Medical Malpractice

what will be the difference between VA Hospital and Universal Health Care?

I know there are some good VA Hospitals , but there are some very bad ones too, and they only take care of veterans, I can't imagine how it would be with everyone on that same type system. Now in the VA you get a pair of eyeglasses every two years, regardless if you break them, lose them , whatever, you have to wait 2 years to get another pair, most of the time it's 30 days before you can get an appointment, (unless going thru the E.R.) and you don't get to choose your doctor

  1. I think it would be worse! The care would be need based and you could not go elsewhere for help. You get into a wreck and rupture your spleen, "Well you were at fault, you are the back of the line!" Wanna go pay for your surgery - that would be a crime. Also, who's gonna pay for it? The VA is in the Military budget. The pie in the sky crap the libs are spouting is nonsense, it would bankrupt the country and our level of care would go from fist to worst in a few years.
  2. Oh, so it will be just like the HMO's that our employers are paying for now! You'd think people that are so dogmatic about the potential of the Free Market would be more excited about removing that burden from every employer, and freeing up entrepreneurs to leave their corporate positions to start up their own companies! Here's a chance to move a little further away from feudalism, and a lot closer to pure capitalism, and they balk. I just don't get it. Universal Healthcare might harm the Insurance companies (if done right), but it would be an amazing boon for EVERY other Industry in the country! Common sense shouldn't be considered Pie in the Sky. We can do better than we're doing right now.
  3. do you actually claim for eyeglasses? what is your medical deductible, do you get free glasses all the time with private insurance? most of the people i know just budget for their glasses and buy them. they are not that expensive unless you have some exotic or massive eye problem? i really don't know how long would be adequate to get new set when eyes deteriorate over time might need before 2 years. i am vet who has been to several different facitities in different states and have always found the service adequate, but strained and sometimes just not available at all, such as in Fort Worth, who are not even taking new patients. If the money was there to support it, the care would be better. the main issue for me is efficiency and the va system seems to be doing more with less and though it has its flaws, is a great benefit for those who need it. a non private system should be judged on efficiency and since profits are not the motivation, it can be a more nebulous statistic and biased and heavily influenced by the location where the care is given. and though choices are restricted, at least there are choices. better than nothing.
