Medical Malpractice

Is there a new law about medical bills not affecting your credit?

I'm interested in finding out if this is a federal law or an Oklahoma law. I appreciate your answers, I realize that medical bills go on your credit after they are in collections...that is obvious. I was told there was a very new law passed that even if they were turned over for collections, the new law would prevent them from going against your credit, and I was wanting to know if anyone knew for sure if it was nation wide or just in Oklahoma.

  1. I wouldn't know if there is an Oklahoma law about this, but I am pretty sure there is no federal law recently passed about this. With that said, medical bills typically will not get reported on your credit report until they get put into collections.
  2. I thought this was on the books nationwide for a couple of decades?
  3. Medical bills do not go on your credit, unless for some reason they go into collections, then they may go on your credit through the collection agency.
