  1. i think people can come out worse then when they went in, they can be in there for years and even there whole life depending how bad they are. x
  2. I think its usually like a week to a month. I was there for about a week before they discharged me. Thing is they really don't even want you there for too long. And define normal. I think most just stay as they are, but just now they are leaving with a plan that they are supposed to stick to. Unfortunately the plan doesn't always work out the way the doctors or patients plan
  3. It depends what's wrong with them and how serious their issue is
  4. an asylum isn't there to change your pattern of thought but more to stop wrong behavior so you dint pose a threat to society. your stay is determined with what your problem is. it's not a vacation resort. There are no pre determined time tables for stays.
  5. it's not called an asylum anymore, it's called a psychiatric hospital or ward. i've been in twice, the first time for 3 weeks, the second time for 2 months. it is different for everyone. i know some people who had been there for a year plus. there were different types of wards in both hospitals, for example there are elderly wards, child and adolescent wards, intensive care units for the more serious cases, acute wards, long stay wards. so because there are so many types of illnesses and people, their stay is not pre-determined, it could last any time really. for those who are criminally, mentally ill, obviously they can spend up to a lifetime inside. as for them returning to normal - i have. so yes, i do believe it is possible. it took me a few years, i've just turned 20 and have been stable almost a year. hope that helped :) oh also it can depend on whether you are sectioned or not. a section 2 keeps you for a month, a section 3 for 6 months. but if they see you doing well, they can remove the section. if you're informal you can leave anytime unless they decide they want you there.
  6. The average stay is only 3 days... insurance companies pressure the hospitals to do crisis intervention the release patients..... Normal is a relative word.... someone who is mentally ill with Bipolar, Schizophrenia or a personality will never be normal by societies standards... the goal of hospitalization is not normal.. it is functional.
