- Wow!! your asking a tough question, but I think I can help. If your in Chicago don't be afraid to talk to someone at the Chicago History Museum on Clark and North Ave. for help regarding time-line records of establishments and public places in Chicago in 1947. They are always willing to help. If you cant or don't want to go out there for whatever reason, try looking up www.encyclopedia.chicagohistory.org. I looked at it after reading your question and i found at least a dozen listed hospitals with pictures and information included. Good luck.
- The University of Illinois at Chicago traces its origins to several private health colleges founded during the late nineteenth century, including the Chicago College of Pharmacy, which opened in 1859, the College of Physicians and Surgeons (1882), and the Colombian College of Dentistry (1891). John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County. The hospital traces its origins to the Board of Commissioners' establishment of a "Poor House" in 1834 to provide free medical care to indigents. By 1847, the Poor House was unable to meet the demands of the population. At Kinzie and State Streets, the County rented Tippecanoe Hall, which became the original Cook County Hospital.
