  1. No, of course not. Lupus isn't infectious - it's your choice.
  2. well since you are still a minor, I will guess your parent have the rights. IF they dont take care of your illness they can be charge with neglecting you. On a separate note, i had a cousin that died at age 19 because she refused to take the treatment because she was tired of all the side of effects. She died very quickly. However, he aunt was diagnosed with the illness at age 14 and she is now 58 on meds.
  3. I am guessing you do not want to take Prednisone (steroids) right? I have had lupus for a year now and I was on a high dose of prednisone for a full year. I'm not going to lie, the side effects are horrible. I gained 50 lbs in 2 months. I couldn't sleep. My teeth were so sensitive. I have stretch marks all over my body now and I was moody all the time. But, once your doctor starts reducing your steroids (depending on your blood work and improvement) then the side effects start to ware down. There are some long term effects though...the stretch marks do not go away. it is taking me a long time to get the weight off as well, but every thing pretty much goes away. What treatment do you want to refuse? Cytoxan? Prednisone? The other meds are not bad...plaquenil...etc. Although, I advise you take the meds. The only reason I am in remission now is because I followed instructions and took those freakin 13-something pills every day even though I hated it.
  4. Listen to what Bella who commented above me said. She hit the nail on the head. If you don't treat your Lupus you are asking for trouble in the long run. Currently there is no cure for Lupus. There are new medications in clinical trials as we speak. It would be a shame if you weren't able to use these new medications because you refused to keep your Lupus in check causing irreversible damage to your body. Yes the medications suck, especially the prednisone, but guess what...there are a lot of people in the world who do not have access to medical care and have no choice. You have one...remain healthy until a cure can be found.
