  1. you must be a teenager or just really young if you think a mamogram checks for the baby... those are for breast exams for women after the age of 40 sometiems earlier if breast cancer runs in the family!!! An ultrasound is the word you are looking for to see the baby. as for your area i wouldnt know i just thought i'd throw this in here to let you know the correct term.
  2. Definitions of mammogram on the Web: an x-ray of the breast used to detect and diagnose breast disease. Definitions of ultrasound on the Web: A picture of internal organs produced by high frequency sound waves viewed as an image on a monitor screen; used to monitor growth of follicles or a fetus and to retrieve eggs. Ultrasound can be performed abdominally or vaginally.
  3. i think you mean a sonogram. Mammograms are where they check your boobs for cancer. As far as your question I did one google search and came up with http://www.ncfreeclinics.org/mc/page.do?sitePageId=4814&orgId=ncfc which is a free clinic collective in NC. So do some searches and/or look in the yellow pages. You definitely ought to get pre-natal care, i.e. go to the doctor before you give birth-- it might save both of your lives. You have the right idea of finding a hospital to birth in before the time comes :) Good luck
  4. When you go back for the Ultrasound why don't you ask the pregnancy services people. Thats what they are for. They deal with that all the time so they are going to be able to help you out with any questions you might have concerning your pregnancy, your delivery, and they will probably even answer questions about what to do after the baby is born. If you can't get help from them, you should try calling each hospital in your area to see what their routine on deliveries for people without health insurance. Please make sure to take prenatal vitamins. It is going to be one of the most important things you can do for your baby(besides refraining from smoking or consuming alcohol or drugs). You want to look on the label and make sure that you get 100% of folic acid(aka Folate) in each vitamin. You can get it pretty much anywhere like Walmart, Target, Walgreens, etc. Also, you may try going to the library and seeing if they have any pregnancy and birth books you can read. The more you know about being pregnant and having the baby, the better off you will be. Good luck! I definitely agree with the person above me though, please get prenatal care at a doctor. The free clinic she described should give you exactly what you need.
