Medical Malpractice

Considering moving to Appalachian area of Virginia or North Carolina?

Wife and I are retired but find cost of living on east coast of Virginia too expensive. Real estate prices and taxes have escalated 400% in 10 years. What is a lower cost area in foothills of Virginia or North Carolina with 1) Great scenerey, 2) Good access to interstate and international airport, 3) Good hospital and medical care (although we are in very good health), 4) Low crime statistics.

  1. North Carolina!!! Its awesome!!
  2. I'd say North Carolina. Boone, N.C. is a quiet area and has a lot of scenery (grandfather mountains etc.). I've visited Boone, N.C. on several occasions and it is a nice and peaceful getaway. I heard Asheville, N.C. is nice also. I've never been there but most people I've spoke with loves it. Asheville is more a tourist area because of Biltmore Estate. I am not sure the cost of living in these areas but I suggest you do more online research about the housing in these areas.
  3. I think that Chapel Hill NC will meet all 3 of your listed criteria. It's not the cheapest, but the cheapest will not meet all of your criteria. Take a look at the website I listed below to get a feel for the happenings in Chapel Hill. At any rate, NC is a great state, no matter where you end up. Best of luck in your move.
