Is it possible to access N.C. Psychiatic Hospital files from the forties online?

I want to research my deceased great uncle. He was put into a psychiatric hospital sometime in the forties in North Carolina and wanted to find information on him. Thanks and how do I do this, if i can?

1. i kind of doubt it..i know how our system works and if they can withheld dss records for 50 yrs..im sure they can withhold medical records for longer than that.you may have to go to court ..if you have a good reason to obtain the information.
