Why do the VA hospitals take less care of our men and women who fought and died for our freedom?
its like they have the worst doctors, they send ppl home with the wrong meds, diagnose the wrong illness. I don't understand or service men and women should be treated with the most high health care there is...whats wrong with this picture.

- over work under paid and less funding
- The VA like all other federal programs hires the lowest bidder for the job and usually people that sell their services so cheaply are bottom of the barrel types.
- there's no money in it for the doctors, so you get the bottom %. the staff are overworked and underpaid, so you get the bottom %. and there is no money being allocated to these hospitals and facilities so that the automakers and banks can have their million dollar bonuses... patriotism is way down on the list of things to do...
- Welcome to Government run socialized medicine. Just wait until the Government runs all of our health care, it is a preview of our future under Obama. Oh that is unless you are in Congress or the President.
- What you are describing is the lack of attention from the Bush-Cheney (and other draft-dodging chickenshlt motherfuggers) years. Now that General Shinseki is in charge, and with the massive funding increase asked for by Obama and approved by Congress, look for the VA to improve. I have used the VA recently (2 weeks ago) and found the personnel to be attentive, compassionate, competent and caring. .
- Yes welcome to medicine dictated by the politicians. As the wind blows the politicians can cut funding and then scream about the poor care they caused. Dem or Rep / no politicians at work through bureaucrats doing their best to somehow save money by putting human life second to votes.
- The government should be paying the good folks who work there a better wage and provide better working conditions. But if they do that, taxes could rise and everyone would fume at that. You get what you pay for in practically everything in life. I understand and can respect your frustration but it's not like VA staff are just sitting there twiddling their thumbs and denigrating the sacrifices made by our fighting men and women. In fact, the VA has to basically take care of veterans when they're at their most vulnerable. It's an extremely tough and thankless job. VA hospital staff are doing their best (most of them are). The news media is ONLY going to report the bad stuff. They won't report the many, many success stories that happen every day at VA hospitals. If you don't believe me, visit one or better yet, volunteer at one and see how we can make things better.
- You are generalizing too much. The care that my parents receive at our local VA hospital is excellent- much better than care that they've received at any other hospital. EVERY hospital has a few bad doctors, and mistakes are made all of the time- not always at VA hosptials. I volunteer at my local VA hospital, and after I get my nursing degree, I would love to work there. The staff there are mostly caring and compassionate- with a few exceptions.
