What should I do to become a pharmacy tech in a hospital(NYC)?

From what I researched you don't have to go to school because it's a waste of money. Is this true. So should I start at Walgreens. I would like to work at a hospital but I think I should start at a retail first since they require experience from a hospital and is it in demand(retail and hospital)?Any advice?

  1. It is a law that all pharmacy techs now have to be certified. Check into your local community college guidance counselors office for the necessary classes.
  2. The laws regulating pharm techs vary greatly by state. Some states only require that the tech be of legal working age and others require certification. Most states do require a high school diploma. Hospitals like to see experience and certification. Starting at Walgreens or similar place is a good start. Right now, the demand for techs has taken a nose dive. When the economy goes bad, tech hours are the first to be cut.
