hospitals? whats the point?

well in the middle of the nite my waters went after having a week of slow labour. contractions have been irregular for over a week now and still are. i went to the hospital she checked me out and said that not all my waters have broken and that there is still enough for the baby. they wont bring on my contractions so there stronger and become regular so now ive gotta sit it out for them to do it themselves which could take another week maybe longer. whats the point in having hospitals if they dont help u the nurse could see i was in pain but apparently there not strong enough. well there strong enough for me. has anyone else had this? i have no idea what to do now i cant go anywhere because of these pains? what could i do to bring them on more strong. i cant take another week of this. its killin me. any ideas? i tried askin the nurse to give me something to make the contractions come regular and stronger and she just said no and i had to wait for my body to do it itself. this is like torture. i'm worried now that wen my baby is born im going to be so tired because the hospital are making me wait this out. and to the person on about hospital insurance....its free coz it NHS

  1. go to a different hospital
  2. Don't stress over it and you can go to the hospital and have them give you something to bring on your contractions; if they dont allow you to stay for that then make them; you can. If not, forget them and go to a different hospital!
  3. You're in the UK? We do things differently here. If you're ruptured, you're admitted to the unit, laboring or not. Infection rates rise dramatically after being ruptured for more than 18-24 hours, so docs here would either want to start antibiotics prophylactically or try to augment the labor with pitocin to facilitate a quicker delivery. Get up and get moving, rock your pelvis to help the baby move lower and put more pressure on that cervix, which will cause contractions to be more intense. Get on hands and knees, do squats, anything to keep changing position and helping to move that baby in your pelvis. Good luck to you!
  4. If your waters have broken at all, they should be concerned about the risk of infection. You shouldn't go more than 24 hours with a broken bag of waters before delivering unless you're under a doctor's care. Have you spoken to your own doctor? Maybe it's time for some pitocin to make the contractions more regular and productive.
  5. I definitely agree with the first poster. If you're able, I'd try to go to another hospital. Or go back to the first one, and just don't take no for answer.
  6. It probably has a lot to do with your insurance coverage. 99% of insurance companies would NOT allow you to sit in the hospital when there's no reason for you to be there. It costs up to $10,000/day for an in-patient hospital stay. Do you really think your insurance is going to cover any UNNECESSARY hospital stays?? I don't mean to be blunt.
  7. Once your water breaks(i don't know how it can only break one half) but you have the risk of infection. I would go to another hospital. This baby needs to come. To try and get the contractions moving, try walking up stairs as much as you can to use those muscles down there. Try squats as well, moving as much as you can bare. Good luck And Gongradulations.
