Are there still asylums in the U.S?
I'm being serious here, and if so, is there any proof, like a site I could go to, to see stuff?

- They call them state hospitals now.
- We still have "mental Hospitals" ... many of which are long term... I don't know that I'd call them "asylums" as I'm assuming you are using the negative connotation of the word. But many "long term mental Hospitals" were shut down by the government in the Reagan years (a bad thing in my opinion), though not all.
- What used to be called "asylums" are indeed, as one of your answerers said, are usually called psychiatric centers now. You can learn more about one of the largest psychiatric centers through an interview I conducted with the director of the museum for the Hudson River Psychiatric Center in Poughkeepsie, NY. It's actually quite an interesting interview. - I haven't seen any since I was young.
- There are long term psychiatric facilites in the US and not all of them are state run. Most major teaching hospitals have long term psychiatric hospitals for those who can't live in the greater world, but with the strides made in psychiatric medications and different treatment protocols there isn't a much of a need as there once was. For one reason a lot of people in psychiatric hospitals weren't there for reasons of mental health but because they were severely developmentally delayed and their families couldn't take care of them or didn't want to take care of them. So a lot of them really shouldn't have been there to begin with. People who need long term psychiatric treatment now are treated with a lot of new medications and new views on treatment protocols.
- Yeah they do.
- Yes, and the Nazis want more.
