Where is the best place to live in North Carolina? 10 points!!!?

Me and my family are thinking of moving up to North Carolina but we've never been. Its just me (15 y/o girl), my dad, and my three teen sisters. I've never seen snow in my life so I'd love to move somewhere that snows in the winter. Also we'd like to live somewhere that's... not too expensive nice shopping areas low crime and decent schools. Where in North Carolina should we move to? please help! (10 points to best answer!!) thanks :) oh p.s. maybe somewhere within 45 minutes driving distance from a VA hospital would be great.

  1. Boone north carolina nice town and schools
  2. The only city where you get reliable snowfall is Asheville, North Carolina. You also get snowfall in places like Boone, North Carolina but it's smaller than Asheville. Asheville is expensive, but very nice. Boone is a college town (Appalachian State University). Both are only a couple hours from Charlotte. There's a large VA Hospital in Asheville. The problem is that you want snow and, while you can get some all the way to the Outer Banks, the only area where you get it on a regular basis is in the western portion of the state. There are many, many small towns in this part of the state but you'll find not much shopping and generally underfunded schools along with poor roads that become impassible in the winter. Even a couple inches of snow can shut down the schools for a week in these areas.
  3. Asheville: progressive, fun, beautiful, calm.
  4. The Raleigh Durham area is nice and there is a lot to do. You might see snow once a year there. If you really want snow then move to Asheville or Boone. Not sure about the VA.
  5. I believe Duke University hospital is a VA hospital. there is also one in Salisbury, in addition to the one in Asheville. As previously stated the best place for snow in NC is in the mountains. Asheville is expensive, check out some of the other cities/towns in the area. Hendersonville, Boone, Blowing Rock, West Jefferson, Cullowee (sp?) Lake Lure, Lenoir, Morganton, Hickory, North Wilkesboro. good luck.
  6. Charlotte!
