What is life like in Phoenix Arizona?

Hey Guys, I'm looking for people from the Phoenix, Arizona area to answer some questions I have about how they like living in Phoenix. I have a shot at a really good job offer in Phoenix, but I am kind of on the fence about it, because I live in Ohio now and it would involve quite a relocation. Here is what I want to know about specifically: 1. In general, is it safe in Phoenix? I realize that Phoenix is a huge city, and all big cities have a certain amount of crime, but how would you rate the crime? Is a person able to go about their daily business for the most part without feeling like they are going to be mugged by a gang? 2. I have heard from various sources that the nearby town of Mesa is VERY corrupt, with a police force that arrests random innocent people and charges them with bogus crimes. Is this true? 3. How much, on average, can a family of 3 expect to spend on groceries? Here in Ohio, we usually spend about $150 per week, and we have more than enough to eat for the week. 4. What is the health care system like? Does Phoenix have good hospitals that provide good quality care? This is my main complaint where I live now. We have to drive 45 minutes to find a hospital that will do their job. 5. What is the public assistance system like? Do you have to be an illegal immigrant with 5 kids by all different fathers to get any kind of help, or can the average person experiencing hard times get help? What about disability? One of the people that might be moving to Phoenix with me has MS and can't work because of a doctor's order. Would her benefits stay the same, increase, or decrease? 6. I looked around online and I think I found an apartment complex that looks nice, and I think if I do move to Phoenix, I want to live there. Does anybody know about this complex? It's called Fountains in the Green, and it's on 14th Street in Phoenix, in the 85014 Zip Code. Is this a nice place to live, or should I look around some more for a different place to live? Thank you in advance to everyone who answers these questions for me.

Public Comments

  1. l. Yes, you can live your life without feeling like you're going to be mugged or violated. Just don't live in the ghetto. Avoid south Phoenix and Maryvale. 2. Mesa? I think you're confusing stories you've heard about Arpaio and racial profiling (Mexicans). He's done a lot of good riding us of illegals also. 3. Groceries will run you about the same 4. We have excellent hospitals here. I'm not real familiar with the ones in Mesa but haven't heard any negative comments. 5. Can't answer that 6. Get a realtor. They'll help you become acquainted with the area and choose a safe desirable location.
  2. 1. Phoenix is a huge city, there is tons of crime. However, I feel safe going about my business without worrying about being mugged. That isn't to say I don't take safety precautions like walking with someone else, especially at night, or carrying pepper spray. There aren't nearly as many criminals as there are good honest people. 2. I've never heard of that, but I know Mexico has arrested people for bogus charges. 3. Groceries will be about the same, my mom feeds me and my two siblings, and she spends about 200 every two weeks. 4. Hospitals are great. I'm lucky enough to say I have never really needed medical attention, but the hospitals I have gone to to visit a friend have always been clean, and the staff is very helpful. My mom actually works at a hospital and I know her and the nurses and doctors that work on her floor all get along, and are very close, it's like a family. 5. I'm honestly not sure, I know that the illegals somehow always get tons of healthcare, and I know that if you ask an insurance agency they may be able to tell you. 6. 14th Street seems like the better part of town, I live in Maryvale, and anytime I hear the word Street after an address, I know it's not by me that much, so it is better.
  3. 1. Depends on where you are. Scottsdale is full of "snooty people" and Deer Valley is good. But Phoenix is bomb I love it some places are full of gangsters such as myself and others. But Its nice. 2. Idk, but from Bethany to Macdowel its like that 3. Idk 4. Yes, I like Thunderbird Hopital 5. WOW! Um.. no they care for you just the same. 6. Never heard of it but it sounds nice.
