Are VA Hospitals good evidence that our country can run a great health care system?

  1. They damned sure are I can use them but after having had them damn near kill me I chose not to!
  2. Exactly. I have been victimized by them.
  3. Mmmm... yup. I'm of the opinion that everyone should have the same the health care our veterans are privileged to. But that's socialist... so it'll never happen.
  4. Negative. I just spent a year with my being at dad at a VA hosp; the people are government employees, mostly unionized. You can imagine the bureaucratic red tape we had to go thru. Seems like every day it was a different doctor. Not good.
  5. Have you been to one? if you have, you know it's an insane idea.
  6. You clearly have never had to rely on the VA for health care. Being familiar with the VA it is a good example of why the gov't should NOT run health care.
  7. That depends on whether or not you're asking someone who's used it. To outsiders it's a shining example of excellence in care. To those who have been treated by the VA, not so much.
  8. No. I can see that you are not a veteran.
  9. if you think making medicine producers rich yep but not having a regular doctor is not you get to see a different intern each visit unless you go more then once in 3 months. and you are required to give insurance info if you have any
  10. Well, it's good evidence. Clearly, as a nation, we should respect our veterans and do everything we can for them, since they've risked thier lives to protect it and often paid terrible physical and psychological costs in doing so. So, you'd expect the VA to be decidedly /better/ than any broader, civilian equivalent of universal care. Afterall, it's harder to adminster a larger program, and harder to drum up enthusiastic support (and tax money) for bums than for our wounded patriots. I'd think that you could expect any public health care system run by the government to be at least a little worse than the VA. And, if you've ever talked to a Veteran about the VA, that should scare you.
  11. No ,they are a great example of why the government should not be running the health care system of the nation . If they cannot and will not give the proper care and treatment to our nations hero's , God help grandma . If we must have gov.healthcare ,let's have the same program the congress and senate have .
  12. Look what happened on the Republican's watch. Care Would Pay Hundreds of Dollars Annually in Increased Costs.................. On February 8, 2006, President Bush proposed a $31.5 billion budget for the Department of Veterans Affairs. Veterans groups have indicated that this budget falls over $1 billion short of meeting veterans’ healthcare needs. To make up a significant part of the shortfall, the Administration proposes to deny care to hundreds of thousands of veterans and to charge millions more a $250 annual enrollment fee while doubling copayments for prescription drug
