a little on the low end for most of this area, but it isn't unreasonable. For example, we are selling a house in South Raleigh for $157,900. The house has 3 bedrooms, 2 full baths and is on almost an acre of land. The house is in the country, but is only about 15 minutes to downtown Raleigh. It is kind of the best of both worlds. This house is right in the average price range for this style home. A home for $125,000 you would have to be outside of just about any major city in SC or NC. Of course, that will add time to your commute. Finding a home with a full basement is possible, but not likely in either state. In Raleigh we are about 1 1/2 hours from the ocean. Although hurricane strength winds can on occasion reach the interior we don't deal with the water like on the coast. We can go down to spend the day at the beach (great beaches!) and come home the same day. Again, the outskirts of Raleigh I think are the best!! Raleigh has many great restaurants, museums, theatre, plus much to do for free, especially in the warmer months. The Triangle (Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill) has some of the best medical facilities in the world!! So, if you are looking in those fields you shouldn't have a hard time finding a suitable job. The schools in Wake County (Raleigh area) were for many years the 3rd in the Country! I don't think they still carry that distinction, but they are still great. I have clients that move here from all over the world that can't say enough nice things about the schools here. And, these are VIPS in their companies!
