Medical Malpractice

Which part of NYC is the best for someone like me?

I'm thinking of moving to NYC when I get my bachelor's degree. I am artistic, music oriented, like to hang out at bookstores, coffee shops and finally I would like to live in a safe environment. I will also need to be employed at a hospital as a registered nurse at any NYC hospital (hopefully safe and close by). I'm 21 years old now, will be 23 when I graduate, and I live in Washington DC right now.

  1. This is a hard question to answer because nothing is set in stone and there are too many variables. A "safe" environment for you might be considered unsafe for someone else, it all depends on your level of comfort and your own experiences. Someone from Detroit, for example, might feel safe in an area where someone originally from Dothan, Alabama would feel unsafe. It depends on you, really. A friend of mine from Brooklyn didn't feel safe visiting me in "Hudson Heights", which I consider a very safe area of Washington Heights, Manhattan. Another thing is you don't have any idea where you might be employed, there are many NYC hospitals and the location of your particular employer might also dictate in which area you live. Obviously, you wouldn't want to live in Rockaway if you were employed at NY Presbyterian. It'd take you close to 2 hours to get to work if you did. Another thing is NY rents are nowhere near affordable. This will hold true, no matter where you live in the 5 boroughs. You have to be willing to compromise in this city, you don't have artistic, trendy and young in a safe neighborhood. There's Williamsburg or Bushwick but even in those artsy neighborhoods crime is still all too common. It's hard to really answer this question without a lot more input on your part. How old are you? Where are you from? Stuff like that...
