  1. I don't think you have to be dialated at all. They can give you ptocin to make you have contractions (and make you dialate). I do think you have to be dialated to have your water broke though.
  2. If you are in that much pain get yourself to the hospital NOW and get checked out.
  3. If this is your first, they won't induce until after 40 weeks. At 3 cm they can break your water and you can go into labor on your own. Things that bring on labor, I've heard black cohosh tea, sex, lots of walking, swimming and one i wouldn't suggest is castor oil.
  4. Sorry don't work like that if your dilated to 4 cm they will take you but under that no it's stupid i know but if your contracting for 5 mins for hour go in. Water breaks, leaking fluid go in.
  5. 4cm is usually the magic number but it all depends on effacement, dialtion, and contractions. You can request to be induced early but most likely you will be turned down because the Doctor wants to give the baby as much time to develop as possible. Especially since 38 weeks means a trip to the NICU since the babies lungs are not 100% developed yet. I know it hurts but imagine how much more it would hurt to see them take your baby away and hook them up to a ventalator to breath, or if God forbid a complication arose from lack of oxygen. Realize that your pain ensures your child has a higher success rate at survival and that is all anyone wants.
