Are goverment hospitals such as VA hospitals accredited by organisations such as JCAHO?

Recently a friend told me of major health care violations in the nursing staff at a local VA hospital. It is my understanding that federal employees are harder to terminate. Are government hospitals subject to the same standards as private hospitals?
