When do hospitals decide to keep you for labor in late pregnancy?

How many cm to you have to be dilated / effaced ? How do they know if your in actual labor? People are always getting sent home what requirements must be met in order for hospitals to keep you in late pregnancy?

  1. Its not a matter of how far dilated you are its a matter of how far spaced out your contractions are and if they're causing cervical changes - this is what we watch for - if your contracting but your cervix isn't changing you get sent home provided your water's not broke The closer the contractions the more likely cervical changes will occur
