SUPER low gpa, average ACT score, what are my chances of getting into Bowling Green State University in Ohio?

Hi, my name is Jared and I'm a senior in high school, I live in Ohio. My gpa is super super super low, as of right now it's like a 2.3 something because I haven't been very good on schoolwork(Although I mostly get A's and B's on tests and quizzes, including every one so far this year). I've only taken the ACT once, didn't finish it but scored a 21 and I'm taking it again next month. My legal guardian is my grandmother, just me and her, who took care of me because my mom is really sick but my grandmother is extremely sick with several health problems, so I look after her when I can and I work a job so I fall behind on schoolwork a lot. I try to make the work up and I do a lot of volunteering and leadership programs, like United Way and community stuff and I volunteer at a hospital and my school with Yearbook, etc. I really like the school Bowling Green, I've visited and they have a lot of fun art programs I would love to get into and the people are friendly. In school I've had electives in Art, Photography, Creative Writing and Sociology, all of which I pass with A's every quarter. I don't think it matters but the census considers me Pacific Islander, since I am Tongan-American. What do you guys think my chances are of getting into a college like Bowling Green State University or any college for that matter? Thanks much.

  1. Well, you are close. According to College Board, the minimum GPA for admittance at Bowling Green is 2.50 and the range for admittance for the ACT is 19 - 24. Try to get your GPA up a little more and you should be O.K.
  2. No Richard, your way off base sorry to say. A 2.3 wont get you into pretty much any school, not even a school known to take risks like Toledo. Your pretty much stuck at a cc, unless you can manage to get a really high act score- were talking a 30 or better. Second, if you plan on applying to BGSU, your probably already too late. February 1st is the deadline- so they wont wait for another round of ACT testing. A CC isnt a bad option for a year- save some money, get used to the tougher academics at a college, and ease into college life. If you could only manage a 2.3 in high school- college will be quite a shock for you. I hope I am wrong, and do wish you the best.
