why do ppl go to insane asylums for self harming when?

sexual masochists dont...i mean yes they arent the ones doing it but is there really that much of a difference?

1. Because the sexual predators deserve to be in a cell where they belong rotting their life away. At least with a hospital you would get some pills to ease your pain.
2. The motives are different. Masochists do so as a fetish - they have a specific aim, they tend to have a lot of controls in place and many limits (i.e. safewords, contracts, etc). In most cases, masochism does not involve serious harm - edgeplay is rare and tightly controlled. It is more common to be engaged in bondage play, humiliation or more minor forms of harms. Self harming is done in response to emotional stress and is maladaptive - it is associated with depression and anxiety (which masochism is not) and it does not lead to the cure of the root cause. As a side note, it is extremely rare to go to an asylum or hospital for self harming - unless severe.
3. Self Harming is done for attention purposes or they are sickk and need help. sexual masochists only harm themselves for the purpose of pleasure and who do they really tell? Self inflicting is usually noticable
4. People who self harm are put into a hospital (rarely an insane asylum) but maybe a psychiatric ward in a hospital to prevent them from furthering harming themselves, to learn why they cut, etc, how to love themselves, coping mechanisms and get the help that they need to function w/o harming themselves or others. They usually seek help or a parent or family member asks for help for them. They aren't forced to get treatment. Sexual masochists are probably treated as well...if they ask for treatment. They have to realize that they need professional help. They are usually adults whereas cutters are usually teens or young adults and parents try to help the child as soon as possible. No one is made to remain in a hospital if they refuse to be helped. It isn't a prison,
