What sort of treatments did Asylums use in Victorian/Edwardian times?

Every time I look it up, I get more info on 1920-1950 than Victorian times. I'm talking about more during 1880-1900. Can anyone help?

1. There were few treatments for mental illness. Many times, people were just locked away, and if they screamed, then their neighbors were screaming, too, so what was the difference?
