Good topic for a dissertation on medical law?
I'm studying law llb and am thinking about my dissertation for next year. I want to do something on medical law but not sure what aspect to focus on. So far assisted suicide and stem cell research are looking ok but both are too big an area to cover fully. Can you suggest a good area of research for a legal dissertation on medical law - whether that's a sub-topic from the above topics or something else. Thank you

- I do believe that women get a raw deal when it comes to medical law. I would want to look at the law on abortion because a friend of mine wanted to sue the doctor who gave her an operation to abort and tied the fallopian tubes to prevent further pregnancies. When she became pregnant for the sixth time she needed another abortion. I am not sure whether she sued but I doubt it. Doctors always close ranks and the general public is rarely able to afford to take a doctor to court. A similar case was with my husband's first wife, who died during a caesarian operation during her fourth pregnancy even though she had a medical history of small cuts needing stitches because her skin was delicate, lacking the normal seven layers of cells. Her case was unique but I feel the surgeon ought to have been sued for neglect of duty for the sake of the children left motherless. Sorry, that does not help. Take care. 'God bless. Gladgran
- How about the medicolegal standpoint of blood tranfusions and Jehovahs witnesses when the patient is unable to state their wishes (unconscious), and the family disagree as to their religious views (real case from my past)
