What are my chances of getting into Northwestern University?

as well as Duke University, Boston University, and University of Chicago to study Biology/Pre-med I am about to start my senior year of high school this fall and have a 3.5 gpa unweighted and a 3.8 gpa weighted also i am a female and classify as a minority I got a 1700 on the SAT which i am aware i need to improve. i have taken SAT II's but did very poorly and for lack of time i plan on taking the ACT in september and am confident that i will get atleast a 29 Extra Curriculars: -Cross Country (freshman year) -Track and Field (freshman, sophmore, junior, senoir year) -Orchestra (freshman, sophmore, junior, senoir year) -Youth in Government (sophmore, junior, senoir year) -Parent Teacher and Student Organization (sophmore, junior, senoir year) -National Honor Society Community Service -Volunteer at St.Lukes Hospital (50 hrs) -Volunteer at School Store (freshman, sophmore, junior, senoir year) Class Courses - all advanced/accelerated (freshman, sophmore years) - 3 AP cources total (U.S. History, Eng. Lang., Chemistry) -4 years of Spanish (foreign language) Corses for Senior year -SUNY English 103 (i live in new york and my school offers this college credit) -Physics Advanced -AP Chemistry -Pre-Calculus -Politics in Government (graduation requirement) At the present moment i am making a list for schools i would like to visit and if you have any other college suggestions they are very welcomed!

  1. You have potential, though with your present stats, I don't think you have too much of a chance. #1 is to increase your SAT and ACT scores. (For a great guide on how to study for these, see http://www.nerld.com/blog/the-test-prep-series/). Your extra curriculars are strong. Do not give up on Northwestern and the others you mentioned if you really like these schools! It is VERY IMPORTANT that you write great essays, though, especially since your stats aren't especially strong! (see http://www.nerld.com/blog/2011/07/09/applying-to-college-step-4-the-application-and-essays/ for awesome tips on that). Have you considered Liberal Arts schools? Some give you just as good an education without being too picky.
